Thank you for sharing! Found the channel researching the GP510.
So comforting to watch realistic playing, motivates me to continue my studies.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found the video to be motivational!
Fantastic! Very quick and light fingers.
Thank you thank you!
Great!
Looks like GP suits perfectly for Mozart🙂
Thanks for watching! The different tones make it very versatile, and the key action is fast, which is great for Mozart.
Hey Mark, fantastic playing! What is your opinion on this piano? I'm considering buying one myself. :)
Hi Renato! Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the music. I really like the Casio GP-510. The action is quite good, as is the sound. I bought mine to help me practice for school auditions, which were in January. It really helped me improve my playing.
I bought the gp510 because the playing experience is closer to a grand than my previous digital (PX560), and I find it closer than an upright in some respects. As far as digital instruments, the GP510 has amazing action and definitely the best action of the hybrids I played. VS acoustic pianos, it rivals many uprights, so it would be a matter of preference the GP510 action vs an upright action.
My practice space was also a big concern when shopping for pianos. I live in an apartment, and my space is in a small spare bedroom.
Ultimately, the big advantages for this instrument are the size, volume, tones, and pedal. The GP510 isnt light, but you can move the unboxed, assembled instrument safely with two people. It takes up a little less space than an upright. The volume control let's you set the level at an appropriate level for practice, which will save your hearing. Headphones are there if you have to practice during quiet hours. The pedals perform the same functions as a grand piano, which is huge if you need a sostenuto pedal for your rep. Lastly, the piano tones are beautiful and represented nicely with the 6 speakers, giving a surround sound experience. It is truly the digital elements that make it better than an upright, in my opinion.
My advice is to go and play this instrument, some new and useful uprights, and some grands. Try top of the line instruments and see how the more affordable pianos compare. See if there are deals on the GP510 or any other pianos at your local shops.
There are many great pianos out there. The GP510 met my needs and exceeded my expectations for performance. I also feel that it is important to embrace new piano technology. The current hybrid pianos are awesome. I can't wait to see what the next generation is like.
@@markandrewpiano Wow, thank you so much for your reply. Mark! I'm a begginer piano player and have been using a Casio Privia PX S1000 for over a year now. I really like my current keyboard, but would love to have a more realistic experience, specially regarding the key action. It's always nice to have the opinion of more experienced players on these matters.
I know that Casio is a little look down upon when compared to more famous brands like Kawai or Yamaha, but unfortunately, where I live, there is a huge price gap between this Casio GP 510 and a comparable Kawai CA99, for exemple.
I'm gonna have a better look at this instrument here in Brazil. Thanks for your help. Already subscribed to your channel!
Thanks for subscribing! You may also want to check out Diego Dourado's channel. I think he is from Brazil. He has some videos showing the GP510 and a couple videos giving his opinion on that piano. Thanks again for watching. I hope you find a great instrument!
@@markandrewpiano if this was an ad, you'd be morbillion $ richer lol
You look like how I imagine Franz Liszt would be (partly may by due to the hair style), and your Casio Gp-510 looks like a real grand from that angle.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the kind words!
How does this piano compare to Kawai CA 99?
Great question!
I wasn't able to try a CA99 when I was shopping. I did try the CA79. I liked the tones on that instrument and the user interface. I preferred the Casio action and the speaker setup on the casio. The casio also has great piano samples.
Merriam Music (possibly called Merriam Pianos) has a video comparing both the CA99 and the GP510.
I think the Kawai has more of a resemblance to upright piano action, where the Casio is modeled on grand piano action. I may be wrong about that.
The action and tones are really a matter of preference. Both are great instruments. The casio felt better to me, and the Kawai felt underwhelming. Again, that's my preference and other players really prefer the Kawai instruments.
In the end, it was more a question of getting the Casio or a Yamaha upright acoustic. I opted for the digital piano because it offered so much more in addition to the action and tone.
Have you had the opportunity to play either of those instruments? What are your thoughts?
您好~請問這是現場收音?還是用USB收音呢?
Thanks for watching!
I hope I was able to translate your question correctly. I think you asked about how the audio was recorded. I will answer as best I can.
I recorded this using the Direct Out from the piano, which I did with two 1/4 inch instrument cables. That was recorded to my computer. I also used a microphone, which you can see in the video, to capture the sound from the speakers of the piano. I mixed these two signals in Ableton Live, adjusting the volume of each to achieve something that sounds realistic. The microphone for this was a large diaphragm condenser positioned about 15cm above head level, just behind my right shoulder. I think the polar pattern for the mic was set to omni, but cardioid or figure 8 would have produce great results as well.
This recording method was suggested by the Casio video team in one of their videos about the Casio GP-500: th-cam.com/video/N7sBld1hMy8/w-d-xo.html
It is explained in their reply to the first comment on that video. I modified the technique for my space.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
