I've really been enjoying just binge-watching this series. My troop is going to Summit Bechtel Reserve for the ATV high adventure trip this month and we're going to Philmont next summer. Can't wait!

Thanks for the great Philmont videos. Our troop recently got a spot for summer 2021 so these are really helpful. I also really like your pack list and am going to push our boys to weigh and detail out their gear as we push to go light weight. We do quarterly troop backpacking trips but many of the kids have packs that are too heavy. Cutting weight is going to be a big emphasis over the next 18 months. I have some questions. 1) I have the same solar charger. Did you find the 10K mAh battery sufficient paired with the solar charger? I will need to power my iPhone (in airplane mode) running GAIA and an inReach Mini. Debating between 10K and 20K mAh battery pack. 2) Are the Philmont staff sticklers on sharing tents for the adults? I'm looking at lighter tent options and 1 person vs. 2-3 person of course saves weight. (Plus I snore really loud and don't want to put anyone through that for 12 days...other than my poor wife)

There are many ways to lower your pack weight at all cost levels. Challenge them to be as light as possible and prepared at the same time. 60L-70L should be plenty if you plan properly.
We never had our ranger mention adults having to be together. We did anyway. But I talked to a bunch of other leaders from across the country and many had solo tents for at least some of their dads. Encourage earplugs as an option too. I had them and had no issues.
I had 2 banks. One was a 16k mAh in my camera kit and my 10k. Only once did I need anything more than my 10k. And I wasn't the most diligent the first 3 days about recharging the 10k. I was much better from then on. I probably could have gotten by with a 10k if weather was good, but I'd probably bring one 15-20k and be safe. I had a phone, headlamp. I ran GPS constantly on airplane mode until we arrived. It lasted all day and I'd set up the panel on breaks and on arrival. We had program a few times mid day. I'd charge during those too. Then recharge my phone before bed from the battery.

As our Scouts are going to be picking there itinerary soon, what were some of your favorite areas. (Perhaps, that is a subject for another video?)

There are so many amazing programing options. We loved summiting Baldy, rock climbing, black powder rifles, railroading and more... But I would love to see so many of the other options that I have heard great things about... I was looking at the routes today. Lots of great options... Let me know what you get.
