VO/Voice Actor here. Recently got a Neumann *hello neumann* TLM103 based off your review/comparison and it’s so amazing, really glad you made that video. Had to say thanks directly! Have some treasure 💰
You were absolutely right about Corman, he would distribute so many films that he would consider the price to ship them. Most indie distributors back then would make as many prints as they could afford and tour them across the country, often starting on the coasts and meeting in the middle of the US.
Warning: the following was an auto reply from TH-cam that was an option...I just had to click it and see what the whole comment is. THIS IS CRAZY! "I'm just trying to figure out how this whole TH-cam thing works. I'm not sure how much help I am, but thanks for watching!"
Really cool to hear the talk about the cost savings of digital film distribution. Brought me back to my first job from 2002-2005 as an usher, then a projectionist at a 5-screen movie theater. Digital was just starting to hit the market if I remember correctly, but our little theater was years away from affording the equipment, so we were 100% 35mm film. I built/tore down a lot of the prints, and always remember the excitement when the print for a big release would get dropped off by DHL or UPS. Those metal cannisters they shipped in were heavy when fully loaded, and I believe you could fit either 3 or 4 reels in one cannister. So if you could get a film below 84 minutes, I think it was possible to fit it in one cannister instead of two and cut your shipping costs in half. I really enjoyed projectionist work, and the only thing that bums me out about the digital era is that working with film was so much fun. Hopefully art houses and hobbyists can keep film projection alive as a niche thing for many generations.
Nice! I used to own one of those Shure ribbons. I used it in the studio to record the Leslie speaker on our Hammond B3. Bought it NOS, in box and bag, from an electronics store that was going out of business in 1992. Paid $65 for it! It has an alnico magnet that, if it were recharged, might get you an extra 3dB of sensitivity.
Bought an SM33 for my college radio station in the 70s. I wish it was still in Shure's line. I think the 33/330 captured lightning in a bottle. Superbly smooth, and tight-patterned. Likely closest comparison would have to be the AEA KU5A.
Lmao the NOS could be perfect as a 2nd optional channel for like rage gaming youtubers that hit their desk a lot. Would be awesome to get that rage across 😂
I like that you test your mics for every use case, sometimes you can find a mic that excels in a weird way that it wasn't intended. I used to use a CAD drum mic as a podcast mic for like 2 or 3 years, the CAD E60, I paid like 30 bucks for it lol!
Wow. JZ sent a blast recently, offering the Amethyst for something like $479. Been looking at it for a while, and thought, well, now I'll pull the trigger. Right after that, I read the detailed message you just read here regarding QC problems. Trigger not pulled, safety back on. Oh, JZ...
Looks like a newer version of the C1. Mic parts makes a great mod for that. Heil PR40 wasn't a fav of mine either. I put together a bunch of mics I don't use anymore and that was on the cut list. The handi mic though was pretty cool. Ham mics dont tend to have exaggerated top end, usually bandwidth limited. Some of heils mics have a studio version and a HAM version. The shure mic is on my list of wants for the future.
As soon as you started i was ooo whats that mic definitely a ribbon. Wow im going to look out for a 330 now it sounds amazing on voice i love ribbons on talking dialogue
What annoys you more: content creators holding lapel microphones (that are designed to be clipped onto your lapel) in their hands, or content creators holding broadcast/studio microphones (that are designed to be mounted and stationary, e.g. the Shure SM7B) in their hands? (I really wish they would splurge on live stage microphones, which are designed to be easily held and handled, so I could get some peace at night.)
Does your B-camera have a stuck red pixel? I’m seeing a red dot on your right shoulder when you switch to it and assume it’s not a government agency’s snipers.
So, lI recently noticed that the Alibaba brand Baifei Li make 2 identical microphones as the JZ mic brands. The Baifei Li V8 and V9 are identical to the JZ Amethyst and BH-1. I was wondering who made the styles 1st, and if they sound the same. What do you say? A good old-fashioned shootout between the 2 lines? I don't believe anyone else knows about the V8 and V9.
I'm subbed to both the channels, love em both. Any mic content is good content. Also about JZMics, after sending those mics back, I pulled the trigger on a Gefell M930, same price range too, and I'm sure the Gefell is going to crush the JZ brand. Only reason I got the JZ mic was specifically because they had a 40% off sale and I fell for it. The whole.."man I'm getting a $1200 mic for $700".
Court Case Pronto!!!! 😂 jk not worth it man. Those soulless channels will come and go, while your channel has and will continue to withstand the test of time.
BEWARE: You, like I, may receive emails or texts appearing to be from this channel or this podcast host saying you have one a very expensive microphone. It will most likely be a hoax and, like me, get ripped off or your phone hacked and lose $100's of dollars without any chance of getting your money back. I even informed this host that his channel was used to rip me off. He did and said NOTHING. He didn't even put up a warning on his channel to be aware so the rest of you did not get ripped off. He simply appeared not to care.
I'm very sorry to hear that you got scammed by those absolute scumbag criminals, I wish that was not the case. I have not seen any telegram scammers on this channel, I only recall seeing them on my primary channel at the end of 2022 and for a few months into 2023. I disagree with your statement that I didn't put up any warning on my channel to stop people from getting ripped off. I have compiled all the warnings I posted warning people about this scam during the time frame that this was occurring, see below links. Also, I understand completely how angry you are about this, and it is very unfortunate this happened to you. I'm very sorry you've had to go through this. Thank you so much Derek. It's awesome to hear you found a mic that is helping you on that career path! Happy recording!

Film tours is such a wild concept! I love it!

Thanks for being you, Bandrew : )

My thoughts on the Reaper thing: if we've ruled out a hardware issue, a fresh Windows install fixes most problems of this sort.

love this vid. Earthworks and the Shure sm330 for me!

ok... second angle cam is now God-cam ... every time you switch to that angle, a coir of angels will go "AAaaaahhhhh"... 18:50
I would pray to the god cam, but that would probably be too close to blasphemy, so I'll just pray to god directly instead. LOL.

The MP C1 mod indeed liberates that mic, one of the best $30-40 I've ever spent
@ absolutely one of the best mods that brings this mic way above its price class. Not a difficult mod either. (Did a vid on it not that long ago)
The 330 and earthworks sounded great. The SP c1 was kind of harsh. It probably sounds good on acoustic guitar.
As soon as you started i was ooo whats that mic definitely a ribbon. Wow im going to look out for a 330 now it sounds amazing on voice i love ribbons on talking dialogue

5:23 Why are you talking into an earthquake detector?
Does your B-camera have a stuck red pixel? I’m seeing a red dot on your right shoulder when you switch to it and assume it’s not a government agency’s snipers.
Heil mics are good blender mics on guitar cabs and acoustic. Expensive compared to some others.
