I was sure it was not Portugal, but I can see how you thought that, cause I was doubting myself at a point. Tips for distinguishing Canada from the U.S.: - U.S. usually has writing on their traffic signs, Canada almost never does. For example U.S. yield signs literally say "Yield" and railway crossings say "Rail Road Crossing", whereas in Canada both are blank because the meaning is already obvious from the ▽ or X shape. Similarly, the U.S. often has text on warning signs (yellow diamond), but Canada always uses symbols instead. If there is text, it will be on a rectangular tab below the diamond sign. - Concrete paving is extremely rare on residential streets in Canada. For that reason it is extremely unlikely that the one at 18:58 could have been in Canada. - Canada uses standard English spelling, not U.S. spelling. For example, at 7:55 it would be "Centre", not "Center". That said, you do occasionally find American spellings in Canada on commercial signs, so you need to be careful. But, if you see an American spelling on an official building like a school, community "center", etc, you know for sure it's the U.S. And if you see standard spelling anywhere you know for sure you are in Canada. - It can also be handy to learn which states or provinces have front license plates and which don't, because states and provinces across the border from each other often have the opposite rules. For example, all of the States in the plains require a front license plate, but only 1 out of 3 Provinces in the plains does. So at 1:42, given that you knew you were in the plains, you had to be in Canada. - Speed limit signs in Canada say "Maximum" whereas the ones in the U.S. say "Speed Limit". (Because "maximum" is spelt the same in both English and French, but "speed limit" isn't). The Canadian ones are also in km/h (number ending in "0") while the American ones are in mph (number ending in "0" or "5"), but I'm sure all the viewers here already knew that.
Dude, don't place yourself in front of the compass! How are we gonna guess along without a compass!!?? How about the Tom lad in the upper left corner!?

Really interesting series. I have now started trying these myself, although I am a total newb compared to you. I do have one tip for you though, which you don't appear to have picked up on (I could be wrong though): The US uses mph and Canada uses km/h for speed signs. Hello! For future reference in rounds like the one at 20:00 where you say you can't use the sun due to the hour of the day, you can always look at the orientation of architectural features in houses. I can't really say for sure if it would have been useful here because your face is on top of the compass, but usually windowed fronts of houses are facing towards the sun, either south or north depending on the hemisphere, and windowless facades like garage doors and blind walls from bathrooms and other service/private features of the house face away from the equator. Again, sometimes architects are bad architects and this won't be useful, but if you pay attention you'll notice that all the garages in the neighborhood faced the same direction, if this direction was north you could have assumed you were on the northern hemisphere, therefore resolving the issue of an unusable sun. (let us see the compass next time lol) Edit: Went ahead and checked it, turns out it's just a case of bad capitalist architects that copy and paste the same model of house 300 times on a neighborhood regardless of things like the orientation or the individual human needs each different family has. oops

I recently bought an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset and went on the VR google earth app, and holy shit is it amazing. You can fly over places and look down on them and everything's 3D, or you can go into street-view and walk around the place as if you're there yourself. It's so cool. So far I've explored places I've already visited and it's been so cool thinking back on all the great memories. I'd definitely recommend you try it out yourself sometime!
You will get signs in both Norwegian and Sami in parts of Northern Norway, but this could not have been Norway, because of the lines on the road. We don't have the full/undotted lines at the side of the road unless there's also some kind of line in the middle. If there's no middle line, the lines on the side (if there are any) will be dotted in Norway.
If you're in a suburban area like that one it St Luis and you're unsure as to whether its Australia or not, remember that Australian bins are dark green with red or yellow lids. If you see those, you're absolutely in Australia
fwiw, those "Novgorod" pipes you were musing about were pretty common overall in the sovjet union, seen loads of them as a child in the GDR, too, for example (albeit the beefy version, which supports a whole district)
To differentiate between Canada in the U.S., in most suburban areas, the U.S. has mailboxes at the ends of the driveways while afaik Canada Post Postboxes all clustered together on like the main street in the neighbourhood or seomthing.
12:40 not sure if other countries in Central America or South America do this but in Mexico many many "mom and pop" shops are named by a person's first name and that name will be painted to stand out. When I see that I instantly think of mexico.
18:50 as far as I know the only place area in Mexico where people eat burritos is in Northern Mexico. I didn't think about it until after your guess but I was thinking north-central because of the climate.
If you're within plus/minus 23.5 degrees from the equator you will have days in which the sun is in the opposite direction than it should be. The closer you are to the equator the more such days you'll have, the more chances there are that this is captured in google maps. So basically for tropical regions the "Sun's in the north/south we're in the southern/northern hemisphere" is to be interpreted only statistically.
Sun rule is undeniable only when outside the tropics (further nort than the tropic of cacer or below the one of capricorn) because between them it depends on the season. (Eg you could be just above the equator and still have the sun to the north in summer) and vice versa
The livestream channel "Rocket Beans TV" started to do Geoguessr content on a regular basis. I think many people watching would enjoy seeing you crush them and/or teach them a few things before they get overconfident ;)
The Mexico and US ones were so easy. From the stop sign and double lines and dollar general you could tell it was the US. And in Mexico from the water tanks above the houses that are Rotoplast, the Corona and of course the Pemex. At 18:00 it’s a dead five away it’s Mexico because of the “PAN” on the side of building which is one of the political parties. The popular ones are PRI, PAN, and, PRD

That West Virginia one at 8:21 is interestingly within the ingame map of Fallout 76, never actually seen it on a real map until now but I immediately recognised it (only on the overhead map). Kind of surprised how accurate the ingame map is.
20:35 No wonder I immediately knew what country that was in. I live in the greater St.Louis area and my grandparents live in a neighborhood that looks identical to that.
If you can't remember which side of the road a country drives on you can check by zooming in close enough on the map that you can see the arrows on either side of a motorway

If there's no middle line, the lines on the side (if there are any) will be dotted in Norway.
imagine if this guy was a geography teacher
Really laughed out loud at “that’s 5 guys”...
it's the little things hahahaaha
Mate you’re actually so funny haha only you could make geoguessr consistently entertaining
12:14 Tom! you missed the dog on the roof just to the left of those red metal container thingys hahaha!
21:08: The yellow background of the road sign is typical for Finland too.
As someone with family in Grafton I can confirm that was a good guess, the whole town looks like that
Tip for excluding Portugal - existence of bins. Portugal has communal bins and basically nobody has those medium sized trash bins at home.
Tom that italian round looked like the sea, but it was actually a ground fog/mist that looked like a sea in the valley
18:50 as far as I know the only place area in Mexico where people eat burritos is in Northern Mexico. I didn't think about it until after your guess but I was thinking north-central because of the climate.
In the Thailand vs Philippines guess, you can see the crown (?) symbol that’s on the highway signs in Thailand
Don't apologize for taking long, the nail biters are the best :)
I just read Street View will cover streets in Guernsey and Belarus. good news
Not good news for geoguessr players as it’s another country to recognize. They already had to deal with Austria recently.
Hi Tom! Love your videos. Just incase it isn’t commented yet, we drive on the right here in the Philippines much like the US. Thailand drives on the left. 😁
You look so much like Bernardo Silva 😂 love the content mate! 🇬🇧
The cross aswell as the name Risvan was very obvious it was Sri Lanka! They have a pretty high Christian population
also indonesia is an islamic nation and would probably not have a building with a cross on it
GeoGuesser : looks at orange buildings
Also GeoGuesser : This could be Portugal
You mean GeoWizard
That West Virginia one at 8:21 is interestingly within the ingame map of Fallout 76, never actually seen it on a real map until now but I immediately recognised it (only on the overhead map). Kind of surprised how accurate the ingame map is.
Love you buddy, get that 20!
Love your vids! keep killin it
21:00 yep. The "tie" is finnish, it means road
20:35 No wonder I immediately knew what country that was in. I live in the greater St.Louis area and my grandparents live in a neighborhood that looks identical to that.
19:05
Him: There hasn't been an insane guess
Island guess: Am i a fucking joke to you?
16:57 you can see thai squiggles on the white sign you are zooming on :)
« กม. » which means « KM » (kilometer)
Everyone gangsta till he gets Vatican City
S P A M M E R
If you can't remember which side of the road a country drives on you can check by zooming in close enough on the map that you can see the arrows on either side of a motorway
I'm from Nizhniy Novgorod, and I can tell you that yes you do get those pipes, however you also get them in many other places in Russia. Anyway I live in the UK now and I can tell if it's Russia or the UK as soon as I see it on the game
