Poricha Rasam or Saathamudhu is a dal soup without tamarind generally made for Dwadasi. A very mild, delicious Rasam variety just with the tanginess of tomato along with freshly ground spices.
When you’re bored of concocting the usual tomato rasam or any other rasam using tamarind.. try this simple and delicious rasam that is made without the use of tamarind and gets its sourness only from the rich flavor of tomatoes and freshly made rasam powder.
Ingredients:
2 Tomatoes, roughly chopped
1 Green Chili, slit
Salt
4 Cups Water (or as required)
¾ tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
For grinding:
1 tbsp Toor Dal (Pigeon pea)
1/4 cup Grated Coconut
1/2 dried Red chillies
1/2 tsp Peppercorns
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
For tempering:
1 tsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
Curry Leaves
