I learned how to cope with death and process grief from John. Specifically from his album The Empyrean, that album is like a religious experience for me. It helped me so much after I lost my dad. It's amazing how helpful music can be in your darkest times. I'm forever grateful to John for sharing his beautiful soul with us.
In 1989 I realized that JF was a new guitar god. Happy to see just how many people have come to realize that as well. In the States #2 Groove is almost always called "Chicken Scratching" very very James Brown.
Such an awesome video! Please do videos about John's playing on specific songs like Turn it again or Dosed. It will be amazing to see you analyze those songs c:
Hon Davy. I like your style. Given I have a gretsch streamliner in that colour, a fender jazz bass, a jazzmaster kit and a strat, it's a lot of good choices.
Amazing things to learn without a doubt. I think the song Snow possesses a solo, isn´t? the very last part, very minimalistic, but still a solo, don´t you think?. Great content btw. Keep it up.
Easy point of contention, the word, "ALWAYS" One thing about JOhn, he doesn't ALWAYS do anything. If he ALWAYS does one thing, it's ALWAYS doing things differently and never repeating (including NOT using the same fingers on the same chords on the same songs, much less solos or single note funk lines)
Rules to JF: 1.) Be a prodigy by age 15... 2.)IT'S NOT A CLEAN TONE. 3.) ALWAYS play differently than before. That'll get ya started for the next 40 years.
DAVY, What is it called when Frusciante is doing in the song SNOW its using 3 note triads but adding trills notes its a weird technique. Any other songs he does this technique in other songs?
Hey man! So he used triads a lot. Snow is probably the most difficult song to play. Have a look at ‘under the bridge’. I know it’s a slower easier song but it’s brilliant for learning! 😊
@@davyholden under the bridge is more of how Hendrix used chords with trill notes. Frusciante uses 3 note triads adds trill notes it's very different than how Hendrix does it.
So when he actually strums all strings despite only playing one single chord like in “if you have to ask” chorus, how would I play the 8. 10. 10/13 slide 8/12 slide Whilst strumming all chords, have no clue what do with the other fingers, obviously thumb covers the top two, but I have no idea how to continue to play these notes whilst strumming, eg when trying to do 10/13, I always manage to play the open D chord if I try strumming all notes Any help would be appreciated!
I think the best way I found out to play those notes would be thumb over the top 3 then using my middle finger to play these chords whilst muting the bottom chords? What do you do? Thanks again
Mate, actually, i think he pulls the strings like pinching, you know, try to watch the Funky monks documentary, maybe you can figure out. For me the best way to get this part the same as the original song is pull very hard the strings with the thumb and the index finger, string by string
I like the bridge on the strats and teles I’ve had because it sounds fat. I thought it was because I didn’t understand electric guitar. Everyone else seems to prefer the “lead” pickup. I don’t .
Takes a lot of getting used to. I have very small hands so it took me a while to get used to - Best thing you can do is get a guitar with a skinny neck!

Chicken picking actually. The guitar player of James Brown’s band was the one that made it popular.
John is the MAN!!😁
the slane castle solo! you could feel which song will be next. i will never forget it and it just prepared the song. JF Genius
I’ll never forget it either man. That gig really was something special that will never be recreated 😁

Just wondering what is the neck radius of your strat?
To be honest, im not sure! its a standard mexican road worn series strat if thats any help!
The thumb on the lower E string is a Hendrix thing.
100%!
Sick relic guitar

Young Paul Mccartney playing Frusciante!

I feel like the "thumb over" technique, is for the genetically gifted
And trust and believe you'll progress just fine without it. If like me u don't have much choice...

It’s not a custom shop. It was done by Dave Simpson. And I bought it from him 😊
