Very helpful video. I am just getting back into the hobby, and I am surprised to see how may folks are uncoupling their cars by hand. With all the money they spend on DCC, I am surprised to see that.
I do like your videos ..( very helpful ) one other thing i wanted to ask is when you hook up your turnouts with the toggle where is that video again cause i will be doing it just as you did ...
Mike, I have the regular permanent magnets under my track in several places and plan to remove them, because they just don't work. Cars are either uncoupling when I don't want them to, but more often they will not uncouple when I want them to. I am using Atlas flextrack for N scale, code 80. My question is this, are these electric magnets more dependable than the permanent magnets? Stronger maybe? Thanks for the video and the help, Russell
All I did was put the table up on the appropriate thickness of styrene to match the height of the Unitrack then removed the correct amount of the Unitrack roadbed. Setting the table will require you to read the instructions with the table. Thanks , Mike
hello mike brian here again ..I have a question again about the kato track ..is the #6 turnouts ok to run with dcc and if so do i have to block off anything casue they are power routing ? I dont use any of them as a crossover cause i use the doubles for that..my other question is again about reverse sections and where i have to put the gaps and feeders to the ar1 I am going to make a short video of the area on my layout that has the reverse section and then you can see it to help me ..
Why can't you just put the whole unit under the Unitrack roadbed? It looks as if it would fit. Is the distance between the magnet and the couplers too great if the magnet is underneath?
Very useful video. I would like to use it on Atlas flextrack. I have noticed the MicroTrains cars work more reliably than other brands. Might have to start converting those cars to Micro Trains couplers as well.'Thnaks Scot
Great demonstration. Anybody using these in operating sessions on actual layouts? Curious about how they work long term on layout.. Any hope Kato will ever sell something simliar RTR?
hello mike i was wondering if you could tell me what the measurments are for a double track bents for a trestle i am lookin for how wide it should be any help would be gr8 thanks
Hello Mike. Do you try it with Fleischmann Profi couplers or "rapido" ones (wich are installed on european material) ? I think it should work, with the advantage that this uncoupler is more discret than the fleischmann / Roco one (with its big motor upside the table) !
Mike-I am starting to make my uncouplers, I cut the hole as planned in the 4" kato track, but the uncoupler does not fit between. Is there a difference between the HO & HOn3 uncoupler? Rick
hey mike I have another question that pertains to the turntable ..can you explain how you installed the stall tracks and then programed them so the bridge would go to each one ..?? I am geting ready to put mine in and i am having some trouble cause i dont want to run into any problems then have to do it all over again and when the bridge is at the sensor can you have a stall track there ...thanks for the help
Great video! The couplers on the box cars what brand are they? Or what type couplers do you think would work best with the electric uncoupler? Looks like the ones on the box cars seem to work pretty good! Are they Kadee couplers? 👍
Thanks for the video! I viewed it about two years ago when I first started my layout. At that time, I went with the Kato permanent magnet section. Now, with a little experience under my belt, I have some questions. What are the advantages of using this method? You alluded that it is good on a main line. Why? And are there any other reasons? Thanks!
hey mike how much for the uncoupler I would like 3 if the price is good my zip is 54302 greenbay wis and can u install this into a piece of atlas track
@@davestrains6816 The success comes with properly adjusting all the Micro-Trains couplers and Kato couplers and others simply do not work with them. Thanks , Mike
Hello mike hey i made 2 of these watching your video thanks , did you get the picture of my layout so u can help me with where to make my cuts in the reverse sections of my layout i sent it when i was on your site ...
hey mike brian here i sent you those pics of the layout plan for the reverse section ...one other ? i have is setting up the dcc turntable ..i didnt get the sheet that shows how to install it into the board is the place where the sensor is the track that is dead and you cant have any track there ...ok well going to a train show sunday hoping to find a bargin talk to you soon brian
That's pretty ingenious Mike. The screw length wouldn't even be a problem for anyone using foam as a base. just press the track into place.
Very helpful video.

The concrete double track base is 2 5/16ths"

Excellent work Mike
+Skip Sterger Thanks Skip , They work well.

Very cool! I'll have to keep those in mind for my layout.

too great if the magnet is underneath?
It would not uncouple , that far away.

are these readily avalable i was at my hobby shop and they did have them
kato unitrack with ties cut away would also work well for inspection pits, and ash pits
is this the measurement for a double track wood trestle bridge I need the measurement at the top and bottom of what a bent would be

That is a good idea Scot , most of us do that.

Thanks Mike!
Excuse me mrfifer,
Can this be adapted for other tracks??
Like Atlas non balasted or Peco?

Now, with a little experience under my belt, I have some questions. What are the advantages of using this method? You alluded that it is good on a main line. Why? And are there any other reasons? The advantage is it only works when needed and eliminates unwanted uncouplings, obvious for main lines.
Thanks , Mike
Bria , am working as fast as I can , yes I got it and will have a look.

How much is it ?
Thx shawn
Hey, Mike!
Your videos have come a LONG way since this one came out. Is this still the best way to get electromagnetic uncouplers on Unitrack?
Thanks!
It is the only way .
Thanks , Mike
Thanks Mike I answered my question.
nice video mike
Is this setup that you use on your layout? If so do you sell this item? Thanks
I do not use them but we do sell the Kadee HOn3 electro magnet
@@N-Scale Ok thank you. I have the KATO uncoupler but I do not have much success with them. Thanks again.

Nice tutorial! what code is that rail?
Kato rail is code 80.
Thanks , Mike
Thanks , Mike
can you put that under the ties?
+t starr Nope , it would be too far away to be effective.
Thanks , Mike
ok thanks far to ugly to look at, as it is.
+t starr It is the only real Reliable setup for electro uncoupling though.
Thanks , Mike
