    The fact it won’t couple over the magnet is what it’s meant to do - it’s a delayed facility. You uncouple over the magnet, push the uncoupled car to where you want it and when you draw forward the coupler centres again ready to couple up.
    It’s not a fault it’s what it’s meant to do

    First: I like the quality of your video, you got a sub from me.
    Two, what you're talking about when you demonstrate the couplers not coupling over the magnet is actually a nice thing for yard operations. Its called a coupler push, and allows you to move freight or cars around where you want them without ever having to touch your trains, like pushing a hopper car to a coal station or leaving some box cars by a loading dock at a plant or factory.
    Loved the vid, keep them coming!

      Thanks for that clarification! I recently learned this as well and you are right, it is a great feature!

    That's exactly how it's supposed to work. Thanks for sharing.

    No adjustments, etc. needed. The 20-032 is working as it is intended, and it looks like you have essentially figured-out the uncoupling and re-coupling procedures. Uncoupling is simple. Re-coupling must be down off the 20-032, so yes push the car past the 20-032 and it will couple, then when going forward again over the 20-032 maintain forward motion so there is some tension on the couplings which will be more force than the magnet creates trying to separate the couplings. In other words: slow or stop (as you did) to uncouple, maintain some speed over the 20-032 to keep it from uncoupling.

    Thank you i'm about to convert all couplers to micro trains and love Kato. Wonderful video

    I believe after it is uncoupled and you back up to it and its uncoupled this gives you the usage of pushing the uncoupled car back to desired spot ( loading dock) without it coupling back up, other wise you would have to have uncoupler track at the location

      Yes, I have discovered this from continued use and comments from others. Thanks for helping me learn!

      That's called delayed uncoupling. It's doing what it's supposed to do.

    Think about it. Youve just successfuly uncoupled a car. Now you need it to shunted to the correct siding in your switching yard. What better way than to delay recoupling?
    It's not a bug, it's a feature!
    Great, high-quality video, by the way. I'm subbed!

    The magnet causes the little metal arms under the coupler to separate. Obviously, if you try to re-couple over the magnet, the couplers will stay open. It's how the system is designed to work and is working properly. I'm confused by your confusion over proper working conditions. I hope you have this figured out by now. Good luck.

    I know this is an old post and you have probably figured it out already, but that is by design Kadee calls it delayed action, it allows you to push cars where you need them.

    I haven't tried the Kato uncoupling magnets, I've only used ones that I've installed into Flextrack. The issue I have is that if I'm pulling a bunch of cars at slow speed there will sometimes be slack in the coupler and when that happens, the cars uncouple as they go over the magnet. In my case, the cars are going downhill a bit and I'm going slow so they'll get a small tug from the engine and that'll cause them to move forward and create that slack. Also, if you have a jerky engine it'll do the same thing. I'm thinking of getting the Kato setup to see if it works any better.

    The fact the the car don't recouple on the magnet is an intended feature of the design.

    Great example of how it works! It's called an Operation, real trains can't be in a hurry to do this function either. Speed to scale orientation. It matters

    Great video! I bought three of these units that I use on my n scale layout and for me 90+% of the time they don't work. I love KATO track but i just manually uncouple things now.

    It could be a coupler height issue, from car to car. I’ve noticed that is an issue. I have to stick to certain brands or adjust couplers.

    I have just bought my first set of Kato Unitrack after changing from HO. Your video was a great help because I was wondering how I would be able to carry out what we in the UK call "shunting" and our American cousins call "switching".
    Your vid has answered my question in full. Thanks very much and I have just subbed.
    Can I ask if you use Kato couplings and how you find them?
    I'm a little confused by the different types. I understand Microtrains is the new name for the Kadee couplers.- I had some of them on my HO US wagons and locos.
    I just want the best type for "switching" operations and will be using a lot of US outline locos and stock on the N scale layout I am building.
    Thanks again.
    Keith

      Hey glad you found this helpful! I don't use the KATO couplers, must of my items have Micro-trains couplers installed. They seem to work great. From what I understand, Micro-trains is a company started by one of the brothers that started Kadee. I would honestly recommend the Micro-trains over the other styles.

    That works for my operation….. disconnect then shove to the right spot….. then when I pick up they nowhere near the magnets

  • @grahamthedark
    @grahamthedark 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Perhaps if you let it uncouple then push it back off the uncoupler track before you move forward so when you go to pick up the car it is already off the track.

    looks as though that Kato part has a very strong magnetic field even far beyond where it is located... Just makes me wonder where exactly it would be placed on a spur or siding track.

    • @evmanbutts
      @evmanbutts ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most logical placement is on the drill track of a yard or before the entrance to a siding. That way you can kick cars to be sorted at the yard, and with automatic turnouts you could really shunt quickly.
