This is the first time I've commented on a TH-cam video in over a decade, but I must say that the bit in here about using masking tape to hold your pattern still while you cut with the rotary cutter has revolutionized my tailoring!
Looks absolutely dope! Make a wizard cloak to match with an inside sheath for the wand (like you did with for the throwing knives inside the Rogue’s cloak). The War Wizard is REALLY coming along!
I congratulate You on the wonderful video in which You presented the tailoring and sewing of the hood from movie stories! BRAVO! I like it and it would be nice to wear it with a cape.
I love watching your videos! You're not afraid to really say what you feel. It's refreshing. You clearly look like you're having fun while making cool stuff.
This channel is the so.. so.. so.. so good! why on earth this does not have a million views akready?! the enthusiasm alone deserve more than a few hundred thousand views.
I want you to make a video on custom belt buckles, and/or Aragorn's sword. I mean with all the lotr fandom here it's the perfect fit. Love the channel, it's so addictive, keep it up. Lot's of love from the frozen north (Norway).
I really enjoy watching your videos. Great enthusiasm and your imagination seems endless. Your ability to carry out your visions is absolutely incredible and you do so with such ease. You truly are very talented and your work is not only beautiful, but pieces of art. A small tip. There are Teflon presser feet for sewing machines for sewing leather. In a pinch, a plastic straw can be placed over the foot, with similar results. Please keep doing what your doing and thank you for putting in the time and effort you do, thus allowing your viewers countless hours of enjoyment. Best regards !
you're solidifying my cosplay piece by piece with your projects of badassery bro!! much thanks!! the chrome tan leather for your hood was inspirational af ima use some as well for mine. lil different, but you'll see it when i get it done.
Something you could do for leather sticking to the sewing machine's foot is to wrap the seam with paper, or if it's an internal seam, use painter's (blue) tape as it won't pull the nap up too much, The tape will slide across the foot, while allowing enough pressure to make the advancement work. I did that on a cloak I am making and had no problems. Agreeing with other commenters, I feel you may have to go with Weaver or others for sponsorship. My local Tandy's store says they don't do sponsorships. Whether that is a local or corporate decision, I don't know. I do know Weaver sponsors Prince Armory, who does leather armor. another source for cheap light leather is look for a secondhand store near an airplane fabricator. Locally, I have a Falcon Jet facility that donates scrap/extra leather to a place called Habitat for humanity/ Re-Store. I get large pieces of upholstery leather for $1/lb. It takes a Fiebing's dye very well.
I know it is a year-old comment at this point, but it may help someone. I live in an apartment complex. Keep an eye out by the dumpsters towards the end of the month when people might be moving out. A few quick swipes with your pocket knife can get you a nice sized piece of lightweight leather from the back of a discarded couch or chair.
you needed a walking foot for this. with thicker material the sewing machine tends to struggle with moving both sides in tandem. a walking foot moves the top layer while the feed dogs move the bottom layer
I bet Weaver Leather would sponsor you, or maybe Springfield Leather Co.. Tandy isn't the only player in this game, so long as you don't mind ordering online!
I love how enthusiastic you are about this stuff and I've honestly learned a lot from your channel. I've been making chainmaille and leather for quite a few years and truly appreciate the new tricks you've shown me to save loads of time!
I am glad you're finding the channel useful and enjoyable! I hope you share your projects at some point so we can show them off on an episode sometime 😁
Oh man, please tell me you've made a pattern for this and that you're going to sell it on the website. I play battlemages most of the times at LARPs and I've always wanted a hood like this! 😍
Had to watch this again because it came up in my list. Should be able to like it again! lol But I wanted to answer a thing you stated on here about not sure if the chrome tan would move around if you prepunched the holes. Answer: Yes it could. However, glue or tape like you did would have been fine. I make guitar straps and have no problem putting the two together. The chrome tan I use is deer tan. Super supple too!
so, i've been reading the Spellmonger book series by Terry Mancor, and that hood would fit well for one (if not many) of the side characters. Namely Azar, the so called "Sion of Death." he's got a bit of a flair for the dramatic :D
I don't know how you do don't have like a million subs . your videos are awesome and sense of humor is great. By the way now you just cost my wife more money for my bday, but i have to wait a month. that blue leather is beautiful. I haven't played with chrom leather yet..... now looks like something i would do maybe with a shoulder pauldron.
All ways a pleasure watching your vids btw that half vest is awesome. Much love To all the people who make these videos possible and thank you again more projects to make soon as I’m done my half plate half scale mail
Looks amazing, I've got a fairly lightweight cotton cloak that I've waterproofed, but I'd like to remove the hood and add a leather hood and mantle to it. I wonder if you've got any suggestions on how to go about that or would I be better doing it from scratch
@@Scalesthelizardwizard try and run into battle, or away from a dragon with both. As you go back to pick up your hat, you'll see the hood is superior. Other than possibly peripheral vision.

I need to level up my pattern making skill for sure. I made a hood recently from a pattern I bought and it looks great, but having that specific fit is perfect. Guess I'll see if my wife wants to duct tape me.

This is a really nice project. You should try to make battle gloves ( or even gloves to keep your hands warm)
This is honestly just what I needed rn
Glad you enjoyed it!😁
It's close enuf to what I needed right now that it works perfectly, making something similar from a sabretooth comic panel

Absolutely get a walking foot attachment, it'll help push those thicker materials through the machine.
Thank you for the tip! I will!
Maybe like the wizard staff/Glaive I think that would work with this cowl
