    I was learning about Roman wax tablets in my history class, and I think that it would be a fun addition to your belt pouch. They were wooden frames that had wax in them. You could write in the wax with a wooden stylus and erase later.
    I really enjoyed the video. Have fun at comic con!

    Awesome build! I would love to try making something like this. The dripless inkwell is a great idea. I wonder if you could add even more ink bottles in different colors along the side with each color representing a different kind of magic.

    So an after fact note to give your scribe notebook if there's a 2.0, is to use weatherproof waxed paper. You can get a ream at Rite in the Rain and it works great for stuff like this.

    • @emy6732
      @emy6732 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      waxed paper is not going to soak up the ink though... so writing with pen and ink is going to be a problem...

    • @Drakonaut
      @Drakonaut ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @emy6732 they actually make specialized inks that work on those papers, but yeah it's a process to make the set fully waterproof.

    That's a bad-ass build! The dripless inkwell was genius! I'd love to make something like that myself! Now, to make that sweet outfit Burgschneider sent more personal with some weathering or personal character bits (other than the awesome bit of kit you just built, of course) like embroidery, or sewn on braid.❤

  • @confusedmocha3267
    @confusedmocha3267 ปีที่แล้ว

    the cloth for cleaning the nib is a cool addition, especially if you dont want ink on your clothes, but i think it'd be a super cool character detail if the bard just smeared ink on their pants right by the pouch, solely because it's more convenient than the cloth. Like, it'd be the quill equivalent of wiping the blade of your sword on your pants to clean it really quickly. I mainly think it'd be cool because the ink stain would be a really cool bit of visual storytelling. Like, imagine the bard's pants all have basically the same ink stain on the front of their thigh *because* of this quill. And they could totally keep the cloth, so they can properly clean the cloth (swordsmen often keep cleaning supplies for their swords to be properly serviced when they have the time)

    Another idea would be to make the book bag the same way, except have the book vertical in the bag and it wouldn’t even have to open, just a slot to slide the book into, then a small holster for your quill on the side of the bag with cloth inside (to clean the nib when you put the quill into the little quill holster) then have a bandolier with slots for multiple ink bottles (that sponge idea and the bottle stopper were both brilliant and could be used with this idea) so when you come across a story, whip out the notebook, your quill from the holster, pop the top off of the ink bottles and use the ink right from your bandolier, instant access to all writing implements, it all could be done standing and you could be taking down stories anywhere. Sorry, I tend to think utility first haha

    The other thing you could do about the leftover ink on the pen is create a wooden pen cap with the foam in it so the pen tip goes into the cap and the foam soaks up the leftover ink as well as doubles as a small inkwell with the leftover ink.

    Love the whole idea of magic through the stories.. oh my mind are raging with story ideas, and character details!..

    In between uses it would be a good idea to clean the nib more thoroughly. The wipe rage will do for the short term, but over time bits of dry ink can build up inside and clog the nib.

    Another fantastic project, and so well made too! I love the quill you've got, but in that period the flights of the goose feather would be removed from the actual quill, leaving it bare! (The flights were, I belive, used as arrow fletchings) also you should have a little penknife in your kit to cut new quills!)

    • @oakmaiden2133
      @oakmaiden2133 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently saw this about the quills being featherless. Makes more sense if you imagine them in a cup on a desk. Fluffy tops would be in the way, knocking the cup over often.
