-Bioware makes a bad game -Actual consumers don't like the game -Bioware blames and insults consumers -Consumers don't buy the game -Bioware, "Is it me that's wrong? No, it's the consumers that are wrong!"
The customer is always right on matters of taste. BioWare don't understand capitalism. They don't understand their target audience...outside the minority LGBTQ+ "wider audience" community they're pampering to, who are clearly extremely childish and immature, if this game is what the DEI CONsultants said would appeal to these people. Methinks Kim Belair was projecting, when she labelled the vast majority of the games market "gamer babies".
Bioware today - is not same Bioware that were. I remember, when their reaction to Dragon Age 2 criticism was: "Well, we messed up, we will do better." No pointing fingers, no "GAMERZ BAD", nothing. They accepted, they listened, they did tried to do better.
I have constant deja vu with recent releases, remember how Concord devs were very defensive about their game and said something like "our game is not for you!"? People said okay and the game just didn't sell any decent amount of copies, its servers were shut down after a couple of weeks
Thank you for mentioning this Dan. These pseudo developers are ruining our franchises, and instead of taking responsibility they are blaming others for their mistakes.
You really going to do the other Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate, and Star Wars games they’ve worked on like that? They did numerous franchises so incredibly well in the past.
I can sum up Dave Jaffe's sad ass attempt at defending Dragon Age The Veilguard in one famous quote. "Don't ask questions. Just consume product and get excited for next product."
Thanks for coming at this guy Dan. It’s an opinion given not in good faith - but people like this guy are all BioWare needs to justify their decisions and entrench themselves in the path they’re taking. And ruining our favorite franchises.
Agreed, he isn't even trying to make a good faith argument. He makes out that everyone disliking the game must be doing so because they're an awful person, which is just delusional.
@@domm6812 It's insane to knock the anti woke crowd if you do the exact same if the game doesn't have a certain amount of check box people. It's stupid, you could have made a dark fantasy without Pronouns period. This game needed to be really good, with no controversy lol. It choose well I could piss off certain gamers, and then tell them and anyone if you disagree with the delusional crowd your evil lol.
I think people really needed to come at that guy. He was clearly guilty of having a different opinion than the one decided by the consensus think tank and that is unacceptable.
They killed their own franchise and blame on gamers... congrats Bioware! Way to go! Edit: oh wow thanks for the thumbs up, i'm just a brazilian gamergirl that likes to play games! i'm really sad with Bioware and the way they gonna blame on gamers, youtubers and the fans... etc! I thank youtubers like Big Dan, Asmongold, Vara Dark and others to let everyone know what the issue is: the game is unfortunally really BAD! have a nice day people! :D
How about this, get Qunari to act like Qunari, they suppress woman, Sten told you, they don't have Non Binary as terms in DRAGON AGE from Redditors. Elf women sadly were depraved by the regular men, stop diluting your lore, since it makes these characters boring. It's DARK Fantasy lol You can have Gay characters, but make the woman actually attractive, it doesn't have to be Stellar Blade, Miranda was pretty, Ashley was and they were armored lol Next Don't make the game have gay flags nor any flags in the real world, just make a dark fantasy, Make every race BLACK included have good and bad characters, not all men should be morons. Women can be evil Make the bad guys actually be deeper than I want to destroy things End of game don't have Companions tell you their identity on a game about the end of the world lol. Make a game where the writers aren't activist A. B. have where you have people on BOTH sides as writers so the game is balanced. Don't preach Redditor views, nor Democratic views, nor Republican views. Have the game have issues, and make them Unique Genophage hello? Stop making stupid villains' this game should have had SOLAS as the only Antagonist, so stupid. Should have had Hero of Ferelden in the game, and built on older companions, these new ones SUCKED. Have where you can talk and have moments with NPC's since that was neat in Origins. STOP destroying the OG games lore. Mass Effect 5 will suck if these writers are there.
@@lordofgingers That's why I stopped buying Modern US/UK games period. I won't pay unless they stop this. You don't go into a restaurant if the first thing they do is mock you and tell you, your evil for not agreeing with them. TLOU2 think about this a game that tells you guns are evil yet is a shooter lol. Tells you to be progressive, but every one of the characters are evil lol. The MC is awful and instead of choosing happiness goes and fights the evil person than preaches guns are bad. It's mind rot. The graphics look good, but I think you have people that don't comprehend the message, or just out right will argue just because trex people are in the game it's a 10. I don't care if this was with maga people in the game, it's stupid lol.I don't think even if you had the Qunari come out and say I am a Rump supporter, and worship God or something would make be any better. It's awful writing and the people that defend it are brain dead.
No studio or company has ever thrived after blaming its failures on the audience. It's immature to not take any of the feedback into consideration, instead you double down on what your audience is telling you they don't want.
Crimson what does that mean...how bout you be more direct, have you played the game? You guys having a good ol fashion hate party freaking cosplay nerds on here. Go play dress up and your little dragon age outfit.
Its really a sad commentary in and of itself, that the RPG landscape is so poor, people reacting to the companies/devs poor decisions are garnering more attention than the games themselves.
RPG market is in good shape - people just focus on AAA segment that no longer provides quality products. But people rather focus on AAA and preach "gaming is dying" which is weird when you sit on backlog with no time to even scratch that...
I have an easy fix for this game, non Woke people as this guy called it expect something, and you know their going to come out. Well make the game have an issue like Mass Effect did with Asari lol, not Oh I am non binary. It fixes that issue, next thing DA O has female Qunaris oppressed to be cook and cleaners lol. That makes the characters more sympathetic, well they took that out completely and pushed Redditors views. Why don't you just make them be oppressed and one Female got tired of being a cook, and cleaner, and broke out of that lol. These writers are awful and old Bioware knew not to attack ANY fans of the game, left, right, center, now they making games for one side of the Aisle and non stop attacking the other. This is stupid for anyone to attack potential buyers. Next thing if you are proud of your push for Redditors ideals, then own it. Don't attack people that you knew you would piss off lol. This would be like me running over to my neighbor and kicking him in the nuts, then saying why are you upset with me, also pay me 70 plus dollars. Lastly you can't be mad that I hurt you bro. These people are brain dead.
Current Bioware is not the Bioware we rememer. That's what killed DA Veilguard. The writting, the game mechanics, the visuals. Its a really different company even from the on who made DA Inquisition.
@@MR3DDev 🙄 Dude you just acknowledged EA owns Bioware, they are in fact literally one and the same EA were the ones that fired/forced out the original BioWare leads one a time & hand picked their yes man replacements with 0 artistic vision or integrity.
Just finished it literally last night. Every achievement, every ending, over 140 hours into the game. a fan since 2010 with Origins on Xbox 360. After this experience? Solas was right. Destroy the Veil(Guard) and end this world
I think they hired over the top activist and the game shows it. The devs came out attacking one side and labelling anyone that disagreed grifters lol. Bioware is done, their stupid and look how they reacted when people didn't like Mass Effect 3 ending, they added to it and did everything possible lol for FREE. I hate gaming companies at this point, the asian companies are better, the US AAA gaming companies are just awful and I like they lost money, this is coming from a guy that still has ME 3 as his favorite game of all time.
Slight correction, EA ruined Bioware which ruined Dragon Age. Evil Assholes have been a blight on the industry for decades buying out once promising developers/studios & their IPs then hollowing them out until they're reputations are destroyed then shuttering them then sitting on their IPs like a Dragon hoarding its treasure doing F_ck all with them. The issue here is the script is dog$h!t while the setting, charters, & mechanics have been flanderized & it pretty much takes a massive dump on the established lore. Every aspect of it screams death by corporate committee & that committee ultimately sits in EA headquarters.
@@Terminalsanity You nailed it pretty much word from word. I will add one last part, All US AAA companies and UK are listening to the loudest community that doesn't buy games. Redditors, every company wants to make games for these wine moms, and guys that want to pirate games and stay in comment sections. The problem is this crowd hates, humor, attractive women, men being smart, mean jokes, edgy jokes, guns, you know the thing men have cared about for the last 7 000 plus years or so lol. It's a company pandering to a bunch of pansy, whiners that get offended for things they aren't, for games they don't buy period.
Does he not realize that romancing same sex characters have been in games for years and so have characters of color and CDPR put everything in Cyberpunk but didnt shout it from the roof tops and actually got back lash for it but refused to change anything
Jaffe dropped his mask a bit when he referred to the push up scene and admitted the writing was horrible but "I agree with the messaging". So the problem isn't lecturing the player, just that it should have been better written is some unspecified way. In the old days we referred to that as telling a story.
You could Romance same sex since the the first game, but I have not seen any1 in the past 15 years criticise it ever, its the opposite, that game is the most liked of the franchise.
Fifteen years ago the majority of people who got mad at that stuff looked down on games as being for lame nerds and children, DAO was also a throwback title that didn't get as much mainstream attention. Mass Effect two years earlier got flak from those people initially for a fade to black scene(they lied that it wasn't) and got further upset that a same sex scene could happen. Bioware because of the reception scrapped the same sex romances planned for F Shep and -Tali- Jack and M Shep and Jacob. Maybe outside the US people didn't care but that was not the case here video games have been entangled in politics since the 90s over violence and sexual content. Edit: was bored and looked up an interview from a few years ago where Jack's writer lamented Jack being made straight only late in development and that M Shep and Jacob were initially planned to have a romance and a full on scene straight out of Broke Back Mountain.
I don't think anyone criticise the game series for same sex romances (personally would recommend David Jaffe to explore that in DA2) It's just bad writing that makes people hate it
I mean, people did. It's just people didn't vocalize it over the internet as much since social media wasn't really a solid thing yet. It'd be places like Fox News saying the games are degenerate sex simulators.
@@anubis7457 And they get laughed at like they should be. People Like Synthetic Man or AndyPants are never taken seriously other than their cult of insecure followers.
He admitted he didn't finished DA Inquisition and has only played 22 hrs of Veilguard. You know what's even funny, he didn't even know Solas' name. Called him elven something while playing Veilguard. Lmao.
He's grifting. That's ironic thing. He's complaining about grifter's when that's exactly what he's doing. He takings shots at other creators over a game he's only had an hour and a series he has virtually no knowledge on. Even in his follow up video has only 22 hours of play time.
It's just ridiculous to suggest youtubers killed this awful game. It's such a massive departure from the previous games in so many ways, and even looking at it separately on its own, it's incredibly flawed. The denial and delusion from DA:VG's supporters is just incredible.
It’s a matter of coping. Mixed with narcissistic personality disorder. They think their words can sway their audience because they are sheep, so they think that about everyone else. Imagine thinking that TH-camrs are capable of stopping millions upon millions from making the decision to buy a game… not the marketing, messaging, and massive tonal shift to the series that isn’t what Dragon Age was about… and add the heavy handed progressive messaging…yeah, it’s the consumers and TH-camrs that are to blame.
Exactly they made a joke of a game and attack the anti woke crowd. Where was this crowd during Mass Effect 3 lol, many people didn't like the ending and guess what. Bioware fixed many of it for free, now it's well you must be anti Woke if you don't like are brain dead game. If you played OG DA then you will gate this game period. This is a 1/10 for OG Bioware.
Accurate. As it’s own thing. It’s just average. But because we have certain standards and preconceptions for what Dragon Age should be. We rate it(understandably so) much lower.

The only small, and I mean small, glimmer of hope is that the woman who is the narrative lead for the next Mass Effect is the same person who led the writing team on the Guardians of the Galaxy game from Square Enix. If we hear she left BioWare in these upcoming years, I’d say they’re doomed.
@@JohnathanOrtega-g4p Mass Effect games thrived on quality writing (until the ending of ME3). If the same team that worked on Veilguard writes for ME4, there's no reason to hope that the quality will be any better.
Influencers like Asmongold and other TH-camrs almost had zero effect on the decisions of various long-time Bioware fans. Asmongolds lack of experience with Dragon age games was obvious to notice from the beginning. "Do you hate black people?" How clueless can he be. Newbies and grifters like him won't get to the bottom of the issue. Without considering the woke stuff, hateful developers, heavy censorhips and praise of game journalists I couldn't even finish the latest Bioware games like Inquisition or Andromeda because of the mediocre game direction, gameplay, story, design, etc.
@@SonicSkychaser I actually enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda, yeah the story sucked, but the gameplay kept me engaged. The setting was meh, enemies were generic, but I found it enjoyable. I didn’t play it until it hit $20, I recently replayed it again on Gamepass.
The hillarious part is asmongold GAVE THE GAME A 6/10 and said the "woke" elements are there but don't make the game bad after 10 hours of playing. Yet people lie because they never watch him and say he shits on it😂
Asmon even said on stream that he never played a DA game. If anything Skillup's review did more damage than Asmon could've ever done since he played the game and gave his honest opinions before it came out.
If that actually happened, that means either the game is so dogshit, it only takes one person to turn people away from it Or the company making it is very small and niche
The funniest part of all this to me is that Asmon is actually pretty generous to Veilguard compared to the majority of people. He's pretty consistently called it a 6/10, which isn't great, but is still far higher than the game probably deserves.
my SiL made a living doing dragon age fanart for a hot minute. she replayed all three games getting ready for veilguard. she finished veilguard, then immediately started BG3.
when he said that he hadn't played the previous games, you could have already turned off the video, and even more so when he said that he hadn't finished Inquisition.
David Jaffe: “….basically gamers…..(blah blah gaslight gaslight gaslight)”. No, no, Sir. You are done. The jig is up and we’re TIRED of it, we tried to tell you with the number of free-falling sales, but you refuse to listen.
EA gets it, the Evil Assholes just don't care. They never have I swear they intentionally by studios like Bioware just so they can hollow them out so gamers won't expect anything better than mindless pay to win lootbox ridden crap like Madden & FIFA.
The idea that I should have to pay for a game, play it and only then be able to give my opinion on it (considering the MASSIVE amount of information we can get from the internet)... is crazy. It is basically "just give me money, if you don't like the product later...well, I already got paid" And saying people won't make things like stellar blade because we criticize the failguard simply cannot be serious.... it is like saying you won't get to paint the wall blue because you refuse to buy red paint.
People mock Grummz for being failed developer (ex Blizzard iirc? and some MMORPG project with infamous bus) but then you have people like Jaffe, whose "train left the station together with that station"... but he's the "good guy"? With those takes? Also - being veteran game dev does not make you a good player. Still remember Sawyer/Avellone getting defeated by wolves in the first map of Arcanum. Should play on easy with some melee for a start....
Jaffe's take strikes me as one that's all too common in the entertainment industry. Basically, when something fails, industry insiders will always point to some outside cause to excuse the failure. They'll proclaim that audiences don't want anything in this genre anymore. They don't want this type of game. TH-camrs poisoned the well. They don't like this particular actor. They didn't buy it because it's too woke (ignore that this series has been full of gay and bi people from the beginning, and one of the most popular non-party NPCs from Inquisition was a transman). And so on. The finger of blame never gets pointed inward. They never question whether there was an issue with the quality of the end product. The studio never fails. They can only be failed by the audience.
I'm glad someone mentioned Krem, the "too woke" argument is essentially null and void because you've always been able to have same sex relationships and the way Krem was treated was great :D though one thing I kinda miss (I never thought I would miss) was the romance partners having some form of preference just so they felt more fleshed out. Then again it might just be that the writing is so bland that I'm grasping for anything 😂
Now the question is whether these people are cynically trying to shift blame, or if they actually believe they made a good game and will accept no other reason for its failure than foul play.
I really hope they're smart enough to just be trying to shift blame. Nobody can have enough brain damage to think Veilguard was a good game and still perform basic functions in life.
The thing that makes it difficult is that the waters are really muddied right now. Real world politics are ingrained into gaming right now on a level I’ve never seen, and I’ve been a gamer for years. It makes it really hard to tell what complaints are politically motivated, and which ones are valid. That being said, there’s plenty of valid reasons to dislike Veilguard. Bad marketing, bad writing, bad decisions all around. That’s on BioWare, nobody else. They butchered the Grey Wardens and Antivan Crows to the point I can’t recognize them. The writing, again, was awful. The character art looks more like The Sims than anything else. BioWare needs to take full responsibility for this mess. It’s not the TH-camrs’ fault, or the fans. It’s all theirs.
12:07 100% agree with you Dan. 14:21 I saw this guy video and I stop watching when he said that. I started playing Dragon Age because my viewers insisted I check it out, saying the story was incredible. They weren’t wrong-I got so immersed in the world that I even ended up reading the books. As a newer fan, I didn’t have to wait 10 years for a sequel, but I can see why longtime fans are frustrated with The Veilguard. Origins was so immersive, with choices that shaped your unique version of Thedas. That personalization made BioWare special, and losing it is disappointing, especially for those deeply invested in the lore. I still can’t get over Ferelden being gone-there’s no way Varric, the Hero of Ferelden, and the Inquisitor would let it fall so easily. And the absence of Sandal? That’s another letdown. So no not TH-camr didn’t kill Dragon Age
9:26 I love how they're kind of self reporting themselves. TH-camrs absolutely contributed to and harmed the sales of the game, but I think that TH-camrs exposing a game as mid and then their viewers deciding to save their money is how reviews are meant to work. So being upset at the 'grifters' for exposing the slop, and then basically crying they couldn't trick people into buying that slop, isn't a hill thats worth dying on
Dan made a great point...the Eurogamers and IGNs of the world are fine for posting glowing review scores that could sway people to buy the game, but when TH-camrs are more critical and are asking people to save their money, that makes it 'grifting' and 'dangerous' to gaming. The simple fact is, these 'journalists' don't have the power and influence they once did, and the corporate overlords aren't happy about it.
@iceman00behave that's a bit of hypocrisy I cannot stand. When people rate something as a 10, it is fine, but if it's too negative, they're review bombing and it doesn't count. I know you'll have people on both sides who will rate 10 and 0 just because, but you can't call out one side for being dishonest and then lump all other critical reviews under that umbrella when the other side is doing the exact same thing
- Mega corp buys a world famous steak house - They hire a team of vegan chefs. - They change the menu to exclusively vegan - Invites only vegan critics before the major reopening. - Are surprised that previous customers are upset and not coming again. - "OMG, the mean meat eaters hate vegans, and can't stand them even existing"
As soon as Bioware announced the first two games choices means nothing, I came from 100% gonna buy to remove and ignore from my wishlist. Reviewer does nothing about my decision, it's Bioware themselves make me not buying this game
Same. I was gonna wait for a sale when I saw that the companions were not longer controllable. When I learnt that none of the choices from the previous games, except 3 minor ones from DAI, transferred over I Immediatly peaced out. The world state was the core of DA. Without that it was DA in name only for me.
Bioware got rid of the majority of their writers from the previous games. Disregarded all established lore, nuked the settings of the previous titles in codex entries and white washed some of the most atrocious factions to exist. Then, as if getting some sort of sexual gratification, they decided to tease a new super secret illuminati type faction who is responsible for Loghain’s betrayal and Varrick’s brother stealing the red lyrium idol. Yet it’s everyone else’s fault the game is doing so poorly and that majority of DA fans are pissed off with it
I don’t give a shit about whether “woke” is in video games or not, what I expect from dragon age is good writing, compelling characters and that my choices matter. I didn’t find any of that in veilguard, irregardless of what TH-camrs say it was a failure to me.
As a fan of both franchises it is sad to say that "might destroy" is a large helping of forlorn of optimism m8. Looking at the husk of Bioware as it stands now I think Mass Effect will go the same way as Dragon Age. And that just makes me sad 😟
@@SeventhheavenDK It certainly started with Andromeda. But even Andromeda had some good combat, even if the companion characters and story were ultimately forgetable.

Imagine if Chevrolet made a new corvette. It was a hatchback that only came in pink, or baby blue. The engine was a non turbo 4 cylinder that generated 183 horsepower at 4000 rpm, yet somehow got 8 miles to the gallon and required premium fuel. Oh, and it only came with an AM radio and no Bluetooth. And it $90,000. So nobody buys it, and they talk about the great corvettes of the past, and how sexy they were, and fast. And Chevrolet states publicly “We didn’t make a shitty car, we just have shitty customers.”

It's the end of the world lol, I am non binary? It's stupid, the anti woke crowd? No it's stupid and out of place. The qunari women are suppressed in Origins so you know they warped this game. You have to make a game and respect that a lot of the anti woke crowd do buy the game lol. They could touch these issues but change it to make the Qunari females getting tired of being told to just clean and cook, and take care of kids and being oppressed, the thing is these writers said, let's make a reddit game, for people that don't buy games lol.
BioWare, buried Dragon Age, not anti-woke TH-camrs. The fact of the matter is DATV ignored basically all the other games and only carried over whether your inquisitor romanced Solas or not for the series grand conclusion.
I mean this is just some real Bioware sell out stuff here from the guy. Remove the name Dragon Age from Veilguard. You would never be able to tell the game is set in that Universe. Games are bad these days because the developers are too busy focusing on changing beloved franchises to suit their own desires, rather than keep them authentic to pre-established features and characters of the franchise. There are also preachy, no one wants to be preached at by a video game no matter where you sit in terms of politics of believes.
He clarified he said the grifters- you know, the rant bros- contributed to the game underperforming in sales. This seems compeltely true. He says the grifters tend to focus on teh anti woke narrative to rant, which some do, and goes on to say you can avoid having same sex pairings if you want, so this argument should not be problem. He ends up agreeing the writing, altough he enjoys the plot and overall message, is not good, cringey in some points, and that, if you came to the game expecting dark fantasy ( and he blames the studio for initially selling the game this way) then YES, you should be dissapointed. Dan, the title is a bit clickbaity...he clarified perfectly well what he meant and the points he made are very thoughtful and rational.
Mass effect 5 will end with everyone coming back from the dead and somehow the reapers as misunderstood villains...Oh and also Liara is a they now...? (Ingame lore says they are an all female species btw)
DAO was originally intented as a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. Bioware: Let's give up on tactical rpg and go the action route to get a broader audience. Result: Baldur's Gate 3 has more player 1.5 years after release than Veilguard the week of its release. Wise move indeed
If you want to ignore every single bit of context of what happened to the market and Bioware in the twenty four years between BG2 and BG3 being released sure only the end result of BG3 being awesome and Veilguard sucking is all that matters.
Dev2 "They don't like it boss" Dev1 "What do you mean 'they don't like it'? Wtf were they expecting?" Dev2 "....A Dragon Age game...." Dev1 "Their expectations are too damn high!..... Our failures are the gamers fault"
"Why not eat the slop?", as you summarized, really was the context of his arguments about Veilguard vs other ARPG's. 😑 Nobody is deserving of more blame than Bioware. David Jaffe needs to put his ego aside, consumers have already spoken and made their decision.
It doesn't really matter whatever or not critics/TH-camrs like a game or not. If a game is bad people will not play it and same applies to the opposite. TH-camrs are literally just the voice of the people.
David Jaffe kept the conversation and his criticism around the coverage of Veilguard focused on the politics because that's the easiest way to silence criticism. After all, if you can convince enough people that the criticism comes from bad faith due to ignorance or political beliefs, you can gaslight people into both not trusting criticism from certain people, and potentially trick more people into buying the game to give it a chance. It's a bad faith defense that moves the conversation away from the things he doesn't want under scrutiny. He even says himself that he agrees with the politics and messaging, so why wouldn't he take a stand that encourages people to consume said messaging? Meanwhile the people who hate the game because of the art style shift, tone, and genre shift get ignored because the people who are listening to him write us off as haters, grifters, and worse.
How ignorant can people be saying a game is bad because of TH-camrs reviews is like saying a game is suddenly good or fun to play because of TH-camrs reviews when really the only people responsible or held accountable should be the developers that failed to reach their fan base because they were too focused on a target audience
Slight correction, this isn't Bioware. Bioware died when Anthem failed; what we've seen since is Bioware's zombified corpse. Hopefully this game fails enough to finally put the corpse down before Mass Effect gets its own Veilguard.
When he said he only played Inquisition and didn't even finish it I pretty much dismissed anything he had to say on the topic of Bioware. Heck, the fact that he couldn't even remember Solas' name tells me he probably didn't even play much of Inquisition at all.
I have appreciated Big Dan's genuine criticism even towards beloved franchises like Mass Effect when they were made with innovation, respect, and passion. Objective analysis and critique should not be problematic even if it is uncomfortable to accept (Mass Effect 3). We waited 10 years for a sequel to Inquisition only to be delivered this controversial travesty. In my opinion, none of the sequels have lived up to the golden standard of Dragon Age: Origins.
The biggest reason Veilguard actually failed is because it is a project tied to a game that released 10 years prior, that went through development hell and at least three levels of an identity crisis. Many people who would have wanted to play it forgot the franchise existed. And since it's a sequel, it does nothing to endear itself to new players, either. Add to this the fact that, from the eyes of a new viewer, it really did nothing to make itself stand out, it was only properly marketed for 3-4 months before release, and the marketing for it--and the end product of the game itself--lacked a clear and defining identity. Not least of because of the fact that Dragon Age has never succeeded at having that from game to game in the first place.
The Duke Nukem Forever effect. Not that they're the exact same, it's that long, 10-year cycles produce these results. I'm favor of 3-5 year cycles, and overlapping projects instead of layoffs.
THIS take. the real reason veilguard has so many issues is it suffered from development hell for 10 years, complete redesigns/scrapping of the game over n over hurt its development so badly.
It's amazing the game is as technically sound as it is. It's polished and has great accessibility options and customization for difficulty and UI I just wish the actual game those good parts were attached to was better.
It just sounds like those close to the industry, like David Jaffe, are salty about TH-cam as it's a part of the review process they can't completely control. The gaming press is completely hopeless for reviews these days.
I truly believe that this guy doesn't really defend Veilguard but the idea of Veilguard's gameplay. We all know that Veilguard is inspired by god of war 2018 and a really bad MMO . And Veilguard fails at both of these
LOL The blacks??? I am crying 😂😂😂😂 That aside, my favorite Dragon Age is Origins and I have not played Veilguard yet to speak on it, but it does not seem like something I want to play $60 for. Maybe I will try when it is like $20.
That’s how I see it as well. They suck and they shouldn’t be taken seriously, but it’s note exactly their fault, that the game failed. It’s just badly written and for a franchise like Dragon Age, that’s really bad. I was a fan of every other game in the series, but DA:TV kind of broke me, lol? Like I have no interest in the IP anymore.
A bad game is a bad game. Even if every youtuber said, this game is good, I won't buy it (and maybe stop watching the youtubers telling nonsense). Simply because you can clearly see how badly this game was developed. I watched 7 hours of gameplay of the game on TH-cam in the hope of finding something positive about the game. But the game is crap.
so he watched the rise of skywalker and now thinks that this is the best star wars movie ever made even tho he never saw the originals.. i would hate to watch your top 10 movies
Anyone else want Dragon Age to be rebooted? Specifically with a remake of Origins akin to Dead Space 2023. Veilguard did irreparable damage for any sequels Dragon Age would have. I would even petition to have Motive be in charge of it. They did a great job remaking Dead Space while still being faithful to the original and expanding upon it.
I don't understand why anyone would want a remake. In a remake they would censor things, rework the story, maybe even reduce it, change the combat system, change most (if not all) of the voice actors, etc. What we need is just a remaster available for modern consoles and that works perfectly on PC.
-Bioware makes a bad game
-Actual consumers don't like the game
-Bioware blames and insults consumers
-Consumers don't buy the game
-Bioware, "Is it me that's wrong? No, it's the consumers that are wrong!"
The customer is always right on matters of taste.
BioWare don't understand capitalism. They don't understand their target audience...outside the minority LGBTQ+ "wider audience" community they're pampering to, who are clearly extremely childish and immature, if this game is what the DEI CONsultants said would appeal to these people.
Methinks Kim Belair was projecting, when she labelled the vast majority of the games market "gamer babies".
- Once it flops, BioWare blames the failure on consumers, not their own inability to deliver a quality product and experience.
Bioware today - is not same Bioware that were. I remember, when their reaction to Dragon Age 2 criticism was: "Well, we messed up, we will do better." No pointing fingers, no "GAMERZ BAD", nothing.
They accepted, they listened, they did tried to do better.
just like Ubi
I have constant deja vu with recent releases, remember how Concord devs were very defensive about their game and said something like "our game is not for you!"? People said okay and the game just didn't sell any decent amount of copies, its servers were shut down after a couple of weeks
Thank you for mentioning this Dan.
These pseudo developers are ruining our franchises, and instead of taking responsibility they are blaming others for their mistakes.

Eurogamer called Veilguard the best BioWare game they ever played? So they haven't played any Mass Effect games, cool to know

I can sum up Dave Jaffe's sad ass attempt at defending Dragon Age The Veilguard in one famous quote. "Don't ask questions. Just consume product and get excited for next product."
“Me personally, I _loved_ Avowed”
“Uh Rich, Avowed isn’t out yet”
“Me personally, I will love Avowed”
Thanks for coming at this guy Dan. It’s an opinion given not in good faith - but people like this guy are all BioWare needs to justify their decisions and entrench themselves in the path they’re taking. And ruining our favorite franchises.
Agreed, he isn't even trying to make a good faith argument. He makes out that everyone disliking the game must be doing so because they're an awful person, which is just delusional.

It's DARK Fantasy lol
You can have Gay characters, but make the woman actually attractive, it doesn't have to be Stellar Blade, Miranda was pretty, Ashley was and they were armored lol
Next Don't make the game have gay flags nor any flags in the real world, just make a dark fantasy,
Make every race BLACK included have good and bad characters, not all men should be morons. Women can be evil
Make the bad guys actually be deeper than I want to destroy things
End of game don't have Companions tell you their identity on a game about the end of the world lol.
Sadly this has been the common trend with developers. People who didn’t like TLOU2 were treated this way also.
Yeah its the same with Disney and many others. They blame the fans for their own failures
@@lordofgingers That's why I stopped buying Modern US/UK games period. I won't pay unless they stop this. You don't go into a restaurant if the first thing they do is mock you and tell you, your evil for not agreeing with them. The MC is awful and instead of choosing happiness goes and fights the evil person than preaches guns are bad. It's mind rot. The graphics look good, but I think you have people that don't comprehend the message, or just out right will argue just because trex people are in the game it's a 10. First time I heard of this game was from asmongold now I hate it
No studio or company has ever thrived after blaming its failures on the audience. It's immature to not take any of the feedback into consideration, instead you double down on what your audience is telling you they don't want.
Then call you bigots for not liking the slop they produced, don't forget about that part.

I love you Dash! Nice to see you here
Dang, what’re you doin’ here?
Hi Dash! Good to see you here!
Current Bioware is not the Bioware we rememer. That's what killed DA Veilguard. The writting, the game mechanics, the visuals. Its a really different company even from the on who made DA Inquisition.
There is no Bioware only EA.
@Terminalsanity EA is the publisher. Bioware ia the studio. While EA owns Bioware they are not one and the same.

I hate gaming companies at this point, the asian companies are better, the US AAA gaming companies are just awful and I like they lost money, this is coming from a guy that still has ME 3 as his favorite game of all time.
All this whole thing did is make me go back and play all my favorite bioware games of the past. And I didn't have to spend a single dollar
Well EA too
Slight correction, EA ruined Bioware which ruined Dragon Age.
Doesn't fit his narrative.
You could Romance same sex since the the first game, but I have not seen any1 in the past 15 years criticise it ever, its the opposite, that game is the most liked of the franchise.
Because those characters were written well.
I don't think anyone criticise the game series for same sex romances (personally would recommend David Jaffe to explore that in DA2)
It's just bad writing that makes people hate it
I mean, people did. It's just people didn't vocalize it over the internet as much since social media wasn't really a solid thing yet.
It'd be places like Fox News saying the games are degenerate sex simulators.

It’s just severe copium on the part of the gaming devs. They have lost touch with reality.

The idea that I should have to pay for a game, play it and only then be able to give my opinion on it (considering the MASSIVE amount of information we can get from the internet)... is crazy. It is basically "just give me money, if you don't like the product later...well, I already got paid"
And saying people won't make things like stellar blade because we criticize the failguard simply cannot be serious.... it is like saying you won't get to paint the wall blue because you refuse to buy red paint.

Also - being veteran game dev does not make you a good player. Still remember Sawyer/Avellone getting defeated by wolves in the first map of Arcanum. Should play on easy with some melee for a start....
people mock grimmz for being a divorced gooner
How ironic that a month or so ago those exact same people were saying it was an overwhelming success and a "return to form".
4:28 It's so nice of him to give us permission to like or not like things. Though the tone of it implies opinions not aligned to his own are wrong.

It baffles me their last Dragon Age won game of the year, so they decided to do everything to make sure it's nothing like it
Now the question is whether these people are cynically trying to shift blame, or if they actually believe they made a good game and will accept no other reason for its failure than foul play.
I really hope they're smart enough to just be trying to shift blame. Nobody can have enough brain damage to think Veilguard was a good game and still perform basic functions in life.

I must have missed that youtubers wrote the atrocious dialogue, designed the basic combat system or created the mobile game style UI.
I'm really worried about Mass Effect now, in fact I have no hope for it anymore
I appreciate you speaking your opinion, especially when certain really toxic people target anyone criticizing bad quality media.
Everyone is a grifter these days. Apparently, no one can actually disagree with an opinion and be authentic about it
9:26 I love how they're kind of self reporting themselves.
@@iceman00behaveThe companies need to sponsor TH-camrs then😂
5:55 - We talkin BUILDS?
Mankind divided has a TON of problems, but it let me throw a vending machine at a boss instead of shoot them or stealth them.
😂
- Mega corp buys a world famous steak house

Assassins Creed: Odyssey does everything The Veilguard does, but 100 times better. And Ubisoft are garbage at making RPGs
I was just thinking about that. Odyssey wasn't great, but everything it does it does better than Veilguard.
It hurts me man, BioWare destroyed dragon age and they might destroy Mass effect 😔
As a fan of both franchises it is sad to say that "might destroy" is a large helping of forlorn of optimism m8. Looking at the husk of Bioware as it stands now I think Mass Effect will go the same way as Dragon Age. And that just makes me sad 😟
Didn't that happen in Andromeda?
@@SeventhheavenDK It certainly started with Andromeda. But even Andromeda had some good combat, even if the companion characters and story were ultimately forgetable.
@@SeventhheavenDK Andromeda gets a pass because it didn’t touch Shepard and the Milky Way, however the game it self was pretty meh but this is ME they can’t do the same bs twice right surely?
not "MIGHT" they WILL
Politically compromised take from Jaffe, playing team sports. You could take all the political ideology out of the game and it would still be a bad game.
Dude says he likes the narrative “what’s his name? The elf guy who’s kind of a god” that tells me all that I need to know. He doesn’t one singular clue about what he is talking about
David is truly become a Lol Cow. The guy has completely lost the plot and now is becoming what he claims other people are!
There are dozens of videos by professional writers that highlight how poor the writing is in this game.
The game looks like it is set in the Shrek universe but doesn't have Shrek.
BioWare, buried Dragon Age, not anti-woke TH-camrs. The fact of the matter is DATV ignored basically all the other games and only carried over whether your inquisitor romanced Solas or not for the series grand conclusion.
I can't believe Big Dan killed Dragon Age...
"you didnt give them a chance 😢😢😢😢😢"
Bro compared it to Elden ring combat. He lost his mind😂
Dev2 "They don't like it boss"
Dev1 "What do you mean 'they don't like it'? Wtf were they expecting?"
Dev2 "....A Dragon Age game...."
Dev1 "Their expectations are too damn high!..... Our failures are the gamers fault"
Dan’s comment specifically at 11:13 is spot on and something I wish more people would understand…
Can we just forget this game existed ? And believe me I'm trying to. But the more we talk about it the pain I endure compounds.
"Why not eat the slop?", as you summarized, really was the context of his arguments about Veilguard vs other ARPG's. 😑
Nobody is deserving of more blame than Bioware. David Jaffe needs to put his ego aside, consumers have already spoken and made their decision.
He focuses on the woke angle because the poor gameplay, writing, story choices, etc. aren't defensible.
It doesn't really matter whatever or not critics/TH-camrs like a game or not. If a game is bad people will not play it and same applies to the opposite. TH-camrs are literally just the voice of the people.
Bioware should have been closed after Andromeda. It's Miracle they still last. I hope they gonna shut down the studio soon.
You are spot on about why it failed. I hope BioWare will some how come around to understanding this so that they don't "F" up the next Mass Effect.
Let me know if anyone can figure out who the game was made for. The amount of sabotage done to the Dragon Age franchise is stunning.
NonBuyNary people I assume?
He's so out of touch what's your average modern gamer. Nobody wants to get preach in the video games anymore.
I am crying 😂😂😂😂
That aside, my favorite Dragon Age is Origins and I have not played Veilguard yet to speak on it, but it does not seem like something I want to play $60 for. Maybe I will try when it is like $20.
😂😂😂😂
I think you can play it if you have EA play
Didnt asmon think the game was alright lmao he has one of the more positive reviews ive seen on youtube
lol yeah he played like 80 hrs and was like "its a 6/10"
Calling Jaffe a filthy casual is so accurate 💯 😂
Your lame😂
asmongold and other "anti-woke" influencers talk a lot of nonsense, but blaming them for failure is ridiculous
This game would have been a lot more succesful if it wasn't a Dragon Age game
A bad game is a bad game. Even if every youtuber said, this game is good, I won't buy it (and maybe stop watching the youtubers telling nonsense). Simply because you can clearly see how badly this game was developed. I watched 7 hours of gameplay of the game on TH-cam in the hope of finding something positive about the game. But the game is crap.
so he watched the rise of skywalker and now thinks that this is the best star wars movie ever made even tho he never saw the originals.. i would hate to watch your top 10 movies
Technically, EA killed Bioware and then killed Dragon Age.
Then play Ironsworn
Honestly they would find a way to screw it up. I would love it if they would do it faithfully but I doubt they can at this point.
I don't understand why anyone would want a remake.
In a remake they would censor things, rework the story, maybe even reduce it, change the combat system, change most (if not all) of the voice actors, etc.
What we need is just a remaster available for modern consoles and that works perfectly on PC.
