Here in Canada, the northern residents often have to use 3 foot extension sections between the handle and drill sections. It is common to have 5 or 6 feet of ice. Siberia is cold but is still more south than 1/3 of Canada!
@HakuryuuSimp Canada has the most lakes of any country in the world. Of course, the more north you go, the thicker the ice. Canada reaches farther north than Siberia does, and the northern most communities are as cold as Yakutsk. -50C is normal in those villages. Also, there is a fair bit of Canada north of these places where no one lives at all. No one is sure how cold it gets there
@HakuryuuSimp I live on the west coast of Canada. Here we grow kiwi fruit, lemons, and palm trees, so it's not really cold. Have had only 2 nights with frost so far this season. It hit -1C. 5 years ago on this island (Vancouver Island) it hit +50 during summer for a few hours at a friends place. Not all of Canada is very cold ! I think the northernmost point of Canada is just as far from here as Yakutsk is! Like Russia, Canada is huge

Not really, sometimes there is pressure on the water and once there is a whole, it will flow out. That ice being 3 feet thick could be driven on with a semi.

How don't they slip??
I've known people who've gotten terribly injured just from entering or exiting (a place/vehicle) in Canada.
It's different if you know you are on ice. If you don't expect it, then that's when you slip. It's easy to walk on ice
It's most slippery when it's mixture of water and ice. As the temperature gets colder the ice becomes harder it starts to gain some friction.
Really good winter boots also help
they are drunk... so it cancels out
As stupid as it sounds you just have to walk with your weight forward a little like a penguin. Crampons help too.
