- Knock at the Cabin is the latest M. Night movie and it's based on a book, so of course he threw out the book's ending and created his own. Sigh. Here are the sins.

Idk, he seemed a bit forced an off kilter to me, he wasn't great imo but he far exceeded my expectations for what I thought Bautista was capable of (my first time watching him act outside wrestling)
It is the guy shoulda acted instead of wrestling from the get go. I mean he was good. Damn tho he’s an amazing actor
At least Dave Bautista has acting range compared to The Rock who only wants roles of a Tough Guy who never loses.
This is why I always look forward to a Batista role so much more.

Bautista being so polite and cordial made his role so much more creepy. He was incredible in the film.
This! I was thinking, "I want a teacher like him for my kids! He's amazing!" And I couldn't help but think that Bautista probably also gives the best hugs. lol
As dark as this movie is, I honestly liked it more than I expected. Dave Bautista's performance was a BIG reason; he has so much gravitas, and he's so nuanced, you find yourself asking why he doesn't land more dramatic roles like this.
I’m sure after his performance in this he will be offered more similar roles. I agree with you, his performance in this was brilliant.
If you think this is dark you should check out the book. There are some big differences.

Gotta love when Shyamalan uses one of his classic cinematic techniques, the iconic “my characters speak to each other like experimental androids disguised as regular humans whose sole purpose to have a believable human conversation fails miserably everytime”

the book kind of felt like this too
reading up on it, i personally prefer the original way the book did it. (for those curious, spoilers for the book: Andrew escapes at some point and gets his gun out of the car, which he uses to kill Adrienne, but he ends up in a struggle with Leonard over the gun and it goes off and Wen is accidentally shot and killed. Everyone is sad, Leonard lets himself be tied up by Andrew and Eric, but then tells them that since Wen wasn't a willing sacrifice, the apocalypse is still going to happen. Basically he says Andrew or Eric still has to die. By the end of the book Sabrina kills Leonard and then tells them they can still prevent the apocalypse and then she kills herself, but Andrew and Eric decide that they will stay together because they don't want to lose each other after already losing Wen. Andrew says that he won't obey a god who doesn't accept Wen's death as enough, and they take her body with them to Redmond's car, and to whatever destination they're headed for next.)

Fun fact: The book this movie was based on ends COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY. Also, it's literally titled, "The Cabin At The End Of The World." At least M. Night is finally giving credit where it's due, as far as adapting people's books (lesson clearly learned from "The Village," btw)...
I definitely like the ending of the book more. It's bitter but has a much more powerful "emotional hit", in my opinion!

Dave Bautista did a really good job in this film and in my opinion one of the few wrestlers turned actor that has fantastic range from a joker character to a serious dramatic actor
There's only really been, like, three of them right? The Rock, John Cena, and Bautista. At least in my recent memory.

@hksin11186 Hulk Hogan was in a bunch of movies in the 90s. There have been a few others that crossed over but those are probably the biggest.
@SinHurr many wwe wrestlers act in wwe productions. Edge is also a wrestler for example that does movies and shows outside of wwe but not at the scale that john cena does.

The ending would've been SO much better if it was left ambiguous as to if Eric's death worked or not or was even necessary. But M. Night can't resist explaining everything by the end.

They say that their visions are coming true as the apocalypse starts. Adriane mentions that in her visions she watches her son be burned alive in her own arms. But that's impossible since she has to be sacrificed for the apocalypse to happen so she can't be there when he dies.
Dave Bautista should master the power of Invisibility by standing perfectly still.

The biggest sin in this movie is changing the ending from the novel. One of the most provocative and interesting endings was shifted to a generic horror ending. Disappointing

From the moment Bautista arrived on screen he had me mesmerised. He played his small role in BR 2049 well and made me take notice, but in this! Wow! His performance is brilliant.

This movie did a great job keeping me on the fence as to whether they were crazy or not and the apocalypse was really happening. At least until I saw the planes falling down.
Dave can act! He doesn't have to be the big tough guy action hero for every role. He's actually a pretty damn good actor.

I cannot get over that test at the beginning. What school teaches kids words like “cucumber” and “macaroni?” Kids learn that from eating dinner. You didn’t even mention she identified macaroni as a plant.
If they somehow connected Knock at the Cabin to Cabin in the Woods that would've been amazing.

Dave Bautista was awesome in this movie, I just watched it before watching this video. Also 👏👏👏 M. Night did a good job on this movie, the final death scene was (idk) a bit preachy and awkward, but they made up for it with that radio scene. That shit had me cracking up.

why did Redmond even need his hammer? It seemed like they knew the order they would go if the family refused. So he was just carrying it around for no reason. Point is, Redmond should have ate an apple at some point.
The old Underdog cartoon also had a villian named RiffRaff.
The book left it on a really ambiguous note, though the outcome was more tragic.
I had it in my mind that Wen was some kind of anti-Christ that God had sent the four unknowing strangers to the cabin to put an end to.(I know it's dark, but I didn't expect her to die) I thought the dads were going to make the call to kill one of themselves, only to have the end of the world still happen, and getting a final shot of a smirking Wen.
I'm not sure what the twist was here. That what they were saying was the truth? M. Night can do better than that.

I think the perfect ending to this movie would be a twist (yes, I know that's a Shyamalan cliche) where they WEREN'T supposed to kill anyone to show the true love and compassion found in humanity.
That doesn't make much sense since the killings here are done to save the world therefore they would be the most compassionate act you could do.

I watched this movie a second time just for Bautista. And I’m glad Groff was allowed to sing in this one. It’s a shame he didn’t get the chance in Matrix. Its a missed opportunity that would’ve improved that movie.
this is just a suggestion but you guys should totally do the movie Unicorn Wars! It’s one of the most visually appealing animated movies I’ve ever seen

No Roll Credits sin, I am disappointed.
What I didnt like was when each of the 4 died, that the news coverage immediately was able to go into in-depth coverage about was going on. As opposed to realistically the media even knowing that things were happening. Which made it seem that the news coverage was pre-recorded as they couldnt possibly be that detailed about the situation.
The making this a feature film rather than just a 50 minute short (black mirror or something) is so true.
I knew this was an Mnightmare video . Most of his movies make me feel like I've wasted my time waiting for the movie to get good and by the end I'm like wait ...it didn't get good !?!? Well mr shamalamalan I wont waist my time lol

I know this is cinemasins and we're not supposed to talk about books but Shyamalan made too many fundamental changes to the plot to convey whatever message he was trying to convey (i'm not even sure he knows at this point). In conclusion: read the book, it's so much better.
The author of the book agreed to the changes. In fact, told Shyamalan he had thought to end it that way at first. Besides, Shyamalan changed the title so people would know it wasn't exactly like the book.

I know this is Cinemasins and the books don't matter, but in the book, Wen dies when Leonard and Eric are struggling for the gun. When that breaks the rules of it being a willing sacrifice, everybody gives up trying to stop the apocalypse. My point is that's a better ending.
I wounder what would have happened to their plan if the family decided to not go to the Cabin! 😂😂
