      Hugo Joubert Nope. That's Harry Potter. I don't care what the Academy says, it's Harry Potter than defines fantasy cinema.

      isaac land Or Tolkien had a time travel machine and stole the ideas of Harry Potter. That's pretty much what all Harry Potter-fans think, so you can't convince me.

      Chris Stuckmann hello Chris, I am not sure if you're reading this, this is an old video I know. I do hope that you get to read this. I am a huge fan of your work and I try to write some reviews on my own, I absolutely love movies. I recently watched the Dollars Trilogy by Sergio Leone. I loved all of them. Can you please review them, especially The Good The Bad And The Ugly, its one of my favorite movies. I would love to hear your opinion on it.

  • @kurisucosmo7954
    @kurisucosmo7954 10 ปีที่แล้ว +261

    Seriously, I felt like all 3 movies should have won everything they were nominated for. But the fact that Return of the King practically swept the Oscars was so epic. I mean, not one fantasy movie has ever won an award, or at least, not the Best Picture award. And Return of the King won like 25 awards in one night.
    The movie was so masterfully done, that not even the dumb, old men of the board on the Oscars could deny it. They should have just given up and handed Viggo Mortensen and Elijah Wood the Best Actor award (and yes, I'm saying they should've made two trophies just for them). But really, every single actor in this trilogy deserved an award. I can't put into words how EPIC and amazing this movie and the whole trilogy are. Whatever I say would be an injustice.

      Same. I haven't seen Citizen Kane yet (apparently the greatest movie ever(?)), so I have to check it out, but so far, this movie pretty much makes it look like it's The Godfather. Don't get me wrong I saw the first movie and loved it, but even that seems to be a second place compared to Citizen Kane, so that's the only way I could make that analogy. That kind of sucks.

    Denethor isn't a king, he's a steward. Though he is not really corrupt, he is losing his mind. While the movie show's him in a more negative light, his character in the book was a strong and noble man, however after the many years of war against Sauron and his growing power, Denethor slowly started to sink into despair, the death of his son Boromir only made matters worse, and by the time Sauron's forces descended upon the White City, Denethor completely gave up all hope and sank into madness.

The Two Towers was a darker movie where we could saw all the character development and the anticipation to the first epic war. The Return of the King was perfect in the sense that we all feel "this is it", the last stand.
    Overall a truly EPIC trilogy which set unrealistic stander for future movies. there will bever be somthing as good as this...

    There is a moment in this film when Aragorn actually fights Sauron with his sword. This was originally intended to be the big ending. However, Peter Jackson felt this strayed too far from the books and took away from Frodo and Sam, so scenes from that swordfight remain but the VFX people put a big troll over the top of Sauron.

  • @nathanapplegate5374
    @nathanapplegate5374 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The extended edition made the movie even better. It even added continuity to the film at one point. If you recall in the theatrical release, I don’t know if you caught it or not, but when Pippen ran to Gandalf to tell him Faramir was going to be burned alive, Gandalf has his staff. But by the time the movie gets back to that whole situation and Gandalf is bursting into the Pyre chamber telling Denathor “stay this madness”, Gandalf suddenly... doesn’t have his staff????!!!!! He instead takes a spear from a guard. The extended edition has a good (and epic) explanation for why Gandalf didn’t have his staff, and without the extended edition, that would have been a movie mistake. The scene was even for shadowed earlier in the film.

    And Pippin did volunteer as a servant but not to a corrupt king, but to the steward of Gondor (Boromir and Faramir's father played by John Noble). Aragorn/Stryder is the true king since he came from the a royal bloodline (which he didn't initially want to claim and became a ranger) whereas the steward is not from a royal line, hence only a caretaker :) I'm nitpicking I know lol. But A+++ for the whole trilogy and your reviews Chris!

    I remember when I was young and first saw LOTR:ROTK in IMAX with my dad and older sister. I was 7 or 8 but I fully remember the experience. I mean at that age sitting through an almost 3 hour movie and not wanting to take a potty break because you were so inthralled with the visuals and story can only be the work of a great master of cinema that can make old and young be enveloped in such a fantastical journey. Fantastic Reviews for a Fantastic Trilogy.

    LOTR makes up all three of my three favorite movies. That being said, there was a lot of characters and plot details that the movies didn't do justice, such as Denethor not being as bad as he was portrayed, or how Merry and Eowyn were able to kill the Witch King. However, this is because they couldn't. If they had tried, the movies would be at least twice as long, so I don't count it as a downside.
