4:02 you paused for three seconds after saying you were a little bit high. I actually thought for a second you were doing this half baked. Thanks for the video though. Helped alot.
holy shit, I cant believe what I just watched. I am always seriously amazed at the wonderful things people do to their vehicles or someone else's vehicle. So let me get this straight you spent at least 30 minutes drilling through the cars inner body/ frame in lieu of removing the air box which would allow access to the part without damaging the car, and only takes 5 minutes. peace and love my friend
Lol. Well played, my friend. This car was totaled shortly afterwards. I'm sure there was a good reason why I felt this was appropriate but I honestly can't remember why at this point. Thanks for your tactful input.
I just changed the belt & the tensioner on a 2012 Equinox 2.4L engine. • absolutely remove the air cleaner box. You do not need to remove any wire connectors, only two 10mm bolts with a long extension.. loosen the screw on the air hose and push aside. Pull out the plastic tab holding the wire harness to the body. Lift out the whole air cleaner and push up and out of the way. • follow instructions in this video to remove mounts using 18mm(2 bolts), and 15mm(3 bolts). Raising the engine with a floor jack position in the small spot between the oil pan, using a small wood block to pad the jack. • use a 3/8 Ratchet with a short pipe over the end( for leverage) to access the tensioner , and remove the belt from the pulley.. • remove the tire to access the Tensioner bolt. That why there’s a hole already there. In the body. The tensioner bolt(15mm) is accessed through here. It’s possible to reinstall the tensioner with your left hand while using your right hand to hold the tensioner in place with the tab position on the engine, while tightening the bolt with your left hand . .
Tensioner tool at harbor freight is $20 or use a 3/8 ratchet with a short metal or pvc pipe for leverage. I was able to do it thru the bottom with the pvc pipe.
The factory hole is meant to get to the mounting bolt for the tensioner to take it off for replacement. The correct way to pull back the tensioner is to take the flat serpentine tool and reach up from the crank pulley where the panel was taken off.
Hello thanks this helped but all I did was remove tire, push on side of lever with the car jack rod and I was able to fit in the belt with my other hand.
If anyone wants to know a MacGyver way to get r done, loosen the tension pulley, align the belt on everything except the alternator, use a 24" piece of 3/8" non-nylon braded rope with a handle tied at each end, put the rope through the belt JUST BEHIND THE ALTERNATOR PULLEY, and use it pull/wedge the belt onto the pulley, hand crank the motor to set the belt, retighten the tensioner and she's golden.
Dont you just wish the engineers would talk to each other! Would save the owners a lot of money on common vehicle maintenance! I ran my beater truck's belt for 150,000 miles just to see when it would break. It never did, just squeaked for the past few years when it was cold out. Swapped it out a few months ago due to it slipping on power steering pulley from lack of tension.
Well he got it. Thanks for the video. Great job. Sometimes we do things to make it easier. That hole will work great. Thank you again for sharing. You know what they say. Sharing is caring..😅
An access hole provided by GM would've been best just like an access panel over the fuel pump would save from having to drop the fuel tank to change the pump. Thanks for chiming in.
I’m a perfect world, yes. But drilling a hole for access is rediculous. Causing damage to someone’s vehicle because they think this is the right way……..😳
I mistook the audio equipment for a firearm. Got my attention quick lol. Looks like GM put the hole in the wrong place.a unibit would have helped out alot. Hope all is well with you big J. Cheers. Btw the USAF museum is a must for an airplane guy. 4 hangars, 1/4 mile end to end.
Stupid take, automotive engineers are 10fold better at repairing and fixing cars because they quit literally designed and built them. The fact that i have to explain that is crazy. The people with 2 years training of essentially adult Legos vs the people who design and construct the legos and diagrams ,and the owner manual ,and the computers, and sensors, and all the other complicated shit in your car. not everything is simple like you .If you’re to much of brokie to take it to the manufacturer and to much of a simpleton to figure it out on your own then you should just walk your bum ass to your nearest gas station with your styrofoam cup and start begging; but sure company should hire less quality people and pay them to learn from scratch to become and engineer. 1000iq here, lol just so they do exactly what the already established engineer are doing. Cars are setup for a reason dumbass, don’t u ever in your life disrespectful the people who make your life easy again. “pushing pencils” “pushing pencils” retard
@@lolsunnyd475 Speaking of stupid, before pretending to be such an intellectual, you should concern yourself with your inadequate knowledge of proper grammar, and spelling, be better schooled in your understanding of the English language.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 lmao that's why you don't have mechanics that watch this shyt to learn anything. Should've went up top with a serpentine belt tool and put the last tought part of the belt on up top where you don't need to drill holes in a uni body frame 😢
Yeah, man. I wouldn't do this on a customer's car. You're right. No real mechanic would watch, much less, comment on my content. Thanks for watching and commenting!

He removed mounts on this video?
@@joeysanchez5926 no... lmao
Just change mine on 2012 Chevy Equinox LT and it already have that hole feel so greatfull, thanks for the video helps me a lot

The wrench he was using would have also fit in there too.
instructions not clear, made a hole in my engine and now it won't start
Could happen!
God I hope you're kidding lol
Hey I got a friend their belt came off as well and all their pulleys are covered in oil as well where was it leaking oil at
Front timing cover seal. Not as bad as the rear main seal but the harmonic balancer bolt is a bear to get off. Be warned.
Hello thanks this helped but all I did was remove tire, push on side of lever with the car jack rod and I was able to fit in the belt with my other hand.
Good video. But can you please put the year model and engine size in the title?
Good point!
Wouldn’t it be easier to just remove the air box?
I really don’t want to drill any holes...
Possibly. This car has been totaled so I'm not 100% sure.
I hate to criticize cuz you never know until you're in it right? But you got it done, even though I think it was baked LOL
I have a cuestion this its like an a Chevy Captiva 2014 kind similar?
Yes it is.

Golden advice!
fully engaged until he said "I am a little bit high" followed by drilling a hole in the vehicle.. hahahahahahaa good stuff
Did I actually say that??? It's been a minute. 😳 I'm 100% sure I wasn't. 😁

Lol. Sounds exactly like something I would do but not on wifey's car. ;)
What was the oil leak? Front crank seal?
That is correct. My 2014 Chevy Silverado had the same issue on the rear man seal. Thankfully it was replaced under warranty.
Well he got it. Thanks for the video. Great job. Sometimes we do things to make it easier. That hole will work great. Thank you again for sharing. You know what they say. Sharing is caring..😅
Use a 1" bore drill bit and I was done in 15 minutes.
Go man go!
Can you come fix mine lol
thanks for the smart idea making a hole like that it helps alot
What year is the equinox and would this same repair work on a Buick Verano?
2014. Not sure about the Buick.
Water will go through the hole you bored and now you have to worry about electrical
I guess I'm lucky in that my '05 Equinox with 190,000 miles on it doesn't leak oil yet.
Lucky you don't have a 2013
Doesn't leak but burns some though don't it
@@burns2899 Yep but it doesn't smoke yet.
hit 266000 on my 09 last week, amazing. i do have a pan leak though, likely gasket i lose maybe half qt in a month
Damn what a trooper
I am too fixin to attempt this
Go man go!
I know if I get an equinox with a hole there. It was his. 😂
That car was totaled in Oct. of 2019. You should see the mods I've done to #projectoddball.
Do NOT drill a hole for Christ sake. It’s a 3/8drive ratchet or breaker bar for the tensioner…….

Gotta change the belt on my girlfriend’s car.
Can’t wait to send her this video😈
Do not follow this guys instructions!....should of lost the entire video
Thanks for watching!

No doubt! I've worked the (that) F-111 when I was in England. Thanks for sharing!
J. Hunto's Garage when i find a kit i will paint it in the color scheme of your choice👍
I'm a little bit high.....
Leak proof your holes you drilled
Please tell me you don't work on vehicles for a living 😂
Now way man! How could you tell? ;) But I was an aircraft weapons system specialist at one time many moons ago. Now I just DIY my stuff.
Wow this why hacks use youtube.
