  • This video shows our students what to do if they fail an online exam and the process that they will need to work through to set up their second attempt of the exam.
Hi, Scott here from GBCTechtraining. In today’s video I will review what happens if you fail one of our online exams and the steps that you need to go through to retake that exam.
So lets recap a little bit. To obtain your GBC Technician Certificate you must successfully pass all the modules in your program. Specifically, this means that you must achieve a grade of at least 60% on all of the exams.
So what happens if you fail a module exam?
Well, first at all, don’t get upset about it. You will have a chance to fix it.
A failed exam is an indicator that you had not completely mastered the module content and were not adequately prepared to write the exam.
This can easily happen to any student who gets a bit ahead of themselves; particularly when studying complex material like ours.
What is really important is that you master the material now. You will need to go back to the module learning materials, and study with them until you feel really confident that you understand the module and then come back and retry the exam. Check out our related blog entitled Top 4 Strategies on how to Prepare for Your Online Exams on our blog, just here www.gbctechtraining.com/blog, for more tips on how to do this.
So, here is the process that you’ll need to work through to set up your second attempt to the exam.
    1. When you fail the exam you immediately get an email from the GBC marking server, asking you to contact the Student Support Center for further assistance. It will look like this.
    2. You then need to call the Support Center at the 800 number, here 1-866-279-1459 and discuss your exam results with the Support Advisor.
    3. The Support Advisor will give you feedback and suggestions on how to best prepare for the second attempt, including addressing any specific content or technical questions that you might have.
    4. The Support Advisor, will then “reset” the exam in our testing system, making it available for you rewrite, through the Support Center.
    5. Once you’ve completed your additional preparation, you can then rewrite the exam at any time.
There is no cost associated with rewriting an exam, the first time, but if you fail an exam a second time, you will then be asked to pay an additional administrative fee of $30 to have it reset.
So that`s it. Good luck with your exams!
