He's literally the reason I took rap seriously in high school. All I wanted to do was make whole sentences rhyme with whole sentences and have multiple meanings while matching syllable combinations. And I'll always want to break down verses.
I seen elzhi a month ago at dilla fest here in detroit. He performed last and stayed and took pictures with everyone. Good dude, one of my favorite rappers.
Talking in my sleep is one of my favourite tunes ever. Elmatic is unbelievable also. His voice just sounds amazing, a pure emcee in the mould of Nas or Rakim
Elzhi is *MASSIVELY* underrated, he has spit some of the *ILLEST* verses over the years! Like his verses on Little Brother's song "Hiding Place," which is still super cold 😎🤙🏾
One of the most underrated MCs of all time. Elzhi's bar work was unlike anyone around that time. The reason he could never get over that hill because he was too underground. The game doesn't reward talent unless you have some kind of personality or gimmick attached to you. This was a time where ot really started to become like that and Elzhi couldn't ever get with that plan. He was too hip hop for this business. Elmatic was amazing. I still play it to this day. In fact, the instrumentals on that album even outshines the original.
@DfromBoston to show how limitless the patterns in music and poetry are. We study Shakespeare and Homer, this is the media that people of this time use to do the same thing. Homer wrote in iambic pentameter. Elzhi writes in patterns that are just as complex.
I feel like his music is better than ever. When you don’t have the machine behind you, rapping like he does doesn’t make you millionaire though. I still get excited anytime he drops something.
Elzhi definitely has the sources to become way more bigger then he is.. I just feel like he holds himself back with his solo releases, but who knows what his plans are. All I know is though is that he definitely has a lot of fire stashed. I wish he would drop more mixtapes cuz his unreleased work is incredible.
Elzhi is a "mic murderer" . . . That "illmatic" album re-make he did "Elmatic" is an amazing album . . . Just as great of an album as "illmatic" itself
Elzhi and Lead Poison is what really convinced me to start writing raps his storytelling ability and rhyme schemes absolutely blew me away and I still take a lot of influence from him in my writing today
I've been through deep depression. That shit ain't no joke, man I know what it is when such thing fucks up your self-confidence and your ability to put in work when you need to. When I heard that was the reason for his lateness, I wasn't hard on him. I just wanted him to be alright. Lead Poison was not my favorite album that year, but I appreciated it nonetheless.
Elzhi is my 1A MC from Detroit. The number 1 IMO is Royce da 5'9". "I'm a maniac on tracks the way a train reacts/With smart bombs for dummies and dumb dumbs for brainiacs". Elzhi from Life's A Bitch Elmatic (Illmatic tribute)
Wow, I am actually happy to see this. ElZhi is in my top 5 emcees with Black Thought and I never hear anyone talk about him. Give this man his flowers now
I molded my lyrical style/technique from Elzhi ... He's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper ... ELzhi is a GOAT! "Brag Swag" & "Come Get It" are my favorites off top
I just hope that when he finally hangs the mic up, that he’s financially/mentally stable and completely satisfied with the body of work he left behind. Much love , Elzhi !
Elzhi is cold. His version of Illmatic is one of my favorite examples of rapping and lyricism in rap. I can see how Elzhi isn't everybody's cup of Kool Aid but I like the taste.
It’s interesting that one of the criticisms is being complex and “hard to follow”. I think one of his skills is that his lines do connect well and he is actually easy to follow, u just gotta listen. But maybe if u are comparing him to new rappers he would be considered hard.
Easily one of Detroits finest...as well as rap itself. He's a legend in his own right and should be doing cameos everywhere, but his skills probably intimidate others. Might make your favorite rapper look bad. Respect
Can you do a stunted growth video of rapper Techniec? He is from Long Beach, California and did music with M.C. Eiht and Mack 10. He was signed to Hoo Bangin records which was Mack 10's record label. He came out in the late 1990's or so. He was supposed to really blow up. The dude can flow. He was in the LBC Crew and had a song on the "Thin Line Between Love and Hate " movie soundtrack.
I'm from Long Beach I know a couple of people who were in a group with Techniec called dynamic.. yeah I would like to hear why he didn't make it either
I was first introduced to Slum Village by my younger brother back in 99 and have been a fan every since, but Elzhi joining the group was like a growth spurt in a way....He complimented their sound but also challenged Batin and T3's lyrical content.....I hate that he left the group but appreciate his material.....I'm a Hip Hop head to the fullest and I have El in my top 5 of lyricists for real for real.
In the words of the great emcee and lyrical poet Germaine Williams aka Canibus...Elzhi is "an artist in an ignorant world". The problem is this era of music is catering to people with short attention spans and even worse limited comprehension abilities. Had Elzhi rose to prominence during the mid to late 90's he probably would've received the respect he truly deserves. It is a damn shame because he truly is gifted and arguably among the best to ever pick up a pen. Nowadays it's more about gimmicks than lyrics..he's about a decade and a half too late. Smh.
Slum village album villa manifesto was the best last album, why, it's the album that featured Elzhi T3 Baatin J Dilla Illa J Was the last best slum village album
How I missed this video I don't know I'm a huge Elzhi fan still listening to alot of his music he helped me with my poetry writing with that Preface album and this mixtape after that album can't remember the name it was the first time I heard Danny Brown song was called Contra
Feel like he was coming up during the time of hip hop's shift there were a lot of rappers from this era similar to him that could rap circles around cats. The crazy places like BET will never promote them. I remember BET refused to promote Little Brother's Album when it dropped instead focusing on Jeezy's Album Thug Motivation 101. Jeeyz's album was fire but we have enough gangsta rappers out here and the streets was gonna support Jeezy regardless And Then What and Go Crazy were straight bangers.
How do you rate eLZhi's rap skill? Curious
*He's SUPER nice!*
top 30 skill wise
If Nas is 9..elzi is 6
👍❤, Pretty good rapper, he has talent..
He's in my top 20 doa
He's literally the reason I took rap seriously in high school. All I wanted to do was make whole sentences rhyme with whole sentences and have multiple meanings while matching syllable combinations. And I'll always want to break down verses.
One of the best lyricist in the game. Without question. Elzhi's pen scorches 90 percent of the dudes in the game right now. "Elmatic" is a masterpiece
I seen elzhi a month ago at dilla fest here in detroit. He performed last and stayed and took pictures with everyone. Good dude, one of my favorite rappers.
Dope✊🏼

Mannnn smh ikr they went nasty on that song.
That was a beautiful record
After a little brother concert like 15 years ago I told Phonte I loved hiding place and he looked at me like he was pissed 😂
He also wrecked havoc on a verse he had on a Ghostface joint called "Gunshowers".
Yes, I was about to say the same shit.
Yes finally, been calling on Elzhi for a while now. Please do one on Ras Kass or Killah Priest next please.

ELZhi is one of the greatest rappers of all time
Best lyricist to ever come from Detroit.

We need that Elzhi/Phonte collab album
When I was younger I swore it was gonna happen
What we need that for??
@@cactu5jack at the time back in the day they were two of the best emcees the thought of it was cool.
One of the best ever! He's one of the guys that sets the lyricism bar high
Elzhi rhymes should be studied in universities because of how intricate they are.
Exactly how would that benefit society?
@DfromBoston to show how limitless the patterns in music and poetry are. We study Shakespeare and Homer, this is the media that people of this time use to do the same thing. Homer wrote in iambic pentameter. Elzhi writes in patterns that are just as complex.

He also has two albums that are confirmed to be coming out soon... One with Khrysis and another with Just Blaze & Atrak
Elzhi's position is criminal. "Pros and Cons" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
If anyone has the chance, you have to listen to his album where he raps over Nas instrumentals! My God did he kill it
elmatic...
There’s only 2 rappers that I know that did illmatic proper justice…and that’s Elzhi and Fashawn.
Elzhi is so creative with the words. It’s a sad shame he’s not on everyone’s top lists
He and black thought, Nas and Punisher were the rappers that inspired me the most.
Great choices

Way too underrated! Supreme storytelling, delivery, metaphors, similes, breath control...
He's one of the reasons why I still listen to hip-hop
Bro, your channel should have a million subs. Incredible work!
You touched my heart with dis 1… Dj Ko and East brought me to Elzhi!!! Shout out to that whole group
definitely one of the best lyricists. his first 2 albums still get regular play. way underrated
Easily one of Detroits finest...as well as rap itself. He's a legend in his own right and should be doing cameos everywhere, but his skills probably intimidate others. Might make your favorite rapper look bad. Respect
Best rapper from DETROIT PERIOD
His song with the producer Dela “My N--“ is a masterpiece. Top tier production, top tier storytelling, and it can bump in the whip.

Slum Village Detroit Deli is still the ish to me. That's about it.

Yo now this is a real treat dude is so unappreciated
Elzhi is nasty with the pen and bars. I can hear the influenced of Nas and Kool G Rap in him.

This brotha Elzhi grabbed a whole new fan base for Slum V. Got a dedicated playlist called Slum Dillage
I'm blown away by his freestyle
He is one of my all time favorites
His iambic pentameter games was CRAZY!
If haven't already do video on ace hood. If so big thanks.
Super under-rated
Oh my god bruh get to the story about ELZHI, I don’t need a 2-3 minute breakdown of what hip hop is I wanna know about HIS story
El is one of the best period!
If you dont have time to bust down ELZHIS bars then you a simpleton. He has more replay value than damn near anyone else.
He better than everybody but never gets talked about!
Facts!
People want to say wayne is the goat with those weak nursery rhymes. Nas , Black thought and Elzhi rap circles around the gremlin
I nearly worked will El several times. I'll leave this convo at. Much respect to him.
been my favorite since way back
He’s amazing
