I think too many people are afraid to admit that their music can bring out emotions. I am not afraid of the fact I enjoy the emotions of their music. Respect for being honest.
..... the contortionist doesnt do anything musically or vocally stimulating though (since language came out they got very boring). not on the level a band like tesseract does.
TesseracT are really on point. I admit I had a hard time digesting them, the music is sometimes too atmospheric, experimental and technical for my taste of metal, but lady, OH, when they finally got me (I think it was with the song Nocturne), I am becoming a superfan lol
ye, same. You really have to get into them! I´ve seen them my first time like 4 years ago, a friend took me and i didn´t know them to begin with. I told him i didn´t like them, back then. 3 Years later he took me again and i loved them! It just took me a bit to get used to their style, now i am kinda inspired by how emotional they are (for me)
Same here! I didn’t quite like them but didn’t really dislike them. Then I listened to altered state which clicked with me and now they’re one of my favorite along with The Contortionist! Do you have a favorite album??
The Altered State record was really my "Ah-hah" moment with them. I couldn't stop listening to it over and over. The atmosphere was just so damn brilliant on that one. I realize it was with Ashe on vocals instead of Dan, but it doesn't change how absolutely mind-blowing that album is.
It's not background music and it's not the super cerebral "what the fuck is going on?" type of music you get in other bands. They have a very "pop" style of vocal sometimes but they rely a lot more on atmosphere and "feeling" as well as the groove created by the bass and "djenty" guitar leads they incorporate. It's quite an interesting mix but it does require that you let it take you along for the ride. Rather than really listening intently it's meant to be "felt" to a large extent.
Daniel Tompkins is one of my favourite vocalists alongside Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis and Einar Solberg from Leprous. His work with Earthside's A Dream in Static is just incredible.
@@Neroese1 His singing is very, very competent. A lot like Mikael Akerfeldt...technically excellent, but doesn't blow my socks off. But then you combine that with his growls. Holy fuck. He kills that shit in the live performances, too.

I love this video. You rarely see people getting touched to tears by music. Gave me shivers. Also, i missed this live version of Hexes, so i'm glad i cached up.The clear explanation about what a vocal 'mix' is topped it perfectly. Keep up the good work, Beth!
YES!! I barely see anyone reacting to Tesseract and I don't understand it. They are a great band and Daniel (who is a vocal coach himself) is just amazing. I'm so glad you liked it :) PS. I agree with the others who have suggested Leprous. The vocalist Einar is very talented, as are all the other members. In particular, I have a soft spot for Bard, the drummer ;)
Leprous - Slave live at rockerfeller please!! So happy someone finally does TesseracT, i'm learning this song on the drums right now, i love it. Seeing LeProus & TesseracT this weekend too! :)
Martin Grech is my favourite male voice. So haunting, so much emotion and his music and lyrics are just beautiful. Criminal that he's not released more music. Check out Ashes to Embers or Sun.
Oh my.. when I head on to YT to hear this song again (the original video), i always got those tears in my eyes, and then I remember you and watch this video, and I got tears in my eyes again when I see you have tears in your eyes. These guys just know how to get you. I got this warm pressure on my chest over and over again, and I feel with you so much. Love it.
Really enjoyed this reaction video. One of the best ones I've seen in a while. Not going to put in a request, just going to soak it up, TesseracT are a lucky band to have such fantastic vocalists.
This is the only song Martin sings on, Dan Tompkins is the vocalist for TesseracT. Dan is amazing on his own, but add Martin and it's just ridiculously amazing.
So glad you looked in to TesseracT. They basically had three vocalists in total. Daniel Tompkings, Elliot Coleman and Ashe O Hara. Daniel Tompkins returned to the band and this is him singing.
Dan is amazing! Have you checked out his other projects- White Moth Black Butterfly, and Zeta?? Great stuff! I’d also recommend a band called Leprous with a fantastic singer called Einar Solberg...rest of the band is killer too!
Here's a song for some strong feels- Monochrome (Pensive) by The Contortionist. TesseracT and The Contortionist are my two top favorite bands. They are both absolutely in a class of their own.
your reaction to this video, especially when dan first started singing, made me so happy. to see someone else have such a similar reaction to the amazing and compositional talent of these guys. your videos are awesome... keep up the good work!
Even though I love Daniel, I wish Beth listened to the live version of Of Matter with Ashe O'Hara. There just something about that album and the way Ashe completes the sound... Also, yes, anything by Leprous.
I always preferred Dan, and his stage presence over Ashe, BUT, Altered State is my favorite album from them. So, this is a bit of a conundrum for me, lol. And yeah, that album is almost perfect with Ashe's vocals and the atmospheric music.
@@sicboi80 Ashe killed it in the studio, but the problem was replicating those tonnes of layers of vocals live. That's where Dan truly wins. He's just as consistent live as he is in studio. Both great vocalists in their own right though.

Love watching the way the music and the singing just washes over you . The singer and the backing vocals were like a dance. Thank you for this one, I haven't heard it before...
I have watched this reaction video so many times. The song/performance is so great, but seeing your emotional reaction to it makes it that much better.
Thank you Beth for a great review. If you loved Hexes you should do Of Matter by Tesseract with Ash O'Hara on vocal or Tourniquet with Daniel Tompkins. Both are great vocalists
seems that no-one in this comments thread has mentioned Martin Grech. he's amazing. I bought his first album off the strength of the single that was used in a Lexus advert. if you get a chance check him out on his own, he's a vocal gymnast with a sense of musicality that blows the mind! (seen him live a couple of times too and he's just as good!)
Great reaction. I love how you break down the specifics of the vocal work...I feel like I've learned so much from your videos. Keep up the great work Beth!!!!
Those vocals from about 5:50 are inspired by a classical Hindustani raaga called Bhairavi. He must have picked it up during his stint with the Skyharbor project.
Great request by a great band...I must've watched this same performance a dozen times over the last couple years. And I love the number of requests for Leprous - Slave! I've watched that performance a ton, as well. If we eventually get reactions to that, Karnivool, Caligula's Horse, and The Dear Hunter, it would be so cool.
I love how you can see the instant frisson hits (2:33-2:34) and then the onset of physiological responses. The fact that music can do this is absolutely magical.

Tompkins and Grech kill it on this one. Its hard for anyone to stand up to Daniel (like playing guitar next to Tosin Abasi). but Martin really stands out as a distinct and meaningful part next to Daniel here.
Your facial reactions are so expressive that I feel like your on a rollercoaster of emotion going from surprised to sadness to amazement every single second. So different to other reaction channels. So fun. Instant Sub.
I think Slave or Rewind would be better. I love Contaminate me and Ihsahn, don't get me wrong, but I think a song where Einar sings solo would fit better here
Oh man how did I not know Tesseract did a song with Martin Grech?! I saw him live in the early 2000's at Exeter Cavern and it was equal parts haunting and mesmerising. Open Heart Zoo is a song that will stay with me forever.
Lucky enough to hear them both perform this live in person, needless to say they absolutely nailed it, one of my favorites, the chorus still gives me chills.
Thanks for the reaction and shoutout Beth! It was everything I hoped it would be Haha very interesting as always! Keep being awesome! 😉 Plus, I feel honored that my request got some tears flowing. Always glad to spread the music, BEAUTIFUL!
2:28 and 3:13 is me every time I listen to a Tesseract song. So freakin emotional! Best moments in any of your reaction videos. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one getting super emotional when hearing Tesseract's music. I would love to see more Tesseract reaction videos.
Daniel Tompkins is one of my favorite singers. he can put so much emotion in his singing. When i saw that you reacted to him i was kinda jumping in my chair. Please react to more songs from Tesseract! They are great.
Honestly never mind Tesseract, go and check out Martin Grech’s solo stuff, i recommend the song open heart zoo as it will probably be right up your ally vocal wise. He wrote and recorded the album when he was 17, hes an unsung genius...
Beth! You should check out Tesseract again! They just put out a new single and Daniel Tompkins has gotten even better. You will hear new things from him!
Each djent band has their own kind of ambience, some makes you imagine about space, some about stars and skies, some oceans and seas, some about winds, some fantasy landscapes, some about romance, some about history, some just calm and gentle, some about chaos, some about darkness and creepy forests and just so much more.
I've subscribed after watching this video :) I love Tesseract, vocals are amazing. I listened to Daniel's podcasts about vocals. Very impressive voice!
TESSERACT - my favourite fucking band! So glad you stumbled on them Beth! Absolutely loved every bit of that breakdown. Dan Tompkins is the man, and he is also a vocal coach, just like you. You should check his channel out on TH-cam, pretty sick playthrough videos of his own songs from a bunch bands he's been in over the years. And you should react to "Tesseract - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios)" next, its an absolute must. Has Ashe O'Hara on vocals during his short stay with the band. Stellar stuff, and you'll love it even more, if you loved this.
Martin Grech is awesome! Out of all the singers who were inspired by Jeff Buckley, he's the one that sounds the most like Jeff. Open Heart Zoo, Venus and The Giving Hands are some of my favorite songs of his. There's a lovely live orchestral version of Open Heart Zoo on his channel.
I'm so ecstatic. 😍 Mainly because I've given you a solo vocal video of theirs before, mostly LOL Edit: Oh and i spent the whole time like: she has no idea what's coming. Sorry I'm fangasming. 😂
If you love this band you will also love The Contortionist. I'd love to see a you do a reaction video to their song "The Source - Rediscovered." Their vocalist is one of the best vocalists in this genre and his performance in that song is absolutely breathtaking.
I was waiting for you to react to this band, made me smile seeing your reaction (you can't fake that), they have another song Phoenix recorded in the same studio. Dan Tompkins is easily my favourite vocalist, he has alot of colabs out there aswell.
I love the in-depth analysis you give on every video Beth, as well as the theory you're imparting with us. I don't always understand it 100% (heck, I think even 80% is already pushing it) but it's really nice and refreshing to see someone with proper knowledge not just look at a video and say "yeah, it's pretty good," but you actually try and explain what is going on to us, the common peasants. Keep doing you!
I think that it is beautiful that someone who is a professional gets emotional listening to a song! That what music should do to a person. It isn’t all about technique it’s about the feel to it.

it's both Tompkins and Grech. Dan's the band's regular singer; Martin was simply a guest on this track.

Is there something I should know
Of the colours that you show
I remember those words
In the back of my mind
There is an old phantom
It isn't a secret this mind's shrouded in history
It isn't a secret this mind spirals in disarray
It isn't a secret this mind shatters in mystery
It isn't a secret I find terror in memory
Come close
Don't be afraid
It's stranger than you think
Desperately opiate weary
Feaverish host to us teary eyed
History hexes us
History hexes us
Don't look Don't think
Don't feel Don't move
Don't breathe Don't make a sound
It lives It breaths
In my conscious mind
(Rosebud don't change)
It isn't a secret this mind's shattered in history
It isn't a secret this mind spirals in disarray
It isn't a secret this mind shatters in mystery
It isn't a secret I find terror in memory
I live and breathe again
Through these gory locks don't you dare forget them
Don't you dare!
Don't you dare!
History hexes us
I breathe again!
History hexes us
I live again. 🤔🎶🎶
That was superb! I love your videos, have been watching for 2h straight! So much insight! This is brilliant. Also I love your bright personality, it is very easy to laugh or cry along with you!
LEPROUS - Contaminate Me (Live At Rockefeller Music Hall) Pleeeeease!!!!
or Slave for the sick instrumentals as well
I think Slave or Rewind would be better. I love Contaminate me and Ihsahn, don't get me wrong, but I think a song where Einar sings solo would fit better here
Slave or Flood from the same show would be amazing. Contaminate Me is basically fry screaming.
Or Acquired Taste ^^
Any Leprous really!
Oh man how did I not know Tesseract did a song with Martin Grech?! I saw him live in the early 2000's at Exeter Cavern and it was equal parts haunting and mesmerising. Open Heart Zoo is a song that will stay with me forever.
DANIEL TOMPKINS - CONCEALING FATE PART 3: THE IMPOSSIBLE - TESSERACT - LIVE VOCAL
I saw these guys live in Sydney about six months ago, was by far the best gig I've ever been to, Daniel is perfect live.
Martin Grech’s been doing own his own thing a long time. Check out his album Open Heart Zoo & title track. Amazing voice.
YES!!! I'm so glad you did song, it's one of my favorites by them!!
I would be glad to see you reacting to Parabol/Parabola by Tool. Magnificent experience!
I agree! Would be amazing
YES!!
Beth - your channel is so refreshing! I love your positive and bubby personality. Keep it up 😀
15 seconds in... Starts crying... Welcome to metal darling.
Lucky enough to hear them both perform this live in person, needless to say they absolutely nailed it, one of my favorites, the chorus still gives me chills.
Ill jump on the Leprous hype train, go for "stuck" or "From the flame", some newer ones
+1 for Stuck!
@@alexreinking i feel like Stuck is far too underrated
the full version of stuck is a beauty
Thanks for the reaction and shoutout Beth! It was everything I hoped it would be Haha very interesting as always! Keep being awesome! 😉
Plus, I feel honored that my request got some tears flowing.
Yeah, I'll bet she'd feel Tourniquet!
Daniel Tompkins is one of my favorite singers. he can put so much emotion in his singing. When i saw that you reacted to him i was kinda jumping in my chair. Please react to more songs from Tesseract! They are great.
Great reaction. I'm gonna have to jump on the Leprous hype train as well, since they're my favorite band. I'll suggest Slave (live at Rockefeller).
I'm here for Martin Grech 💜
TesseracT - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studio)
My absolute favorite band
Leprous - Slave (live), please.
Honestly never mind Tesseract, go and check out Martin Grech’s solo stuff, i recommend the song open heart zoo as it will probably be right up your ally vocal wise. He wrote and recorded the album when he was 17, hes an unsung genius...
Love this, would also love some Bjork! Maybe a live version of "Hyper-ballad"?
That little change in key after the bridge always makes me emotional. This song is amazing and Dan is one of my favourite vocalists.
Have you listened to Weeping Hour? Basically a Christian cross between Messhuggah and Oh Sleeper. One of the newest additions to my Djent library
Gojira - Global Warming (live at Silver Cord Studios)
I've subscribed after watching this video :)
I love Tesseract, vocals are amazing. I listened to Daniel's podcasts about vocals. Very impressive voice!
I wished she listened to the Studio version. That's my Favorite.
These guys are INCREDIBLE!!
For your own pleasure if you want a pure vocal experience, go and listen to D. Tompkins' recording of Allure with his other band Sky Harbor
The ending to his cover is unreal
This next!! Daniel Tompkins - Celestial (Live Rehearsal) Skyharbor
White Moth Black Butterfly is fantastic for just showing what Daniel can do. Allure is a fantastic song by them
Martin Grech is awesome!
Mainly because I've given you a solo vocal video of theirs before, mostly LOL
Edit: Oh and i spent the whole time like: she has no idea what's coming.
Sorry I'm fangasming. 😂
Me too! It was fun to see her experience this. :)
I'm sure you've listened to Martin Grech since making this video but oh my god , he is epic. like proper epic.
The acoustic version of Open Heart Zoo... ♥️

If you love this band you will also love The Contortionist. I'd love to see a you do a reaction video to their song "The Source - Rediscovered." Their vocalist is one of the best vocalists in this genre and his performance in that song is absolutely breathtaking.
Incredible! I love motivational and inspiring music like this. Makes me want to be better in anything I'm doing.
Leprous - Acquired Taste (Live at rockefeller) Dont do contaminate me please. Would rather hear some thoughts on the actual vocalists style.
I think that it is beautiful that someone who is a professional gets emotional listening to a song! That what music should do to a person. It isn’t all about technique it’s about the feel to it.
You need to do Spencer Sotelo from Periphery! Stranger Things is probably their best song.
yesssss he shines on that one. He's insane on their new song Reptile too, haven't listened to the rest of the album yet though
Ugh, I love this performance so much!
