Charlie Berens, self renowned Winter Fitness Expert, takes his client, Taylor Calmus aka Dude Dad, through a rigorous winter training routine. As Charlie puts it, no one needs to know how to do 50 sit ups but they do need to have the endurance to shovel, snowblow, and ice fish to survive the winter.

Plenty of warm clothes, long underwear, boot socks, below zero sleeping bags, blankets, quilts, and make sure that the larder is full of food that you can eat without heating it. (Canned goods, granola bars, dry cereal, snacks) Don't forget to have an emergency stash of water on hand! If you can install an alternative heat source, do it as soon as possible. He is a grad of UW Madison's journalism school and was even invited to and spoke at the grad ceremony of a later class - the videos of the short and long / complete speech is available on his channel - it's actually really good. I think of it often actually - he talks about being skeptical but not cynical. His manitowoc minute character also starts off the speech.

I moved from Texas to Colorado 5 years ago. Charlie, I need your training. I still struggle with plowing the driveway. AND I've never been ice fishing.

One thing I've never heard you mention, and that is good German Wisconsin summer sausage. There's a lot of crappy summer sausage made in Chicago, Cincinnati, and other out of state places. But nothing can compare to the sausages from the Wisconsin Sausage Company made in Sheboygan. Summer sausage isn't just a Christmas holiday treat --- a brown bag special good all year round is a summer sausage sandwich on home made bread --- yum!

You must be itchin' for a fight. There are things people in this space JUST. DO. NOT. SAY. Hold onto your palm trees - the comments you might get are not going to be pretty. Wait - only someone with frozen north (or Texas) cabin fever would write a comment like this in this space . You know - just to stir the pot. I'm on to you!

I have it on the highest authority that Hawaii doesn’t have:
      1) ice fishing
      2) walleyes
      3) snow angels
It’s a tough tradeoff but hang in there and keep ‘er movin! 😁
