Thanks to your video my DH decided to give me an early Mother's Day surprise of a Zebco 33 Platinum. One of the best presents he's ever given me. Again, THANKS.
The trick to braided line working right is to reel it on with pressure, just hook it to your porch after you've spooled it up and pull all the line off, and wind it up really tight. No more problems
I got both the bullet and 33 platinum now. And i have caught 5+ pounder catfish on both. I can say that both these reels do their job. Thanks to your reviews i feel like i made the right choices! Fish on!
I just picked up one of these rods today in the 6'10" and will pair with the Platinum 33. Only thing I did go overboard and will be adding new ceramic beings for the Platinum 33 just for the fun of it and I got the bearings for free so why not give it a try. After watching your video it looked like a nice combo and just a lot of fun to fish with. Thanks for the cool video.
I've always wanted to try those ceramic bearings out..so you'll have a super tuned 33. That's awesome. Thanks for stopping by and hope your new combo catches you some fish!
Excellent 👌 review.. You are very helpful and have taken great care in reviewing and getting to know these reels ..your the only one who really covers these reels in depth.. keep up the great work thank you... P.S. because of you, I've bought three zebco reels 👍
I have 2 Diawa Gold Cast II and my Fathers old Johnson Spin Cast Reels. He really loved that Reel. I haven’t used those reels since I bought my first Spinning Reel. NowI have 11 Spinning Reels 1 Mitchell, 1 Shimano, 7 Pflueger’s, 2 Diawa’s with soon to be 3 Diawa’s as my Pflueger’s fail. I must say My Diawa’s are amazing Reels. The Pflueger’s are not what they used to be. I have 3 Bass Casting Tods that are just lying around not being used because I just can’t see myself fishing with Spin Casting or a Casting Reel. I just like my Spinning Reels so much I just can’t picture myself changing. But I do like your videos. You do a classy job.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing! In my opinion, spinning reels are a superior design and all you ever need. Spincast reels do work and their ease of use makes them desirable to a lot of folks. However, they'll never reach spinning reels in terms of performance, durability and style.
Great Video as usual! I like the new Platinum reel but I do miss the " Quick-Change Spool" option. On the other hand the new model have a much more smoother feeling when retrieving the line than its predecessor and is a good option if you dont want to spend your money on the Bullet.
The generation # is on the bottom of the mount. If you want the bait alert, you can buy the standard 33 and upgrade it with ball bearings. It will have a plastic mounting bracket but it is a very strong plastic
@@CastFromTheHip outfishing13 describes how to “supertune” a 33 and tells how to order the correct bearings (the last few generations use the same bearing). He has a different video for each generation. There are slight differences between the generations in some of the processes of disassembling the cog shafts. Got to pay special attention to how the anti reverse comes apart. It can be a challenge to get the anti reverse back together. He makes it look easier than I find it to be.
Review a 33 micro. Great fun in ultra or microlight fishing applications. I caught stock trout with a trigger spin in a twig of a pole and loved every second of it.
I steal the setup I bought for my daughter all the time, trigger spin on a walmart special $10 light rod, it's awesome for panfish. So easy to use in all weather conditions, which works since I'm south of Seattle.
Could you do in depth review of the zebco 202 & 404? it seems unnecessary but I feel like you'll make it very informative and probably better than other reviews on TH-cam
I have an old Zebco 33 max I use in salt water and the spinner head rusted and was abraiding my new line. I reached out to Zebco and they sent me a new spinner head. I really don;t like this reel much but I catch more fish with it than many of my other reels and it is great for taking non anglers along on a fishing trip. It's my lucky Zebco rod. None of my other rods have that lucky feeling.
Haha a lucky reel is a lucky reel. Thanks for sharing. The Omega Pro wasn’t my favorite reel, but it caught me the biggest lake trout of my life so hey. Thanks for stopping by!
I'm old, I've used baitcasters all my life, my favorite is still spincast, in my opinion, Zebco needs to put all their time and money in perfecting the 33 model, and just be done with it!
My wife's been using the 33 MAX for a year now. I've tried getting her on spinners and baitcasters but she's good with the spincasters. I recently got tired of the dirty looks from "I'm a real fisherman" bro's so I took my baitcaster off and put a Zebco 888 on my 8'6" casting rod. The best baitcaster doesn't mean shit if you can't finesse a bait let alone present it correctly.
That’s awesome your wife is sticking to her spincast. The main reason I use spincast reels is to troll fishing bros when I catch fish with them haha. My buddy takes a barbie spincast rod out and out-fishes everyone on the river lol. Zebco 888 will get it done!
I have a bullet, a 33 platinum, 33 max bill dance and a pink 33 for my wife 😂 I learn a lot from your videos! Thank you. Is it easy to upgrade a 33 regular?
i enjoyed your video about zebco....sir if you don't mind...there's a man on you tube call outfishing 13...that beef up zebco reels new and vintage one's...watch his video's he's knows what he's doing.........thanks
I think it is a great freshwater reel. I wish they would make a good saltwater reel in that size. Currently the only ones I've found to last in the salt are the 808 Salt fisher and the 404 which are both bigger than I prefer. Maybe the new Delta will hold up in the salt?
I would prefer the platinum to have the standard anti reverse / bait clicker system. Replace bushings with bearings on the standard 33 and you would get almost the same thing, minus the metal body. I fish for cat. I want a bait clicker.
Good videos as always. Obviously I'm assuming you like the bullet and omega pro better than the platinum, but which do you like better, the omega pro or the bullet?
I have one these platinum reels and i love it! I broke the zebco rod that i have it on and im looking at one of the Lews speed stick rods that you have yours on. What length and power is that one?
I recently bought the 33 platinum and the delta which is a step down on the omega. The delta is nicer visually and handling but I prefer the platinum due to the line retrieval rate much faster. I have only played with these so far and not caught any fish yet so no comments on line hanging up
My wife likes her regular 33 over the pflueger pres. I have the delta and if not for its slowish reel its a great reel. The O Pro and Bullet are a lot more money, and they have the oscilation of the spool which is important. You can catch fish and a stick and rope, but I guess its all about budget. I would recommend the new Delta coming out for 2023. Its cheaper than the top models but still a super smooth top of the line reel.
The reason Zebco doesn't recommend using braid on these, Isn't because the reel won't work with it. But continued use will wear grooves in the pick up pins, and spinner cone. There's no good reason to use braid with these reels anyway. They are designed to run mono.
Price update. These go for $30 now. Tried 3 different walmarts and couldn't find one. Had to go to Northwoods and picked one up. Walmart does have a zebco 33 max now for $35. Seems pretty nice. Chonker tho
The only problem I've had with my 33 Platinum is that unless the handle is at 90 degrees to the axis of the rod during the cast my hand can come in contact with it causing the reel spool to rotate which deploys the pins resulting in a "hang up".
I've killed 2 platinum 33s in the last month or so. First one lasted about 50 fish and button broke. 2nd one lasted about 30 fish and broke. They work really well and i like them for kayak fishing. Need an aftermarket metal pushbutton though!!
@@CastFromTheHip Okay. Figures. They didn't have any of the platinum's where I went shopping so I'm just going to buy the bearings myself and super tune them. I'm wondering what's better though. Stainless steel ball bearings or ceramic bearings.
I don't get why the more expensive reels are not able to backreel. If you have never backreeled, your missing out on a whole different dimension of fishing.

@CastFromTheHip what pound fish can you catch with this do you think it could handle a 17lb fish
That’s a great detailed breakdown, nice job! 👍
I've been using my zebco 33 and it's been a fantastic reel.
@Ethan Yost I've used it too it seemed to be a pretty alright reel for the price

Never bonded with a spinning reel. The simple thumb flick and reel of spincasters makes them amazing.

I use the zebco 733 titanium in saltwater with no issues. They work pretty well for that and catfishing
Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Good to know about the 733 Titanium. Take care and good luck out there fishing!

The platinum has been good to me. I have caught carp up to 10lbs on it and it was flawless, only gripe is it scuffs easily and there’s no bite alert.
That's awesome! A bite alert would be nice.
You got the same rod and reel as me!
Let’s go
Awesome reel here, less than $30 on Amazon right now!

You should do a review of the new Zebco 33 Gold series and see how they compare to thsese
Nice review and I do love zebco products and I am getting a hell of a lot of hang ups.
Most hang ups is a result of having line that went on too loose and then after a catch the line digs down into the bundle.
Try respooling your reel.
Nice!
Good video..
Thanks

Do you think the 33 platinum gets close to the omega or omega pro or are they still a pretty large upgrade over the 33 platinum

The spincast is far superior to any other reel while kayak fishing
Thanks I was wondering about that now all I need is a kayak

How does the 33 Gold stack up to the 33 Platinum?
One fewer ball bearing in the gold and I don’t think the gold has the metal frame.
I'll stick to my 33l vintage or my shimano 2000 for light fishing
