Propex 1600 Compact Gas Heater Test, Wiring & Installation Guide

- Here is a short video covering the Propex 1600 Compact gas heater. The Propex Compact 1600 is a nice small unit ideal for camper van conversions or caravan installations. In the video I show the unit working, how to wire the Propex 1600 Compact unit up using instructions provided by Propex themselves and describe how to fit the unit in a van. Installing the Propex Compact 1600 unit is relatively simple requiring 2 holes being cut in the underside of the van to allow the propex 1600 compact to circulate intake and exhaust fumes to the outside of the vehicle meaning no condensation build up compared to internally burning heaters. The propex gas heater then just need boxing in wherever you want to fit it with a gas supply using copper piping directly to the propex 1600 gas heater.
I created this video to demonstrate both the unit working as I no longer need it but also to show anyone else who may have just purchased one of these or a similar unit how to wire and test it before fitting to ensure the unit works as it should. I hope you find the video useful.

There is a reason why these arw not sold anyomore...the were called " hot boxes" as they got very hot. They will also drain your battery

Hi nice vid mate, i was just wondering is there any reason why you couls not mount this under the van?
It is recommended to install inside but it could be mounted under the van I suppose, but you'd need to drill larger holes in the floor for the hot air to enter the van compared to the exhaust holes required to vent outside

Another thing, is the 2000 much better and worth the higher price?
I never got round to fitting this model, I bought it online then got offered a 2000 from a mate so I just tested this one and sold it on, the specs say the 2000 is warmed and uses less power so its worth it to a point, depends how much you'd use it, I've used the 2000 once since fitting it as haven't used the van much over winter but if you're savvy, you can get 2000's cheap on classifieds

Mine doesn't get warm that quick. It takes at least a minute. Mind you, it's not getting warm at all now. Not sure what's wrong with it..🤔🙄. Is it possible it's not getting enough power from the battery to ignite it?
You should hear it ignite, if it doesn't there may be a block in the gas line or low battery. If you have issues email Propex direct as they are very helpful even on older models
Also, mine doesn't turn off straight away. The fan keeps running even when I put the rocker switch in the middle position..
The fan will keep running for a couple of minutes to cool everything down inside the unit
