  • The Titleist T100 irons and the PING i59 irons are perhaps the best new players irons on the market in 2021. Each is designed to deliver workability and control for the better player, with some subtle technologies to add forgiveness.
    In this video, 2nd Swing's Thomas Campbell and Drew Mahowald use Trackman technology to compare the Titleist T100 irons and the PING i59 irons. Thomas and Drew analyze the Trackman data and provide their feedback on both the Titleist T100 irons and the PING i59 irons.

    The reason I swapped my i210 pings for these new T100 titleist is the distance dispersion. Flyers were costing me strokes. The dispersion pattern left to right is something you can improve with practice and work around mid round in my humble opinion. Plus the new T100 is an absolute masterpiece in the looks department.

    I love Ping but at this price point I don’t see many people going for these I59’s unless they just have to have the latest Ping gamer irons. There are a lot of great options in gamer iron category and I’m not sure outside of the mega spin what these irons offer to justify the extra cost.

    I think it's important to note that the stock shaft in the Ping i59 is the Project X LS, which is meant to bring that extra spin into a more manageable zone.

    • @station2station544
      @station2station544 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas is using the Px LS in this demo and they are spinning near 8000 which is excessive. It's a one-size-fits-nobody shaft. It's rated stiffer than the Dynamic Gold X7. They don't build heads to rely on a very specific shaft being used. They have to be prepared for the usual 50% of players on the PGA Tour putting X100 in them.

    In every test I have watched of the T100 it has the same distance consistency outcomes. That is more important to me than the left/right consistency, which is down to me. I really like the Taylormade P7MC and P770 but the T100 could be the "all things to all people" iron of the decade.

    Another great video, can you please compare these two irons to the Callaway Apex TCBs from both a performance and appearance perspective, I tested the TCBs recently and was super impressed but I haven't been able to test the T100s yet.

    The only reason I would take the i59 is if I was playing PGA greens every weekend. Not that the distance of the T100 sells me, but I’d rather have consistent distances. The i59 seems pretty demanding, and for the price point it is being outperformed by numerous clubs (like the ZX7 too).
    I just can’t see anyone struggling to holding greens with a CB like T100, JPX 921 Tour, or ZX7 @ 7000 rpm with a 7i and modern golf balls. i59 is beautiful nonetheless

    I really liked the T100 irons and wanted to like them the best. But I ended up liking the Ping G425’s the most out of the 4-5 different kinds I hit last week. I loved the AP2’s so I figured the T100’s would be for me. But, I just couldn’t hit a bad shot with the G425’s.

      Forgiveness is key, and the G425's really are not that much bigger and you can still work them. - Thomas

    how can you look at those circles and pick the ping? the t100 just needs a lie angle adjustment. the ping distances were not as consistent. the t100 also looks a lot better. and is cheaper. winner winner

    T100 hands down! Imagine it’s a 9 hole par 3 challenge, T100 would give you 8 GIRs vs 5-6 in Ping i59.

  • @TenPester
    @TenPester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    T100 front to back dispersion was much better. That is the sort of consistency that better players are looking for.

  • @justinstephenson9360
    @justinstephenson9360 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I suspect the i59 in power loft specs would have the same carry distance as the T100 but with maybe 300 rpm of spin more.
    Against that I love the consistency of the carry distance of the T100.
    If I was looking to replace my i210s, I think the T100s are the better iron especially as my angle of attack is typically closer to 3 down - the i59 might just have too much spin for me

  • @PartyPete199
    @PartyPete199 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No comparison. Titleist win that battle. Also feel,quality and price point. I would probably use T100s as I use AP2’s at the moment

    After watching the hitter hit the T100,100s & T200 he should hit T200's. Dispersion is bad for this hitter on the 100,100s. My question to you guys, what's the SPIN of the i59 with the shafted glued in?

  • @PrzemekBech
    @PrzemekBech ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing bothers me in the data set, a bit lower smash factor… looks like Thomas hit T100 a bit better for some reason. May this be the reason for distance difference? Based on this video one might say T100 is way better due to dispersion and distance. However when I see Mark Crossfields video with T100, i59 and Apex pro, the numbers are almost the same between these and even better for Ping a bit. Interesting how even create golfer himself delivers such differences. Also I was wondering how much difference is resulting from in store on mat vs on turf and grass testing…

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Results can for sure be player dependent and certain irons may benefit certain swing characteristics. I can tough on in store matt v grass. I see about 1000 rpm more spin and a steeper attack angle outside vs hitting off a mat - Thomas

  • @wilhen1
    @wilhen1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your conclusions regarding spin differences between the 2 clubs are a bit misleading. You were obviously warmed up and swinging harder during the 2nd set. As a result, the spin numbers on the T100 were very different from the 1st grouping. Throw out the first set of data and you have consistent numbers for the T100.

    Thomas, I'm also a picker. Do you have a tip to help me hit down more?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First off avoid hitting off mats. Some golfers will not hit down on the ball as much and try pick the ball of a mat (me included and it's unintentional). Try moving the ball back in your stance a little and feel like your hammering a nail into the ground rather than trying to help the ball in the air. - Thomas

    Why would you want a 7i spinning nearly 8k rpm. Your wedge will be off the charts spinny. Also when you talk standard deviation. 100 or so rpm between the two is absolutely minuscule. T100 a much better option there for me.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wouldn't. Once that spin is getting over 7000 rpm its too much. It would be a good club for a golfer that needs spin. If you already spin the ball a lot you will want to lean towards lower spinning models or less loft. - Thomas

    The standard lie angles are different? Ping sit 1* flatter?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. PING STD lie angle is 62* for the black dot, Titleist lie angle for a 7iron is 63*. We we're testing both at STD lie. - Thomas

  • @dudosmokokos

    The t100 is a little too upright. Definitely need to check your divots, lie angle in addition to your dispersion when you get fitted. That 7 iron should be 61 degrees lie angle.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All Titleist irons lie angle are 1* more upright than PING (7i 63* v 62*) I can tell you I have always played 1* upright or STD my entire golf career but a little flatter could be interesting. I enjoy my little draw - Thomas
