Good video! I’ve been a self employed, sole practitioner for 12 years so haven’t looked into salaries for a long time. I feel a lot better off being my own boss, not just because of the income (which can go up and down) but the freedom to work at my own pace, choose my clients and be around my kids every day.

Hiya, how a architecture could save by doing his own property? I really need to know it 😀

Self-employment is a goal for several architects, when did you know it was the right time to start working for yourself?

@@annotatearchitecture I didn’t have a choice, I lost my job during the recession 2008 and needed to pay the bills. Never looked back.
I think there is never a good time to become self employed. If the economy is booming, why leave a good job. If the economy is tanking, where will you get clients?
I never wanted to be self employed but it turned into the best career decesion I ever made.

57th highest paid career in the UK. What a fucking joke. You do all the work, others in the industry with IQ of 70 ruin your work, then blame you for things going wrong, and the system allows it as a precedent, and even encourages it. The latest change in policy following the Grenfell fire just adds fuel to the fire and acts as an extra smack in the face. Wish I chose my career path differently, it's a waste of time, especially in the UK.

It's a frustrating feeling! If you didn't choose Architecture, what would you have gone into?

Unfortunately, with this salary, most of the architects will find it difficult to buy a tiny flat in London.

7 years of torture, for £15000 a year to start if your lucky. Not worth the mental health issues, Seriously! If you are lucky, you might get a job as a tutor, at some University, this might help you buy food.
