Barney Hall made Nascar and MRN some of the best races to ever listen to. He wasn't overdramatic like most announcer's are now
God this brings back great memories with the old MRN radio broadcast...
Guys leaving teams mid season etc., I can’t even watch it anymore
Yep.. Fishing on the river and mrn on the radio
I’ll echo what has been said here. The MRN broadcast was great to hear. I remember listening to this race while doing the weekly Sunday car wash/interior cleaning. Thanks for uploading this

Ernie Elliots victory lane interview was AWESOME!
To date nobody has gone faster than Bill Elliott in that FORD Thunderbird. Over 212mph at Talladega Awesome Bill. Those were the days
I remember, it may have been Cale but not sure who said it, but they said something like "I'm working my butt off trying to drive my car and Bill just flies by me, laid back with one arm hanging out the window like he just out for a cruise!"
The most awesome comeback in the history of NASCAR. One (1) major league North Georgia AssWhuppin delivered by #9!
I am from VA, grew up 15 miles from Richmond fairgrounds, we went to every race. We also a few times went to martinsville and Bristol which are all short tracks. My dad drove Tractor trailer and occasionally I would go with him. My dad decided we was going to Talladega race. I never forget walking into dega and seeing how big, I was a chevy fan back then more than a driver fan. To watch them cars go that fast I will never forget but my god when that #9 Ford came out of the pits he was 2 laps down and you had to be there to understand, but he was running that thing, it sounded like a jet coming by, he was running 223mph down the back straight away. He was actually sliding the car through the corners. Yes as a 54 year old man now. I love to sit and watch that ford again because all I can't really put into words what i seen that day. And they say that ford was built in little garage in Georgia
If I had to choose one car for a superspeedway race, it would be that 85 Coors Ford.
I'll take an unrestricted T-Rex #24.
This is the sort of thing that you will never see on a superspeedway ever again. The restrictor plate prevents just this sort of astonishing comeback drive from 2.5 laps down to win, while the race remains under green.
Small wonder that one of Bill Elliott's nicknames was "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville," as this performance really was awesome to watch
It wasn't 2.5 laps it was almost 2 laps.
@bbigjohnson069 regardless of the margin, the point remains the same, it's not a margin that would be made up, let alone under green today
@@SiVlog1989 Agree never happen again. not under green. He could have made up 2.5 laps under green though I believe.
Irvan had to come from pretty far behind to win the DieHard 500 at Dega back in 92. He got a lap down at the start, forgot why but he made it up under green & won. There were only like 3 cars on the lead lap at the finish...
At 36:00 you can see how much faster that Ernie Elliott engine really was on the top end compared to even the other Fords like Cales. 🚗💨🔥
Ernie? That's Bill Elliott

@@ItsRevival Ernie built the engine....
I remember this race like it was last week
This is when NASCAR was worth watching. Todays NASCAR is nothing more than an IROC race every week with rules that do not promote racing.
Man I wish NASCAR still had racing like this. It might as well be the IROC series in the 90's. Would have loved to seen ol' Million dollar Bill dominate in the Mid 80's!!
Old bill went home had dinner and watched them fight over second place on tv he beat em bad
Better than nothing, but they really didn't show Bill Elliott unlapping himself or anything.
And then came more rule changes so the bow ties could keep up without blowing up ....same thing all throughout France history
This is pure single car racing at a Super that we no longer see! I would give anything to see this nowadays at Talladega!!!🎉
Every time they show the camera angle from the rear with #9 crossing the start/finish line and bouncing into turn one with the oil stained bumper, it just looks like the video is on 1.2x speed. I wish they had the full video of this race on TH-cam.
Nascar, has went from Bill Elliot, thanking the lord! To, Bubba Wallace, talking about a noose hung in his garage stall. Which, was a finger hole, in a garage door pull down cord. What, in the world?!
I guess at least ONE person just HAD to bring Bubba's damn name into this shit. For one thing, you fools act like he put that rope up there himself, he was back at the damn hotel & told about it by his team & NASCAR. Furthermore, it was 4 fucking years ago like how long are you bitches gonna cry about that shit geez....
I was there
If Elliot was turning laps at 46.40 secs. that's 206.379 mph. Damn!
Yeah 2 years later in the 87 race they turned laps during the race of 209.
@@JB0143RP I've heard that Elliot's car was scaled down. I don't see how they could get around the templates and wheelbase rules. But if you look at his car and Yarborough's side by side the nose on Elliot's looks narrower as if the fenders are pulled in at the headlight doors.
@@bbigjohnson069 so the wheelbase and body length had to fit the template. The width had more wiggle room. I believe the Elliotts narrowed the body within the rules for better aerodynamics. Other teams eventually caught on and if you watch a race from 87 the cars all look narrower.
@@JB0143RP Waltrip mentioned it in his book but I don't recall if he felt it was true or not. I know Ernie Elliot did a lot of machine work with the cylinder heads particularly the combustion chambers that gave them more HP. If that's true about a narrower front nose that would add a few more mph. That and maybe 20-30 more HP would give him that advantage.
@@bbigjohnson069 I've heard Ernie was an early adopter of cnc machining which allowed tighter tolerances in the engine. No idea if this is true. But I agree a combination of aero advantage as well as horsepower did it.
a shame our go government took away this sponsor.
I love it when the drove real cars at my favorite track. From my house it takes me 35 min to get there.
BILL ELLIOTT IS BEING DOMINANT THIS SEASON!!!!
THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD IN 1 VIDEO TAKE CARE
Seems kinda “narrow”. 😂😂 This was an epic race. Who unlaps themselves twice at speeds like this to win a 100k, then 1 mil bonus prize? The real story of this race was not told with this vid.
Bill Elliott is the only driver to ever come from 2 laps down to win a race without the aid of a caution
He was actually just short of two laps down but point taken. It was in the vicinity of five miles that he was behind and he came all the way back to the front without a caution. I had Bill in our race pool at work that day and actually was listening to the race while at work. Everyone was giving me a hard time when he came into the pits smoking and lost all that time !
It would've been awesome to see Bobby Allison continue to run races in the early 1990s.
The camera work certainly has improved from then to now. Lots of engine problems in 1985
The video is actually a combination of parts of the MRN radio broadcast interwoven with matching parts of video taken by an independent production company ( probably Bob Peace's outfit ). I thoroughly enjoyed it !
I was there.
GM had their ass handed to them!
24.04 MAKE IT UP UNDER GREEN AWFULLY DIFFICULT YOU HEAR THAT MR ELLIOTT LMAO
Man the tires they're running look huge for the time, they seem to be really tall. More rubber more contact patch. The new wheels are bigger but mostly rim with short tire height. I wonder how fast they could run the cars today if unrestricted. Apparently it's quite dangerous at much higher speeds or I think they would be doing it. Why not?
They were running Bias-Ply tires at the time at all of the tracks, but for Daytona and Talladega, they had special construction for those tires with an inner liner cause of the high speeds. Goodyear did not use Radials at the plate tracks until 1989. They were to have been used in the Daytona 500 that year but teams were having problems so Hoosier stepped in and supplied Bias-Ply tires for the field. After extensive testing, the Radial tire was finally safe to use on the plate tracks and made their superspeedway debut at the Winston 500 at Talladega, which coincided with the debut of the Chevy Lumina to replace the aging Monte Carlo
The Elliott team is the reason restrictor plates came to be! Shitrolet had to to be able to win somehow!
Without those two cautions the avg speed for the race would have easily been over 190.
Never understood why Cale Yarborough went to Ford this year...
19:00 Elliot pits for oil line
gotta be a gm !over. no mention of the 2 !ap rundown. "difficu!t to mace up a !ap." bwahahaha. sic, puter dying.
The maker of this video had to match the footage that was available to him with portions of the radio broadcast. I think he did an outstanding job.
