The most awesome and spectacular come back in the history of NASCAR. It will NEVER be done again with the restrictions on the cars now.
Bill said in his autobiography that he ran many laps in EXCESS of his qualifying speed, so that means lap speeds greater than 209.389 mph!!!!
    That's hauling ass!
North Georgia blue oval ass whuppin! FoMoCo for the win baby!

Old Billy brought a full can of Georgia whoop ass to the track that day. Bill ran a few laps full speed after the stop and was making more than 1/2 second on the field and got on the radio to ask Ernie if it would hold together. Ernie said "let's find out". Incredible piece the Melling team brought to the track in 1985 each week.

even though I was very young around this time, but over time as I saw the highlights and still amazed how Bill Elliott made up over 5 miles UNDER GREEN cause in normal circumstances if you lose a lap at Talladega or Daytona, you are done cause it is very hard to make up even one lap unless it's under yellow

The MRN broadcasting and the clear pictures make this the best old race broadcast on youtube. Hands down.

The 80's were good for lots of reasons, you can visibly see the sponsor logos with nice bold graphics, and the sponsor was on the car for the full season. The racing was good to. You can see how packed this place was. MRN was in its heyday to, I like listening to the radio broadcast with the tv video. Thanks for the upload!

I realize it is a safety hazard, but I enjoy seeing the unlimited speeds along pit lane, where you can see the drivers putting *the pedal to the metal* with drag racing out of the pits.

Too bad the video of what seemed like a good race got hacked to pieces ... we see the first 30 or 40 laps twice, then the last half of the race is missing(??) ... I guess a little is better than nothing, and the MRN coverage was a special treat ... but what a disappointing jumble ...

The greatest comeback in the history of stock car racing, and NASCAR doesn't ever want to talk about it ... because it demonstrates that strangle plates aren't required for incredible racing.

@@SMIFFTV if people in the stands or infield had any old camcorder footage, it would be sweet if they could get it to you and mix that with the MRN broadcast, that would be awesome. A pain in the ass, but awesome. I'd contribute$$ to the cause

NASCAR should allow smaller engines with forced induction. Cars that came stock with turbos are eligible. Like a Supra. Or a 4-cylinder car with a huge Turbo.

They had one thing going for them. They were all family and the shop was on Dawsonville. Everyone around Charlotte, the big teams would hire guys back and forth and they would bring "secrets" with them. You also need to remember this was before CNC machines - "Head Porting" was done by candlelight with a man and a air grinder with no peeping eyes, no cameras, no lasers etc. That engine was assembled in the Elliott garage on Elliott property and those secrets stayed in the "Family" It wasn't just this race - pretty much 85, 86, 87 their cars were rockets and they would literally make competitors cry each week on super speedways. No cheating needed

You want to talk cheating, how about 1986 when you GM crybabies got to put a sloped back glass in that wasn't stock. It's been over 30 years and I have yet to see a GM car with that sloped glass on the road!! I can still find 1986 Thunderbirds that look like Bill's car.
You whining cheating pu🐱🐱y GM lovers crack me up!
