  • Musing bows are made by the same company as Arcus bows, and have many similarities at a fraction of the price. Michael from Fiddlershop.com takes a look at the C2-C5 bows and plays them back to back.

I heard a big difference, particularly between the C2 and C3.

Amazing how they can make bows that sound so simmilar ;)

The sound coming from c4 and c5 have a kind of core. while others' sound are more floating in the air

it's funny how everyone hears differently. For me it was quite apparent that the change from C3 to C4 was the most notable. I liked the C4 best, because I couldnt hear a difference between 4 and 5. C2 and C3 sounded a bit more muffled and shallow but I would have to try.

Beautiful playing! The change from C3 to C4 was most significant for me, and since I don't have that good a violin, I don't think the C5 would make much difference. I wish there was a specific Bow made for 5 String that actually had a bit more length. I'm always running out of bow.

For me, I'd really have to play with the bows to see a real differences. They might sound similar, but you might have to work harder with one, whereas another is easier, more comfortable to play, and of course spiccato.

Very nice. The biggest difference is between c2 and c3. Between c4 and C5 not too much. Thanks 😊

The C4 has the most punch. If you know what I mean.

I really don't know how objective this all is. To me it seems that 2=3 and 4=5, with these sounding better, provided that there's no extra reverb added to them (basically that sounds to be the difference to me). It may be placebo...

Gee, I was hoping you'd emote a little more! :-) I would like to know a bit more of your thoughts (and feelings) on how these bows handle. How do they compare to fine wooden bows with respect to balance and response. Does playing with such a light bow allow you to play longer without fatiguing or do you end up having to work more with adding pressure? BTW, I just wrote a humorous song about the takeover of earth by AI. I believe robots will have emotions and even a sense of humor. Thanks for your entertaining review!

Hi Woody McKenzie, thanks for being interested in our Müsing bows. They sound as good as fine old pernambuco bows - but at a much lower price! And they actually respond much quicker than wooden bows because of their unique combination of power and lightness. The "power" derives from the increased stiffness of the stick, the curve, weight, balance point and especially the distribution of resiliency and weight along the stick (which is the result of lots of playing experience and calculations). You will be surprised how easy it is to control the bounce of the Müsing bows and equally easy to stop the bounce again.Regarding the lower weight: yes, it does indeed imply the end of fatigue and pain! If you are one of too many musicians who experience a tired bow arm or shoulder, sore thumb or other discomfort in your right hand, playing with a Müsing bow may surprise you with a long lost comfort and ease. The best way to find out if a Müsing bow suits you, is to try it! Good luck and enjoy (in case you'll buy one) 😉

I start to hear a little from C4-5. Not enough to justify any increase in price...

Sounds like you play with a mute on these. There is no resonance over tones. Sounds dead to me... But your playing is amazing!

C5 enters different dimension; from C1 to C4, they are all good but giving ,or answering quality of the bow according to the same efforts, seems to get more rich and eloquent accordingly as the grade goes up. If you go for this brand, i say you should start with at least C3 if possible C4 and you wouldn't want more for a long time if you are a amateur weekend musician.
C5 is a door to something much more, a tool for soloistic expression or tool for letting your hidden passion to be expressed out in the world in relatively affordable price...
and please, don't make them monsters from Cyberdyne... I know that compared to wooden bows, Arcus bows are somewhat too celestial: too clean, lacks the vibe and warmth in "some way" ; but they make great clarity, tinge and maneuverability .
