Both sides were competent and effective. It was a tense movie at times. But it would have worked better if they had chosen one format to follow. A war movie? Given. Documentary or and action movie. Pick one.

The thing is, despite all of the lasers and plasma weapons you see in sci-fi. Kinetic weapons like ours are a very efficient way to inflict damage upon an enemy. Even if their weapons are more advanced, our weapons still send dense pieces of metal at supersonic speeds towards their bodies.

This movie deserved so much more credit than it got. It felt so much more like an on the ground grunt's perspective. Rather than some hero in some form lone fight for the fate of humanity. I occasionally enjoy those. But this was refreshing to see.
From what was released, the aliens who invaded were probably not the dominant species on their planet, which is why their tech isn’t very advanced for a space-faring species. The invasion was most likely colonization out of desperation. And for a planet as big as Earth, 25 million isn’t a very big force for invading a planet.
i belive that they modified themselfs, all the charateristics of them suggest they are an aquatic species that modified their bodys extensivly to prevail in terrestrial enviroment. Also, they aren't all that advanced than us, they have equivalent weapons and have tatics that are very similar to our own, but that is the problem... How a completly different species even modified to become humanoids, are able to replicate so well our tatics and even our manerisms? That suggests that they at least study us extensivly, and maybe by don't have our knowlosge of war in our enviroment, they try to mimic what they knew about us... But that is where the problem start... At this point, if they are able to mimic us, they probably have the capabilitys to do bio weapons against us (that would be the most eficient way to take us down), their bio mechanical nature even suggests that they are really good at this field. The only thing that could prevent them to attack us first with this kind of tatic is if they don't know what exactly they will be dealing with on Earth, and then, the whole ideia of them mimic us is flushed to the toilet because they will be uncapable of know exactly how we are. So yeah, the movie has some plot holes... I really like the ideia of this alien invasion, but you know wich movie got it really right? The movie Oblivion! In that movie the alien AI, use one of the best tatics of all, turn us against us! One Tom Cruise against humanity is bad, millions of them is a cathastropy!
Elson Felix Maybe aliens won’t be as different as us when we meet them, you see the aliens point at enemies, share ammo, care for their sick, this shows their intelligence and Cognitive agency and awareness is on par with us. Aliens probably understand a lot of different things that’s considered “Human” and “natural” to us

The aliens wanted all the water to power their hydrogen fueled ships. Those pulsejets are probably being fueled by compressed hydrogen since it has a very high energy density as a fuel source.

Oh, the lights of L.a event, i remember that poster back when the movie was gonna come out, i kinda wish the movie had had a bigger scope of the combat given that i expected massive ships, but well, budget.
To be honest, the alien invasion in that movie is pretty damn unstoppable (if it wasn't for the germs). Like these guys use EMP to disable all electronic devices, then pop up and start attacking in such a fast pace, that where ever they pop up, no more news comes out of that area. And they have energy shields. So basically it's an invincible blitzkreig that nobody expects.
VERY Underrated is right! This is still one of the best military movies I've ever seen. The tactics, the mentality, and the equipment of the Marine squad is spot-on. Too bad this didn't receive higher accolades.
This movie has lots of good action set pieces and scenes, though it was always in the back of my mind that I was basically watching a really long ad for the military

If you have to travel light (and aren't expecting tons of resistance), absolutely yeah. IIRC, the in-universe explanation for why Stargate Command went from MP-5's to P90's is because the high-velocity 5.7mm round has better armor-piercing characteristics than the slower but larger 9mm FMJ.

In addition, the 50 round magazine in a compact weapon like the P90 is ideal when you have to go light, move fast, and defeat hordes of extra-terrestrials. Bonus: The FN 57 pistol can hold 20+1 or 30+1 with extended magazine.
Always loved the movie being usmc infantry myself, it was an actually somewhat decent representation of what it would be like to go up against another organized military force
It was awesome to see the Marines facing against an alien force that seemed competent in military operations, taking cover, having set roles, Covering fire while retrieving wounded, ambush tactics and reacting when shot were all nice touches. Especially when they were all formed up and marching over human corpses showing that they were more organized and organic and not like robotic terminators
When this film first came out, I thought sure it was the foundation of a new franchise, with each additional film set in a different city, with different characters, and a new set of problems. Intel from previous battles in other cities could have been the basis for advancing the franchise story arc.
This is one of my favorite movies , when I was around 11 I would watch this movie lots of time and never get bored . Glad to see someone making a video about it.
I watched this the year it came out. This movie was supposed to have 2 more after it but since they didn't bring enough money in, they just left it how it was.
This alien invasion has elements of the blitz and the Tet offensive. The surprising speed and effectiveness of how they land and establish themselves is of the blitz. The fact that this is mostly a series of tactical battles makes the invasion much more like the Tet offensive. Each target for invasion is its own fighting force with its own immediate objectives. There is no mother ship in orbit directing the invasion, like in Independence Day. Each invasion point has its own equipment and objectives. They either fail and die on their own or they succeed on their own. For them its do or die.
They had technology. These Marines had Ne-Yo!!!! His dance skills give him a certain agility that makes him a harder target for the aliens. See: Beautiful Monster music video 🤣🤣
I know it wasn't a very popular movie but I actually really like it and I would say it's one of my favorites. I really like the focus on the humans. The aliens remain nameless the whole movie. They are a force to be opposed. I also really like how the aliens feel alive and have their own goal. You feel that we are just as alien to them as they are to us. For instance at 3:56 you can see one of them take care of the machine but when it gets shot at and flinches and Retreat to cover. I also just think the aliens look awesome.
Can you do “How to survive Alien Outpost/Outpost 37?” Very underrated alien/war movie, in my humble opinion. Also, Allen’s prior service, isn’t he? He sounds like it. Everything he’s said in this video has checked all my 11B boxes...
I love this movie because of how realistic the aliens are. They aren't completely invincible, and they know that. They take cover, have to plan careful strategies, etc. Instead of just doing all out assaults with gigantic mechs and aliens in invincible battle suits.
It’s one of those movies that you watch because you want to watch and had an incredible trailer but it’s easy to understand why some really dislike it.

If you guys loved this movie, give The Blackout on Amazon Prime a shot. It's a Russian TV show with a very similar style - the show follows around infantry squads fighting off an alien invasion in a near future. Just binge watched the whole thing in one night because it was freaking brillant.
The whole invasion in the movie takes place over one day, so I'm sure a lot of the aliens' success in conquering Los Angeles is due to their suprise and shock and awe. Their armed forces, at least from what we see, are not well suited for a protracted fight. Each branch is apparently armed sole to face their counterparts on the battlefield, which is why we see their infantry having so much trouble taking out human armored vehicles. Plus, even with a world wide invasion force of 30+ million, unless more of them were coming or they can reproduce very quickly, and can replace their lost equipment (their air drones and such) rapidly, the sheer disparity in numbers between us and them guarantees a human victory in the long run.
Absolutely amazing movie I have always loved it, I’m so glad to see hundreds of other people loved it too.. I wish they’d come out with another one like “Battle New York” or something
Watching this film again recently and its a great sci fi flick. I did imagine though what would happen if a squad of space marines helped out their fellow humans and appeared in orbit above LA. drop pod down smashing into the aliens and unleashing their fire power.

It was more of a war than War of the Worlds in the sense that it portrayed actual armed forces from both sides gaining and losing ground while not being a one-sided extermination.

This movie is great but you should do the same video on The War Of The Worlds (2005). That movie is so terrifying and very underrated. One quote that sums up those terrifying aliens is... "Once the tripods start to move, no more news comes out of that area."
I like how he says using the car as cover... in the front where the engine block is. I can just imagine some guy near the gas tank going "oh..right!" And shuffles to the front lol
I loved the "realism" and that people die and it's not constantly happy ending. I kind of wished that they would have made a part 2 focussing on the invasion in London or other cities.
You mentioned AP rounds in the marine's rifles but hardened steel core green tips have been standard issue now for several years... just thought I'd mention it.

I never noticed that the aliens actually recoil and retreat when hit. I think that’s cool cause it almost makes them more like people and less like murderbots.
I watched it again recently and enjoyed it.But it just reinforced the notion that we need bigger bullets.6.8 is being used now with small units. it can punch through armor that 5.56 can't.
Considering that the aliens in this movie go after anyone with a transmitting radio, I would also recommend not using it. I remember when watching this telling my friends that I bet most of the people the aliens killed during the initial invasion were those folks using their cellphones to report what was happening. It seemed that most of the initially killed people had something near them that could transmit, while everyone else was just in the blast zone.
I liked this movie for what it was trying to do. In hindsight, I am curious now how a militia would work together with the marines in the same situation.
I enjoyed the way the alien forces acted. They had squad tactics built around air superiority, carried wounded (or disabled) soldiers out of the way. They were utterly unbeatable in the air but were much more vulnerable on the ground. They were tough & competent, but their slapdash equipment seemed to infer (at least) to me that their equipment wasn't top notch, but rather was stripped down to be at the most basic level of functionality. I like the idea that, for whatever reason, the aliens weren't equipped to be the best warriors possible, but rather the very least that was necessary. I don't think heavier equipment was needed; their drones and support weapons seemed to be enough to take out an entire city. At some points, I inferred that these aliens were competent, but not actually very aggressive. Despite seemingly having most of the advantages available, they always seemed to be waiting for more support. Understandable, but also slightly suspect for an enemy who holds almost all the card. Despite the overwhelming force they had, they were cautious to the point that they allowed small units to disengage from close quarters several times.
what is this? an underrated alien invasion movie with realistic aliens, a true competent military, conventional strategies, no squirming creatures, potential for good lore, not a WOTW ripoff, take cover like normall soldiers "alien and human", AND not overpowered? SIGN ME UP!

Marines still used the M16A4s back in 2011.

Hollywood does not like or allow the US military to 'win' in movies. Here, a movie about the principle of hero's and winning, except using aliens.

Maybe aliens won’t be as different as us when we meet them, you see the aliens point at enemies, share ammo, care for their sick, this shows their intelligence and Cognitive agency and awareness is on par with us. Aliens probably understand a lot of different things that’s considered “Human” and “natural” to us

The aliens wanted all the water to power their hydrogen fueled ships. Those pulsejets are probably being fueled by compressed hydrogen since it has a very high energy density as a fuel source.

If the aliens needed water, all they would have to do is to grab a couple of comets out in the Oort Cloud about 100,000 AU from the sun. They wouldn't even have to enter our solar system.

To be honest, the alien invasion in that movie is pretty damn unstoppable (if it wasn't for the germs). Like these guys use EMP to disable all electronic devices, then pop up and start attacking in such a fast pace, that where ever they pop up, no more news comes out of that area. And they have energy shields. So basically it's an invincible blitzkreig that nobody expects.

VERY Underrated is right! This is still one of the best military movies I've ever seen. The tactics, the mentality, and the equipment of the Marine squad is spot-on. Too bad this didn't receive higher accolades.

If you have to travel light (and aren't expecting tons of resistance), absolutely yeah. IIRC, the in-universe explanation for why Stargate Command went from MP-5's to P90's is because the high-velocity 5.7mm round has better armor-piercing characteristics than the slower but larger 9mm FMJ.
@@tba113 This is true. The 5.7 is effective against most alien armor or hardened carapace. In addition, the 50 round magazine in a compact weapon like the P90 is ideal when you have to go light, move fast, and defeat hordes of extra-terrestrials. Bonus: The FN 57 pistol can hold 20+1 or 30+1 with extended magazine.
Always loved the movie being usmc infantry myself, it was an actually somewhat decent representation of what it would be like to go up against another organized military force
It was awesome to see the Marines facing against an alien force that seemed competent in military operations, taking cover, having set roles, Covering fire while retrieving wounded, ambush tactics and reacting when shot were all nice touches. Especially when they were all formed up and marching over human corpses showing that they were more organized and organic and not like robotic terminators
When this film first came out, I thought sure it was the foundation of a new franchise, with each additional film set in a different city, with different characters, and a new set of problems. Intel from previous battles in other cities could have been the basis for advancing the franchise story arc.
This is one of my favorite movies , when I was around 11 I would watch this movie lots of time and never get bored . Glad to see someone making a video about it.

I watched this the year it came out. This movie was supposed to have 2 more after it but since they didn't bring enough money in, they just left it how it was.

This alien invasion has elements of the blitz and the Tet offensive. The surprising speed and effectiveness of how they land and establish themselves is of the blitz. The fact that this is mostly a series of tactical battles makes the invasion much more like the Tet offensive. Each target for invasion is its own fighting force with its own immediate objectives. There is no mother ship in orbit directing the invasion, like in Independence Day. Each invasion point has its own equipment and objectives. They either fail and die on their own or they succeed on their own. For them its do or die.
I absolutely love how this video is made. Brings a tear to the eye.

I know it wasn't a very popular movie but I actually really like it and I would say it's one of my favorites.
I really like the focus on the humans. The aliens remain nameless the whole movie. They are a force to be opposed.
I also really like how the aliens feel alive and have their own goal. You feel that we are just as alien to them as they are to us. For instance at 3:56 you can see one of them take care of the machine but when it gets shot at and flinches and Retreat to cover. I also just think the aliens look awesome.

I love this movie because of how realistic the aliens are. They aren't completely invincible, and they know that. They take cover, have to plan careful strategies, etc. Instead of just doing all out assaults with gigantic mechs and aliens in invincible battle suits.
This movie was so awesome, I'm still hoping they make a part two or something, a movie like this was something I've always wanted to see.......

If you guys loved this movie, give The Blackout on Amazon Prime a shot. It's a Russian TV show with a very similar style - the show follows around infantry squads fighting off an alien invasion in a near future. Just binge watched the whole thing in one night because it was freaking brillant.
The whole invasion in the movie takes place over one day, so I'm sure a lot of the aliens' success in conquering Los Angeles is due to their suprise and shock and awe.
Their armed forces, at least from what we see, are not well suited for a protracted fight. Each branch is apparently armed sole to face their counterparts on the battlefield, which is why we see their infantry having so much trouble taking out human armored vehicles.
Plus, even with a world wide invasion force of 30+ million, unless more of them were coming or they can reproduce very quickly, and can replace their lost equipment (their air drones and such) rapidly, the sheer disparity in numbers between us and them guarantees a human victory in the long run.
Absolutely amazing movie I have always loved it, I’m so glad to see hundreds of other people loved it too.. I wish they’d come out with another one like “Battle New York” or something

I loved the "realism" and that people die and it's not constantly happy ending. I kind of wished that they would have made a part 2 focussing on the invasion in London or other cities.

This is one of my favorite movies.
Considering that the aliens in this movie go after anyone with a transmitting radio, I would also recommend not using it. I remember when watching this telling my friends that I bet most of the people the aliens killed during the initial invasion were those folks using their cellphones to report what was happening. It seemed that most of the initially killed people had something near them that could transmit, while everyone else was just in the blast zone.
I just recently watched that movie a few days ago. And it was such a good movie! I'm very happy that he made a video.
Its basically a movie of Alien Marines vs US Marines. And they both act like marines.
Its actually really enjoyable.
Everybody hated the movie, the few like us appreciate and understand the movie congregated on this video to express appreciation.
I liked this movie for what it was trying to do. In hindsight, I am curious now how a militia would work together with the marines in the same situation.
I enjoyed the way the alien forces acted. They had squad tactics built around air superiority, carried wounded (or disabled) soldiers out of the way. They were utterly unbeatable in the air but were much more vulnerable on the ground. They were tough & competent, but their slapdash equipment seemed to infer (at least) to me that their equipment wasn't top notch, but rather was stripped down to be at the most basic level of functionality. I like the idea that, for whatever reason, the aliens weren't equipped to be the best warriors possible, but rather the very least that was necessary.
I don't think heavier equipment was needed; their drones and support weapons seemed to be enough to take out an entire city.
At some points, I inferred that these aliens were competent, but not actually very aggressive. Despite seemingly having most of the advantages available, they always seemed to be waiting for more support. Understandable, but also slightly suspect for an enemy who holds almost all the card. Despite the overwhelming force they had, they were cautious to the point that they allowed small units to disengage from close quarters several times.
what is this? an underrated alien invasion movie with realistic aliens, a true competent military, conventional strategies, no squirming creatures, potential for good lore, not a WOTW ripoff, take cover like normall soldiers "alien and human", AND not overpowered? SIGN ME UP!
