    Gil’s criteria for voting:
Everyone is fair game. No grandfathering in. Original 50 out!
Championships are TEAM awards. I’m looking at personal stats and championships are the cherry on top
    All NBA > All Star
No predicting or fast-forwarding. No future success based on present stats. Stats are CURRENT stats.

Crazy for saying Dwight was above Patrick Ewing. Dwight should be on, but Ewing was doing what Dwight did on Defense and gave you 25pts on offense. He was All NBA 1st or 2nd team 7 times when there were real centers in the league. End of Kareem, Hakeem, Robinson, Parrish, Moses, Alonzo Mourning, Mutombo etc. That’s disrespect to Patrick man.

T-Mac was arguably the best player in the world for about half a decade. He was 7-time all star AND 7-time all-NBA, plus a scoring champ... That's not enough? I feel like being top 3 for 6 or 7 years is just as significant as being top 15 for, say, 12 years. In the same vein, one could make an argument that being an MVP -- i.e., THE (supposedly) best player for a given year -- should automatically qualify someone barring some extreme unforeseen circumstance (i.e., only having 2 or 3 healthy seasons before an injury). Anybody who's a multi-time MVP, it's a no-brainer.
The argument for a dude like Mikan is that he was _far and away_ the best player of his era. It was a crappy era but he was clearly that dude. He shot 40%, sure, but _offense as we know it literally hadn't been invented yet._ People weren't even taking jump shots. Audiences were throwing batteries and stuff... games were played in _cages!_ If you're not going to ding guys for shooting insane percentages now when you can't hand check them, don't ding George for playing during an era where people could body check you and it wasn't even a foul.

If Harden only average like 20 pts this season, it just proves that his stats are inflated due to the foul rules. Then he needs to go out. Btw the All-NBA are voted on by the media too so it's not more valid than All-Star. There needs to be a player vote list. A lot of players in the 60s and 50s have inflated stats too. If anything, gotta take stats and pacing into consideration.

I hated Harden for a long time, but after those back to back dunks in Draymond's face during the playoffs, I can't deny his greatness anymore. I'm still not a fan (and never will be), but to deny his greatness is to expose your ignorance of the game.

I see what he’s saying but I think the accolades, and intangibles attached to some of these players names add to them being on the list. Especially if they’re from older eras. This comes into play too if they have different roles where they defer to more dominant players on their team.
I think all nbas, your averages and totals, and finals mvps and regular season mvps should hold more weight. Maybe being a statistical champion in one of the categories should hold weight too. All individual awards and accolades.
It gets hairy when you look at influence and impact as well like being the first to do something or the best at something all time despite your stats.

You can’t just use numbers. Guys like Worthy and Parish played with other all time greats so their career individual weren’t going to be crazy. Also Vince was playing in an era with Kobe, Iverson. This is why you can’t just use one criteria. You gotta factor in a bunch of things that’s why it’s so hard to breakdown.

Vince is the greatest dunker of all time. I can't believe he doesn't just get an automatic ticket.

Defensive player of the year is important to me but its funny how the Nba says the game has changed ,players have to guard 1-5 but give defensive player of the year to Rudy gobert who i watched for years leave jokic open for three and sit under the basket. Then youre gonna say its coaching. Well they’ll never win in Utah. Bam and AD are better defensive players than Rudy Gobert.

Facts. Gobert is great, but he's not as versatile as an AD or a Bam.. AD is like prime KG he can lock up on the perimeter and also anchor the defense in the middle, Yet gobert always gets the nod for DPOY.

    • @smesh8318

Rudy’s more of a defensive anchor than a Dpoy.. guys like Hakeem could really guard all 5 positions, Rudy can BLOCK all positions, not guard them though

Problem is guys like Gil just talk about "stats" and numbers. The greatest players debate is about accolades! Greatest in comparing era's is all about accolades. Stats are affected by rules at that particular time. Accolades are not as much if at all really.
