I've actually seen Sam Johnson do it a couple of times, if I was never able to get taught by Ken then Sam would be one of the very few vocal coaches I'd consider along with Cheryl Porter, both have great videos on their YT channel. In fact, I'd love to see Sam and Ken collaborate on a video together someday! But yes, Ken is the best when it comes to proving his abilities as a voice teacher/coach 💯
I remember seeing A-Ha on an awards show. After they sang "Take On Me" the camera went to presenter Kenny Rogers, who had a look on his face that said "I couldn't sing this on the best day of my life."
Not to toot my own horn, but … toot toot! This has been a karaoke mainstay for me since the early ‘90s. I was 17 when the song dominated MTV, and I was absolutely floored at the tonal challenge it presented. My dad said I’d never hit “the note,” to which motivated me to do just that. Now -nearly 40 years later, I have a new set of tools to help me approach each phrase a little easier. Thanks, Mr. Ken!! _OLD GUYS CAN STILL ROCK!_
Thank you Ken! I have zero musical blood in my body, but I really enjoy watching and admiring you and others that can sing or play an instrument. It just amazes me the talent people have.
His voice is like silk - so relaxed yet controlled, but most importantly, always pleasant, never shrill. I think he mostly does a great job on their songs to this day.
Ken, When you listen to Morten live, I believe he sings the "be gone" in falsetto. I find the verses the trickier part. Morten seems to float in and out of his falsetto so seemlessly in the verses. Liked your "take on" this (the higher parts)!
You are truly correct when you said that the high note of that song isnt that really high, ive been practicing your tips and it really helps me improve my range and techniques that you provided. God bless you Ken, you are a legend! 🤘🤘🤘
I bought your 2.0 course two years ago and it's made a considerable difference and improvement in my singing, I get compliments all the time on songs I sing at Karaoke, Faithfully, Don't stop Believing, Man in the Box, Final Countdown, Unchained Melody, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi and so forth. Thanks Ken the course was great and so is this video.
Gotta love Grandmaster Ken.. I bought this album back in '85 just for this song, I still remember carrying it home at the age of 10, almost eleven. I could probably sing almost every note from the original (on a good day) EXCEPT the highest "TWDoooo" from the end of the chorus. Not to mention what Ken does just to show us mere mortals at the end... sometimes it feels like a losing race. Anyways Merry Christmas an a better New Year to everyone!
One of the best pop songs of all time. Morten always made it sound so effortless. This was fun although I don’t have any talent as a singer. You did a great job per usual. I loved the extra show off part. 😎🤘
I appreciate your videos, thank you! It's always good to remember how heavy the effects are on high notes like these so you don't get too feeling like you have to put them on furnace blast.
Hi Ken I love this video I did this song A long time ago during the days when I used to do karaoke I would have my friend Faith come up and do the high part now watching this and never realized he used reverb great video Ken in great cover springs back memories of doing karaoke makes me laugh LOL
I have been hoping and waiting that you would pick this song. I absolutely love what you did at the ending when you added the even higher higher higher vocals. 🤘🤘🤘🤘 So cool. Always love your videos.
Wrapping Christmas presents while listening to this video, there’s lots of snow outside here in Sweden! ❄️❄️❄️ I admire the way you can ”play” your voice almost like a keyboard when you show us singing techniques. Somehow I can feel how you do it even though I’m silent (because my kids are watching TV in the next room 😆😄) Thanks Ken for sharing your knowledge with more than 1 million subscribers!
Gojira is a great example of a non-native english speaker's lyrics written in english. They make sense by they're phrased very differently than how a native english speaker would write. Which is one of the things that makes them so cool because they have a uniqueness to them. Bjork too.
...."BRAVO!!!".....teaching things, especially something as personal as 🎵🎶,is" extremely" rewarding..... excellent teaching technique!!.. two thumbs way up!!
this is amazing content ken, thank you so much for this. Even though it's not a song that I particularely want to sing I can learn a lot of how the voice works and the vowel positioning. You're an amazing teacher and your courses are top notch, I've improve tremendously
hi i got the dvds and cds just been in to recording studio recorded hard rock blues song called i be faithful my vocal are so much better now thank you
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas! and a Happy New Years to YOU and YOUR Family!! Here's to 2022, hoping its a better year for everyone! I really enjoy your videos Ken, even tho I can't sing a note, being deaf as well, hard of hearing... but I love to listen to music, My Mom got me into music with her records as a child.
God bless you sister I'm going to pray for you and I believe that God is going to heal you and you will hear again. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Great pronunciation of his name Ken, alot of americans in particular struggle with these types of scandinavian names in my opinion. And that cover of my favorite A-Ha song, as always so damn good Ken, and when you take it up a notch or two, that is just an extra treat for us. :)
I'm 63, it's impossible to convey to young people the profound impact MTV had on music and culture, Aha video in heavy rotation, I still remember that Martha Quinn smirk👍
Vincent Jones. I will be 63 in March, and I too recall that video & Martha's seeming dislike for it. I never liked the song, but the video was pretty cool.
Paul is the one who writes most of the texts for A-ha. He is a year older than Magne, and when he finished high school he "waited" for Magne to finish. He spent the year reading meters of Penguins Classics in English, interrupted only by writing lyrics. He is probably quite steady in English. Besides, he is a perfectionist, and much of what he uses he has found in the literature (in English). Text writing is a form of art, and as with all other art, one takes freedoms. Morten Harket was once asked about the title "Take on me". He replied "It's a bit like" Love me Do""- Beatles, you know. ABBA came more than a decade before A-ha, and the members are born 15 years earlier than the members of A-ha. A lot happened in Norway (I guess the same for Sweden) regarding English teachings in school the periode between these age groups. People from England commenting on interviews with the members of A-ha usually are surprised at how well they spoke English at that time. They lived in London for three years before the breakthrough.
Love your commentary on this...great commentary and tips. Thanks for the fun breakdown! Would love to hear you do a "How to Sing Like Matt Bellamy" from Muse. Keep on rocking!
Thank you for breaking everything down the way you did. I love this song but the singing part of it seemed so intimidating before. At least now I have a fighting chance! 😅
Amazing job Ken. Yes Morten Harket is Norwegian. And he have often strugled with this song the last 15 years. You DID NOT. So amazing job Ken. Very impressive!!
Love reverbs in vocals. And "Forbidden Broadway" hit it perfectly when making fun of "The Music Of The Night" From "The Phantom of the Opera" he sings "When the song becomes a bit**, and I'm slightly under pitch..." {sung off key note} he resumes "...They flip the reverb switch from left to {{Right. And cover up the mucus of the night}}) as it swells to full bright, echo and reverberation. When I sing the song, I keep my voice in the register I prefer to sing in. Which is a little lower than chest voice. I don't go up to falsetto. I was taught to lie on my back and pull the air from my stomach, not my chest. Did wonders for my abs when I was younger... Like Michael Ball when he does "Gethsemane" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" He doesn't go into that obnoxious falsetto and I think it sounds better when one does not. It also shows that it is you being original to yourself and not trying to mimic what someone has already done. I also prefer to hear actual singing, it seems like I hear more belting these days, and not singing. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dolly Parton are singers. For example, Dolly Parton's song "I will Always Love You" from "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." Whitney Houston, hijacked the song for "The Body Guard" and totally RUINED her song for a stupid movie that made no sense. And it is frightening to hear how many people think that is Whitney's song from "The Body Guard." It is not. Anyway, didn't mean to get on a soapbox, but it needed to be said. Thank you for sharing this video. I will check out your other as this song speaks to me. It's odd. When I was a kid, all I would listen to is classical music, Opera, and Broadway Musicals. In my thirties, I didn't appreciate what my parents listened to, and mostly still don't, but I do like certain songs, like TOTO'S Africa, or Pilot's Magic, or Alphaville's Forever Young, Jennifer Rush's Power of Love. Also discovered "Savage Garden" and I was astonished I liked all of those songs. Especially since Windows XP stole their song "A Thousand Words" It's like a switch flipped in my brain and it suddenly occurred to me how great those songs are. I couldn't possibly list them all.
Thanks, looking to add this to our lineup. Except I can't get nearly that high. Would it be just weird if I sang it an octave low? A1 to E4? No falsetto, I lost that a decade ago, lol. Those just both happen to be my useable range.
Hi Ken, I have a question, I bought the 2.0 version of KTVA, so is there a reason why I should buy the 3.0 version? Do u have a video explaining it? Love to hear u about it!
wow you are an amazing voice teacher although it's really hard to hit high notes and some falsetto for most non-singers.. i enjoy your content on every song you try to teach to everyone... keep it up!
You sing this kind of music a lot better than I expected. Sounds great. When you demonstrate it however it sounds like you're belting and singing it a lot heavier compared to your recording and also the original. And your range is insane haha. You gotta be the best coach on the internet. Keep it coming :) greetings from Sweden
Maybe he's got a cold, sinus infection or something similar. I've watched a lot of these videos and normally he doesn't sound like he's pushing as hard.
What other vocal coach would actually sit down and critique their own singing videos ? No one is brave enough, just KTVA! Rock on Ken 🤘🤘🤘
I love it when he be "taking it up a notch" not only did it take it up some notches it also took me back in time to the 80's
Thanks, Mr. Ken!!
_OLD GUYS CAN STILL ROCK!_
I love how you break down all the magic behind the singing. Showing us all that these guys aren't gods. But, that we can do this stuff too!
I haven't watched yet but this is in my top five favorite songs of all time. I am nuts over this song. Okay back to your video and I will remark
Great effort, quality is there, but it is hard to replicate how Morten delivers the emotion into your soul
Thank you Ken! I have zero musical blood in my body, but I really enjoy watching and admiring you and others that can sing or play an instrument. It just amazes me the talent people have.
To break down Mortens voice based on this on song is too simple. He has an astoundingly strong voice..
Amazing well done!
The most difficult high note in the music, and you do it so perfect. Congratulations, my respect. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Always looking for to these videos
My favorite song and favorite MTV on the 80's but was frustrated coz can't sing it on the karaoke but now I'm catching up, thank you.
You are truly correct when you said that the high note of that song isnt that really high, ive been practicing your tips and it really helps me improve my range and techniques that you provided. God bless you Ken, you are a legend! 🤘🤘🤘
Very fantastic🌟
Very perfect🌟
Take on me is very popular song the band A-HA.
Thank you so much.
Rock on🤘

Impressive vocals definitely liked your cover of this was a fun listen
Thank you so much!!
I appreciate your videos, thank you! It's always good to remember how heavy the effects are on high notes like these so you don't get too feeling like you have to put them on furnace blast.
Glad you like them!
SUPER COACH!RESPECT!!!

Great video, really appreciated all the information you provided. Exceptional song and exceptional breakdown
This song is amazing. Ken's version is awesome too! Thank you for that! Thanks for the lesson! My greetings from Brazil!
Merry Christmas and happy holidays Ken. Awesome video as always. I wish you did the slow emotional version of take on me it's very beautiful.
Outstanding
Great rendition/annunciation and lesson; his acoustic version was awesome as well!!!!
Wow man that last chorus you did. Got them prime 80s vocals!
I have been hoping and waiting that you would pick this song. I absolutely love what you did at the ending when you added the even higher higher higher vocals. 🤘🤘🤘🤘 So cool. Always love your videos.

the low A of take on me is the note that I can't reach to save my life. But then again I'm a high tenor.
this is amazing content ken, thank you so much for this. Even though it's not a song that I particularely want to sing I can learn a lot of how the voice works and the vowel positioning. You're an amazing teacher and your courses are top notch, I've improve tremendously
Just had my A-Ha moment 😀
Great. 😎🤘 Beeing Scandinavian myself (swedish) it's extra nice to see you do songs from my end of the globe. 😁
That's awesome!
Another great video example of your versatility!. I’m still shocked you weren’t a huge vocalist in the 80’s! You blow most vocalists away! Great job!
Thank you for doing this one!!!! I have struggled with that last note. I love your version
Ken, I really love when you do your analysis of singing. I learn so much and I've never heard any other instructors do this. Have a Merry Christmas!!
Wow, thanks!
We thank you all for this videos Ken sooo much 🙏 😉
Hey Ken, can you do a video of probable symptoms of nodes on the vocal chords? Thanks in advance!

Don't forget Kurt Loder who thought he was an actual serious news reporter. Unwatchable.
I can’t get past the shirt Ken. :D. Love your style.
Hahaha!
Great breakdown as usual Ken! Love this song, always fun to sing 🎶🎶
Rock on!
Amazing vocals, Ken. When I sing this song, for fun 😊, I pause at all the high notes 😂.

Your high tone heavy metal vorcal is great and so amazing 🤩. Love this song 🎵 take on me. I like your channel so much. From japan 🎤❣️
Thank you for breaking everything down the way you did. I love this song but the singing part of it seemed so intimidating before. At least now I have a fighting chance! 😅
yes
I wish!😎
Nice A5 in the end :)) I need yo warm up really well to belt it with a lot of struggle. You have said that you can go up to C6. Is there a video?
Great Job!
That's pretty coo,l I always wanted to learn that song. My confidence is building every time I here you sing it.👍
Amazing job Ken.
Yes Morten Harket is Norwegian.
And he have often strugled with this song the last 15 years. You DID NOT.
So amazing job Ken. Very impressive!!
Morten does not struggle with it. You are talking about one of the greatest vocalists of all time
Killed it, really pulling out those Hagar genetics haha just kidding. Enjoying your course by the way very informative and helpful!

Ken tramplin took on himself and he'll be back in a day or two!
I can sing this, but I have to manage my air really deliberately. Such a great tune. #IAMSTILLHOLDING
What do you think of Marc Martel's cover of Take On Me?
Hey have any idea why the cover was taken down from TH-cam? It was such a great one I would listen to it so much and now it’s gone.
Removed by the artist.
You did it !
Thank you for this song. And a belated Happy Birthday 12/11
Thank you!!!

Hi Ken, I have a question, I bought the 2.0 version of KTVA, so is there a reason why I should buy the 3.0 version? Do u have a video explaining it? Love to hear u about it!
In 3.0 I answer several years worth of questions and am making continual updates. 3.0 has the most up to date content.
wow you are an amazing voice teacher although it's really hard to hit high notes and some falsetto for most non-singers.. i enjoy your content on every song you try to teach to everyone... keep it up!
How about how to sing Hunter Of The Damned by Claymorean Dajana Betsa Garcevic is a great singer.
You sing this kind of music a lot better than I expected. Sounds great.
