Cracking interview and well done to both. With all that Daryl had to deal with last season, his answers resonated and he is right about change, culture, building long lasting foundations etc. Perhaps I am a fool to believe, but he is tackling what needs to be tackled. He is in a better position to deliver than he was 12 months ago. God bless The Wire 😉
Smacker 1 second ago Great idea for a debrief. Brian Carney is a terrific, indeed forensic, interviewer. It's simple. What the fans want Daryl is confidence to compete regularly with the likes of Saints, Wigan, Leeds, Catalans and whoever as they did routinely in the Smith and Price eras with away wins against the odds and home victories that raised the roof. This is absent currently and that would be a start for me. I think though you are an honest and decent bloke and of course you have a stellar playing career that was rooted in the history of our game pre-Super League and that deserves respect.
Well done Brian Carney on the way he led the interview and making sure his questions were answered. Let's hope we start the 2023 season running come on the Wire
Good to hear some of that stuff, need to see how that change takes place - fan engagement with the club is a major priority - don’t treat us like fools and that’s honestly how I’ve felt
Well done WW for a candid 2022 review. Good to see Daryl come up to the plate, even if at times he was still a little defensive. Good call to get Brian in to do the questioning. He himself is a Wire and can put himself into a Wire fans shoes. He did not let DP airbrush over some answers. I respect Brian could have been tougher but a moderate line I think was in balance. Unfortunately neither picked up on the fans away at Wigan before the Toulouse relegation game. We the fans recognised that the team needed to know we were behind them vocally and visually at the JJB regardless that it was a sure fire loss. It was needed to take the pressure off the boys for the game 6 days after.
Hopefully this is onwards and upwards for 2023. We were not stupid thinking that 2022 was going to be a transition season I just don't think we expected it to be THAT bad. I appreciate Daryl coming forward and trying to bring us back onside. It's our club and we just want to win games and be proud of the boys week in week out and it was difficult to do that this season. Anything is better than last season, right ? 😂
I hope the changes being made bear fruit. Worried that a team went from top 4 with a good defence to suddenly conceding almost double the number of points. That is a big swing in a short period of time. It is interesting to note that we scored at about the same rate as the year before which leaves us with a question - was that huge down swing solely because of the issues highlighted by DP or were we actually set up better by our two previous, albeit, defence minded, coaches? First 6 games will show, and I truly hope it is the former.
Mmm I'm not convinced that 2023 will be any better based on this. The team he inherited finished 4th the season before and one of the best sides defensively. Something doesn't seem to tally.
He trys to coach above his station, he never returned to Leeds. Has was said would happen, when Leeds sacked him. Then set Smith on.. Personally think he's a muniplitive coach..
To be fair I think Powell will do alright next season. He is a good coach. He built the leeds team more or less anyway in the golden era. Leeds didn't really give him the chance at the time, he was fresh going into the coaching. He coached featherstone all them years and finished top every year. Cas were crap and were finishing 2nd from bottom, Powell comes and they are straight into the cc final same year. He did well with what money cas could afford. Going to wolves he has wanted to change things up abit where he wanted players to play to his style. Alot of players didn't want to that's why half of them went elsewhere. He is recruiting alot for next season and if he can get the players to gel next season then wolves will be easily competing to be champions.

We were actually 3rd!
No wonder Chris Hill went to Yorkshire, n led the Yorkshire outfit on and off the field..
Always thought Daryl Powell to be a decent bloke, but has anybody thought that perhaps he's not quite the coaching maestro he's made out to be?
