Legends ...... all three of them, Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey), John Farnham (Farnsey) and Mark Lizotte aka Johnny Diesel aka Diesel who is Jimmy Barnes brother in law (their wives are sisters). Thanks for appreciating Aussie talent.....You've already discovered so much, but buckle up, as no doubt you'll be taken on a journey by my fellow Australian musical fans.
Notice how far Farnsey holds the mike away from his mouth and closer to the others so he doesn't overpower them. He does that with everyone he sings with so they get their moment. He is selfless, professionally and in normal life.
AFL rabbit hole meets Oz music rabbit hole = Hunters and Collectors song Holy Grail is played at AFL Grand Final…… check it out…another huge Oz rock band ❤
Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham recorded and released "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby" as the second single from Barnes' fifth studio album, Soul Deep. Jimmy was very generous with the space he gave John on this track. They were both very generous with the space and support they gave each other, instead of trying to compete as many other artists would have done. Superb individual vocals and superb harmonies. They are both total powerhouses. Both GOATS.
Their best mates and always have been. When Barnsey found out Farnsey had cancer he everything and flew to his side. Good old Aussie mateship, ya can't beat it!! 😍
Hey Mate, I love that your getting into our music I’ve grown up on the music & other Australian music The guitarist, who was also singing is Diesel Who has also got a band Diesel and the injectors there music is permanently on my playlist also please have a look into INXS there music is so good. Enjoy 😃
Maybe not your normal music taste but Vanessa Amorosi at the Sydney 2000 Olympics “Heroes “. You’d never believe she was 19 singing in front thousands and of billions people around the world❤😮
For a change of pace, John Farnham & Olivia Newton John did a duet called Please Don’t Ask Me. They are also great friends, but the chemistry in this ballad is overpowering. Live performance at the Main Event concert.
this was recorded on a variety show called Hay hay its Saturday so yes its a TV show and those pecky lottery numbers did pop up. This show had many great stars come on and perform live . One of them was Tom Jones who did an impromptu duet with John Farnham called my Yiddish mother . You could see the mutual respect they had for each other. A fantastic off the cuff performance that left people stunned. If you are going into Cold Chisel I hope its Bow river , the 2003 performance is the cream of them all, you wont believe the harmonica player.
Our amazing John is so adored here in Australia. I have been lucky enough to have seen him live many times over the years - truly amazing. John is always incredible live but on this one occasion I prefer the studio version.
You need to check out more Chisel songs too, "When the war is over" is a beautifully written song and "You got nothing I want" is basically an up yours to their American label who showed little interest for them during a US tour they did
Some great suggestions by others. One song, "When the war is over", originally done by Cold Chisel, but also done as Barnsey/Farnsey duet and solo by John. You might also get a kick out of another Aussie band Spiderbait and their cover of "Black Betty"
Agree 100% with you regards they are giving it their all. I think that's what defines a great artist....it's because they 'feel' the words they sing....They bring it to us with such emotion and truth. I am loving your reactions to our Aussie singers. You might (or might not lol) consider viewing a duet John did with Olivia Newton John (who recently passed away) it is a beautiful love song, "Please Don't Ask Me" sung so convincingly that ppl often wonder if they were a couple. (no John is still married to the same women) but I guess I'd like to hear your analysis of him singing in this genre. He also done a little light opera and played Jesus in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar (a flawless and mind blowing performance.) Ok back to you mate. Love from Australia
Funny thing i find is that while everyone loves John and Jimmy, they actually do forget the forefathers of Australian music that came just before. Some of them actually supplied Farnham with content to sing. You should check out *To Love Somebody, Tribute to Maurice Gibb, Marcia Hines, Brian Cadd, Max Merritt, Doug Parkinson*. The Old Boys that Marcia are singing with were the Legendary Australian vocalists of the time before Farnham and Barnes and herself. Also check out Marcia Hines and Jimmy Barnes singing Fire and Rain in their little studio interview. It shows the beautiful gentler side on Jimmy's vocal abilities. Marcia is another Legendary Aussie singer. Born in America she came here at 16 to perform for the Broadway of Jesus Christ Superstar, and never left.
Of course there were many great artists before John and Jimmy but they have stood the test of time and deserve the adulation they receive. The Bee Gees are not forgotten, Marcia Hines is so respected here in the Australian Music Industry. If I remember correctly, John Farnham and Bee Gees preceded Marcia Hines by a few years. Max Merritt and Doug Parkinson and many others all came from the same era. Might check with Mr Google.
@@suerussell1207 Don't need google. Max, and Doug who were in their mid to late 70's when they died came from the generation just before John. Brian who was also from Max and Doug's generation and is a only a few years older than John however he started as a young child which is how he was from Max and Dougs generation. In comparison John was a young adult when he started. Bee Gee's were from the generation before Max, Doug and Brian. As for Marcia, she is roughly from John's generation and started young as we all know. My entire point is that sadly Max, Doug and Brian are somewhat forgotten these days by many.
Love your reviews.. John Farnham also did a Song from Cold Chisel called "When the war is over" . You would love this song and the performance John gives. PS: Pick Essendon Bombers to follow in the AFL you won't be Disappointed. Up and coming side that plays marquee games
John Farnham is my #1 favourite singer, followed by Freddie Mercury. Being Australian, I grew up listening to John, Cold Chisel/Jimmy Barnes and Diesel. I feel so lucky that I grew up in the era of great Pub Rock bands! Thanks for the reaction, you have a new subscriber! 😀
You don't last that long in the music industry unless you are totally connected to the music and feeling it. Both (actually all 3 ) of these guys live and I mean LIVE for music, and the audiences know that. The passion and soul they sing with is just bursting from every pore in their body. Another one of my favourite songs from John Farhham you can see true passion is "One". He first recorded it back in 1969 during his Teen Idol period. It certainly stood the test of time as John continued to perform it o and off throughout his career adjusting the arrangement and timbre of his voice to suit the time. This version is from the late 80's and it sounds like a great Rock Ballad. m.th-cam.com/video/FdNEKwMf1LQ/w-d-xo.html And this is a video of him singing it back I the 60's so that you can get an idea of the journey he has gone on and how his voice and style developed. I am such a John Farnham fan, but this song Stone Cold by Jimmy is absolutely AMAZING....and the guitar work simply fills your would. Do yourself a favour. You're welcome 😄
Yeah don't be embarrassed Johnny when I was 25 in '90 and went to UK for 3yrs, nobody had heard of John Farnham or Cold Chisel. They had heard of AC/DC and that was about it. Absolutely, we grew up with UK and USA music - and our own Aussie music - how lucky are we. But finally countries overseas are discovering our music industry we’ve had to ourselves for many decades 😊
I don't know if someone has said this before but the great Freddy mercury said John Farnham had one of the best voices he had ever heard, and after Freddie passed he was offered the job by Queen to be their front man..John said no of course because he didn't want to relocate overseas..Thanks to the internet really because many people like you would have been deprived of the legendary gift which is John Farnham...

Why can't Australian bands and singers get air play on the American radio? But Air Supply and Little River Band got air play in The States. Wow done Johnny your doing a great job

Well, what more can I say about these guys that you haven't already. It's not without trying, that many Aussie artists couldn't crack the USA, but most of them don't like being dictated to by anyone, let alone record producers. Their music is theirs and nobody's gonna change that. Cold chisel did try, but were poorly advertised as a heavy metal band, aside from other kinds of mismanagement.
