But this guy ( and his very understanding supportive wife) Some of you guys made broad comments without watching his previous video where he spent "Hours" testing this coating on a lawn mower. A great test by the way. Look at that video before you cowardly take pot shots from the bushes. This guy did as pro as a job as any to test,, this as an alternative to more expensive cerakote. Great job !
I know that imperfections on the piston tops from castings are there...have you considered weighing these pistons to ensure they’re all within the allowable margin from one to another? The closer you match the piston, dowel pins and rods in weight the less imbalance you cause on the crankshaft.
The flameproof vht holds well as long as you brush off rust and use a wax and grease remover. I built headers for a Saturn and the have been good so far holding the paint
I'd be really surprised if this lasts and I would be worried about it peeling up under combustion and fuel then causing detonation. And you have to etch the piston. One thing I've always wanted to try is nikasil cylinder coating but on top of the piston. And I don't know enough about electrolytic plating but I'd also like to do the combustion chamber and face of the valves. I think the problem would be you would end up coating the whole cylinder head and that would be a problem... maybe it wouldn't?
I know this is old but.....What is the thickness of the paint? Your compression went up. Piston-to-valve clearances should be checked if you are running a milled head.
Eric The Red , First don’t use the garbage rattle can stuff he did. It WILL fail. I’ve built nhra engines for 24 years. If you want to coat a piston top , only use quality ceramic coatings. First the piston top must be blasted with aluminum oxide , heated to 350 degrees for an hour, removed cooled , soaked in acetone for 1 hour, dried , reheated , coated with Cerakote then baked again for 1hr at 400 degrees . Whatever you do don’t use the product this guy used. It will fail and chip
This engine is still not completed due to budget reasons but we are still test inside a small engine. Something worth noting is we sprayed a test part and then try to remove the coating with aircraft paint stripper, xylene, gasoline, and e85. The only result we got was xylene removed some of the color. Part was soak for 7 days.
What are your thoughts about polishing the piston tops? They looked pretty rough. There is an interesting port and polish video on TH-cam where he mirror polishes the combustion chamber to avoid hotspots. The ycp poison seems like it's all hotspots, including the arrow.
It is and 2000 degree, before I condone ppl doing this we have only done small scale test on a lawnmower engine but are close to doing a full scale test.

Painting piston tops with VHT engine paint ... OMG ... I once captured some fog in a jar, I think it's time to let it out & paint it in VHT engine paint.

What brand and color paint did you use for your block?It looks really good.
That looks like AMC Blue which is I believe Seymore EN-66 paint. If not it is very close to it.
I'd like to see a shot of the pistons after a few thousand miles. Any issues?

Chris Burns the pistons look to be cast in someone's backyard in a sand box. I never seen any that rough! Who coats pistons for a decent price ??

Did this hold up?? Petrol is full of solvents and it's a pretty harsh environment inside the cylinders

The primer was also vht.
I have my doubts that this coating will last for any reasonable amount of time inside of an engine. Like 100% doubtful.

Look on vhtpaint.com and go look at the Flameproof brand of paint.VHT claims you can use it on piston domes.
