@@DonCurrywurst I don’t hate returns but Tropical Freeze is a huge improvement over it and IM hoping for a new dk game announcement in the upcoming Nintendo direct
Oh man, I have been a Donkey Kong Country fan since I was 4 years old. Man, I loved the series. This game looks good to me and I'd love to play it. And I am glad that David Wise did the music for this game. That guy is a legend
For people looking foward to this game i really recommend playing "Kaze and the Wild Masks" It's another plataformer very reminiscent of DKC and a bit of Rayman Origins
That Marsupilami 2D platformer was also heavily inspired by DKCTF. Very underated. This one looks like it has great potential so will add to my Steam wishlist. I love platformers where you take control of unconventional niche animals. Would be cool to see one where you play as a badger or a weasel
you might as well add dk, diddy, dixie, other dk characters, and call it donkey kong country. i was also happy to hear david wise would be helping. i love his work. but that just proves my point.
Windswept is another upcoming DKC-like game that I would absolutely recommend looking up. There's a demo on Steam that already checks all the boxes of what I want in a 2D platformer.
I’m a donkey kong fan and this looks good. Hope the music is good. The music is a BIG part in donkey kong. And it syncs so well with the platforming. It’s like a rythm game at times. At least tropical freeze haven’t played the other donkey kong country.
Definitely gonna keep my eye on this one. Even if it doesn't review well, I'll have to check out the David Wise soundtrack. Also, this is the third game I know of since Tropical Freeze that is trying to completely emulate the DKC gameplay (after the Yooka Laylee sequel and Kaze and the Wild Masks). I wonder if Nintendo is ever gonna take the hint and finally release a new game in the series.
This looks cool! I'm a fan of the Donkey Kong Country series. This is definitely very similar to the later games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. I guess this is more like a 2.5D platformer but then also switches to 3D gameplay. That's interesting. I like the slide attack that Niko does and that floating parachute ability in this game. I'm surprised that David Wise did the soundtrack for this so that's cool!
It's very welcome too see a game like this coming out nowadays. It's becoming more and more rare today. The atmosphere is not top tier like the country series was, it's more like the retros' DK, and they were not capable to emulate the magic of Rare's DK on the aeshetic and atmosphere. But that's ok. The BIG RED FLAG I see, although, is just one: He has 3 hearts of life.... This will cause the same problem of Retro's DK. In country games if you get hit, you die, or you loose one of the two buddies. You were allowed only two hits. But in Retro games, they double that. And if you are with a buddy, you have FOUR hearts. Even if the game is hard, is almost impossible to die by getting hit, just by falling. It caused a serious problem. Don't get me wrong, the games were pretty hard (in the good way), but It caused a disbalanced at the "hardness" of the game. The overly majority of the deaths is by falling (90%+), and barely by hit. It appears that the same problem could occour with this game.
You guys missed Kaze and the Wild Masks? Also a great DKC throwback, and possibly a little less derivative feeling than this new one.. although I'm keen to try this also.
Do people not know that David Wise was not the only composer for Donkey Kong Country? Eveline Fischer was also a composer for the game and her songs are just as grand as David's
Why do you have so much horizontal acceleration that you can't slow down without immediately going the other way? Why is the camera so rigidly following the player character? Why are the hooks you can grab on to so hard to see? Why are there sections with very low visual contrast between the foreground and background?
Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that crash bandicoot isn’t far off from what DKC would be if translated to 3D. The slide jump in crash serves a similar purpose to the roll jump, for example.
There are not enough dangers (no pikes on platform, etc), ennemies seems absloutely harmless (they don't fight, they throw nothing, etc), as a result true lack of challenge and visualy not iconic enough. Maybe the backgrounds are not enough animated too I don't know... But this need more a little bit dark identity to that we feel like we're living a big adventure. But I like the rest, the game has a huge potential, it's so frustrating 😅 And David Wise is so promissing. I want to dream a little with this game without again a FPS or a souls-like 😩 Please do your best 🙏🏻
I'm just excited for a new platformer that isn't a metroidvania or has randomly generated levels. I'll always support stuff like this, even if the game looks quite derivative. We simply do not have enough traditional sidescrollers like this anymore.
Looks great, except for the designs of the two main characters. They look really like generic furry characters, while the main villain and every enemy really look stylized.
you keep talking about donkey kong country but it feels more like Crash Bandicoot to me, apart from the side scrolling. Crash has a slide attack, so Niko's slide is more like Crash than Donkey Kong. I also see a bit of Rayman in this game too, such as the hooks you grab and swing on and the fireflies you collect are like the Lums in Rayman games.
I see the crash inspirafiom, inspiration, I don't see dkc inspiration in this one bit, I do see the dkc wanna be returns and tropical freeze that don't play anything like dkc , wich so far is only 3 and theirvon snes
Game looks good, I'm very happy to see more games of this kind. I won't lie though, I could do without the cookie-cutter furry character design. Fortunately, that's about the only criticism I've got so far.
You mean the company who has made the same game like 5 times over now?! They are basically iterating on Demon's Souls with each SoulsBourneRing games. The formula is great, it works, and fun and we always want more. So, we cannot complain. But you cannot call Elden Ring original, considering it is an expanded vision of Dark Souls 3 basically.
that music from minute 16 oh my God, sooo beautiful and soo dkc2 style and soo revive of the 90's 😍 I'm soo grad they hired the Legend David Wise an did not use that diarrhea music from the first trailer.
game looks awesome but the main characters are super generic and the name from the game itself too. and charme is why i play those games. thats why i still love yooka laylee
We don't want to hear a couple dudes talk, we want to hear the music/SFX of the game. Just put everything you're talking about into an article and give us the raw gameplay without people talking over it.
Go back to COD and GTA then damn. I am almost 30 and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this game as long as it has the same difficulty curve of Tropical Freeze.
This looks gorgeous! Having David Wise on the OST is a cherry on top of the sundae! I've wishlisted this!
David wise is one of my favorite composers his music is just amazing
@@matthewbuckley7757 Same. Thats why tropical freeze grabbed me directly while Returns didnt.

You can hear some of the David Wise-esque music over the chatter. Sounds really good!

Was searching for this comment, so I didn’t have to recommend Kaze myself. Love this game.
Speaking of which,do you think Kaze deserves a sequel?
Definitely digging those backgrounds. The character absolutely fails at evoking "mongoose," but I'm sure it's very appealing to a specific audience.
But it doesn't really matter tbh. Sonic doesn't look like a hedgehog much at all and no one really complains.
I apologize for anwering to a 3 month comment but don't forgett that Crash doesn't even look like a bandicoot lol.

Marsupilami Hoobadventure is so darn good, absolutely worth playing!
I loved Marsupialami. Just wish it was a little more challenging.
Marsupilami iş the best dkcr 'clone'
This character looks like Crash Bandicoot trying to be in a Donkey Kong game.
also seems similar to 2d rayman games
I just put this on my steam wishlist it looks pretty good and having David wise as the composer is an automatic win for me
For DKC fans, in the meantime, check out Kate and the Wild Masks. Absolutely scratches the itch.
Kaze*

Thank you for the great overview! Only 3 deaths in the Riptor's Rage level - the best result we've seen from new players! :))
In the meantime, they should also play Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, secretly one of the best DKC games.
Wrong.
Kaze and the Wild Masks is another DKC-esque game that's really good.
@@PC2000 Oh, thanks for the reminder, looks like it's on sale.
@@ChrisLT I second Kaze, that game is fantastic if you like DKC games. I just wish it was a little longer or had post-game content.
@@KyleBogdanMusic Yep, just picked it up since it's currently under $5. Looks like just what I was looking for.
Now it all makes sense why the enemies are snakes, because mongooses and snakes are natural enemies in real life.

PLAY Marsupilami . it is great
They don't even tried to hide it, thats something the bothers me, sure you can't get inspired, but this is a copy. Im DK fan btw.
Weird they even use the banana sound effect from DKC. Too bad it has to be a hell sent furry character.

I find the character design a bit corny for some reason. Like they tried too hard to make him look "cool"
