Zucchini.... I’m a old man trying to find a new hobby. Actually just started learning, and you taught me more than most. Thank you for your time... I turned the bell on.. look forward for more insightful knowledge.
Hopefully not too old (to start painting) woman, trying to start back up with painting, and whatching more videos than doing the actual painting. Can anyone relate? With the watching more videos than actually painting part?
@@minettevanheerden8884 I was afraid I wouldn't be very good and was just watching the videos. My first painting actually came out so much better than I expected! So now I am painting with the videos and building confidence. Art is so personally expressive and wonderful. Enjoy the journey
I watched all the way through brilliant I’ve refound my love of painting at over 70 years old and found this very helpful. Thank you. Wish I was younger as struggle with technology you make zooming in the reference photo look so easy. In the middle of this corona virus here in England but not in lockdown so have more time on my hands to paint. I’ve spent the last 48 years of my life volunteering helping others understand the bible and its prophecies now its time to paint. THANK YOU 😊
Haha I love this comment 🤗 I am thinking about trying my hand at painting too. (Inbetween studying the Bible though, I only have 2 years under my belt) God Bless Janet, I hope you are still doing well through all this mess! 🙏😃
This is one of the best painting tutorials I've seen on TH-cam. Mostly because Lena doesn't insist on her choice of technique and colors is the best. Thus she encourages every Young artist to experiment with their own ideas. Many thanks, Lena.
I'm another old(er) man chiming in to say thanks for your videos. They've been MOST helpful with my launch into oils. Something as seemingly simple as how to clean brushes left me dazed and confused when I found 10 different ways of doing it in 10 different posts. I realize that there are many ways to do things, but I find your message very clear, consistent and credible. I like your gentle and methodical approach to all of your posts. You are an excellent teacher. Thanks.
I have never painted a single painting in my life and did this one. It wasn’t Rembrandt, but it wasn’t terrible, either. Thanks for posting. It really helped.
zucchini. As a beginner, I can't thank you enough. I have been avoiding my paints for months due to 'painting' anxiety. After watching your tutorial, you have re-sparked my love for painting. I will definitely be watching your other tutorials. THANK YOU
dejavous666 happy painting! I just picked mine back up (I was a novice at best, but mostly just self taught) today and I’m so glad I did. I felt like I was missing a part of me this past year. I love her videos!
Lena it was very helpful😍. But please, when you have time, make a full tutorial about the portraits. Gridding, toning, mixing flesh tones. I d like to see the gridding part so much❤
EsSa ART I Think she does all that for her patreons , in real time I think. Have you heard of patreon ? It’s where creators of all kinds share their knowledge

So many great tips here. Really wrll explain and I find your way of teaching really empowering for any beginner. Here is something about oiling out and syncing in that can help. Using solvent in the underpainting or in the painting overall is somethinging that will make your paint sync more in your substrate. It's because of how it make it thinner so it will be more easily absorb. You can correct that by using bodied(stand) oil in your underpainting. Also oiling out on your last layer is really not the best practice has it will create a yellow layer on top, correcting syncing in at the end is more effective with certain type of varnishes like Laropol varnish. I hope those little things can help you in your process.
I never knew how to paint with oil paints but you made me understand them
