    Beautiful piece. I know it was expensive. But getting to hold and listen to that piece of wood is a gift from God. I know you paid good money for it. Congratulations on your find. I can't wait to see the handles.

    I would just have it sitting on a shelf by my bench and just spend my hours admiring it . Absolutely amazing piece .

      I know !!!!! It may very well stay whole for a while. The thought of cutting it makes me tremble. ❤️

      You’re welcome and thank you for watching. My effort to learn more of the “history” behind Brazilian rosewood totes and knobs continues, and I’ll be sure to share as I can.

      I bought it for totes and knobs so that’s what’s going to happen. I just haven’t decided which sizes and the quantity. It’s this enough that I can almost get two layers of No1 totes. But No1 owners don’t usually want new or repro parts so it’s probably a combo of 2,3,4 & 5.

    I did what you said, I grabbed a drink and watched your video and now I am green with envy. That is one beautiful piece of Rosewood. Looking forward to see what you do with it.

    Have you ever considered using KOA from the big island? KOA is graded in 8 different categories. Last time I checked the very best grade was over $170 per B/F/ . Koa is also a tone wood used on very high musical instruments.

      I have a niece on the big island…. You would think I’d have some Koa ! But no, I’ve not worked with it. And yes I’m familiar with it being a tone wood. 👍

    Made another "flaming Wilbur" Ice, Grey Goose, Newman's limeade and a splash cranberry juice(not cran cocktail) don't tell the boys down at the lodge but I haven't bought any bourbon awhile!

    I have no idea what a board foot is, what's a rough cost for this specific board ? Just curious :)

    • @gordonaddison307
      @gordonaddison307  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, so a board foot (bft) is twelve inches by twelve inches by one inch. (12x12x1) usually measured in “rough sawn” condition, so a 1x6 that’s 6 linear feet long is technically “3 board feet”. When dealing with exotics such as rosewood and teak, you can rest assured the board is being measured to the faction of an inch and then calculated. Another way to look at it is “144 cubic inches of wood” is a board foot. The board in the video is “hundreds of dollars” 😉
      If you went shopping online, there are a few commercial sources for Dalbergia nigra, (Brazilian rosewood) and you’ll find the bf price wild be anywhere from $250 to $1500 per board foot. Thicker pieces, longer pieces, sapwood or lack thereof all play a factor. And let’s not forget grain… a straight grain plain jane board may not carry as high a price as one with sexy lines and brilliant color variations. Oh and just to give you a comparison, premium Birds Eye maple is running about $22bft right now. 😮
