i love how people don't understand the irony of the world that Homura is in... or rather, the labyrinth. The world she's in is supposed to be the "ideal" magical girl world. a world where they're all happy and together. where cute songs can destroy evil, and all is perfect. kyubey also plays into this act by not talking and just being a cute little creature that makes cute noises. also, the transformation sequence also plays into this, because it's playing off the magical girl stereotype, where in madoka magica, transformation scenes lasted 10 seconds at the absolute LONGEST, with most other transformations literally happening in less than 5 seconds, it just plays into this ideal cutesy bubbly ideal magical girl life and world.

You don't understand, man. I can't stress enough how much I love this scene. The typical magical girls solve problems by shooting oversized beams from their staffs to banish evil. Here, they sing a sweet song akin to a ritual.

I have seen a lot of people complain about this scene, saying it doesn't fit or was the worst scene in the move, let alone the entire series. I just want to say this scene, in particular the lyrics, was masterfully done. The playful banter within the lyrics is just genius. They are seemingly "training" Charlotte, yet calling out that each one of them is the cake, all the while essentially prodding every sad part / feels that this series has within the very same lyrics. 10/10
Yes, not to mention the rhythm, beats, gestures and position of the girls forms a pentagram. They're basically both mesmerizing and casting a spell. During the early scenes, the juxtaposition of the images during the transformation is eerily reminiscent of the witches of the show. These version of the team is not quite magical girl, not quite witch. Plus they do everything else you mention too, juxtaposing a playful round with some of the most brutal moments in the show. Madoka in general is 100/10.
Fruit symbolisms: Sayaka: Sayaka says she is the raspberry, and raspberries are a symbol of kindness, showing her love of justice and generosity, but it can also depict fragility, referencing her fragile mental state which led to her transformation into a which in the series. Not only that but it was thought to help fertility in young women, which could be a clever way to call us back to sayakas "re-birth" as a witch, and the hatching of her grief seed. Kyoko: Kyoko is shown as an apple, to the surprise of no one. Apples were viewed as the devils fruit in t Weahe bible, which is in reference to her father, who was a priest. When her father found out she was a magical girl, he had a breakdown and called her a witch, which was actually foreshadowing, but now it just shows how her fathers words affected her, and what he saw her as. Mami: Mami is depicted as cheese, which is a symbol of happiness, representing how the other magical girls idolized her, even though she was in reality weak and quite fragile. It is worth mentioning that cheese is Bebe/Nagisas favorite food, and the reason behind her wish, which shows the connection the two have, which makes Mamis demise in Bebes hands, or should i say mouth, all the more meaningful and tragic. Homura: Homura is a pumpkin, and this is a huge dose of foreshadowing. Pumpkins were thought to be carriages, shown in Cinderella, and pumpkins are full of seeds, warning us of Homuras actual state in the very beginning. Pumpkins also represent blessings, or wishes. Do i really need to say more about that? OK BUT GET THIS. Not only does it represent wishes, but it also symbolizes dreams, which is obviously where the girls are for most of the movie. But i think one of the best parts is the symbolic meaning behind pumpkin vines, which depict friendship and connection, i.e. the whole reason our gals in this mess. It may also be referencing Homuras connection with the outside world, or her connection with Godoka, which allowed her to get into the labyrinth in the first place. Weak vines show weak faith and the feeling of loss, which grows in homu throughout the movie as she is forced to find the witch in her little band of friends, only to find the culprit to be herself. Withering vines ALSO show a dying connection with the outside world, which is extremely important to the whole plot. It is also the symbolic equivalent of the egg, which could be soul gems, and the pomegranite, which Hades, the king of the underworld, possibly represented by Homura here, used to trap Persophone, the goddess of flowers, whos role is given to Madoka. It is also worth mentioning it was thought to be able to deliver SOULS. Madoka: "A traveller in the East who recollects the intense gratitude which a gift of a slice of melon inspired while journeying over the hot and dry plains, will readily comprehend the regret with which the Hebrews in the Arabian desert looked back upon the melons of Egypt" This coud be the meaning behind the clip in the opening, that showed Homura reaching out to Madoka in a desert, only to have her dissolve, reminding Homura of her failures in her countless attempts at saving her love, and could be used as a way to describe the feelings of witches, which can only feel despair and regret. I find it interesting that Madokas fruit says less about her and more about Homuras attachment to her, which points to the question of whether Madoka is to be considered a character or a concept of love and purity. The cake: The cake itself symbolizes a wish fufilled, which could be speaking of Homuras wish to save Madoka, and how that wish had seemingly come true, how Homura had made her whole labryinth to make sure it came true. Cake was also the wish Mami told Madoka to make after they defeated Bebe, which quickly was out of the question, seeing as the elder had her head ripped off by the sweets witch, ironically.
I think in kioki's case the Apple was the wish. She was eve and kyube the serpent. Her father like Adam didn't asked questions and after he found the truth he blamed eve (kioki) for eating it even though he didn't asked any questions until he already ate the fruit (him having tons of followers out of nowhere) This cool theory is not mine tho
My interpretation was like Cheese: because bebe loves cheese Apple: kyoko's signature food Pumpkin: homura because halloween Melon: madoka because it's pink...? Raspberry: I think they meant blueberry, so sayaka

1:21 I have no idea if it's intentional, but I really like the detail that Kyouko has her hands joined as in a prayer. Considering she has a former religious background and this is akin to an exorcism, it seems very fitting.
When Charlotte/Bebe starts speaking in the coded language, she says something like "mogu mogu ~ bebe?" which could mean "Who will Bebe eat?", because we have learned "mogu~mogu" is used to describe chewing. So basically all the girls are saying this to escape being eating by Bebe, leading Bebe to the Nightmare, aww how sweet... *takes symbols in mind* Erm... Cute?
Marinette It's only really scary in the original world, since Nagisa Momoe wouldn't actually eat any of them, even if she's in her witch snake form here.
Mami didn't passed the test. She said, cheese, which is Nagisa's favorite food. Because of this, Charlotte later eats Mami. Everyone else survived however
Seriously I feel like everybody in these comment is a literal mastermind. This is the definition of looking between the lines. I myself would have never thought of all these meanings behind the scenes and the details. I love examining a deeper understanding, but I'm simply not that brilliant at connecting all the dots which is why I find it so dang interesting to read these comments who have figured out a ,,bigger picture,, and I'm totally here for it
That's what's so awesome about interpretation these times: since we have little Powercomputers in our pockets we have a better access to meanings of different things and those meaning can be applied to the show again Of course there's always the risk that something is just there because the frame needs to be filled but often times creators but things and scenes on for a reason.
Is funny how I was like Wtf with this song when I was 10 ( i did not saw this anime until i was 15) Now I came back and Im happy that the song Have a meaning now xD
I just realised that the girls cover their faces in a way that represents how they acted in the timeline in the TV series Madoka and Sayaka covering their entire faces could represent their blindness to the magical girl world before Mami Tomoe’s death. It could also represent how ignorant and oblivious Sayaka was to her mental health and could not see how worse she had got. Kyoko covers her mouth while our hands are in a kind of praying sign and only her eyes are visible. The praying obviously represents Kyoko’s backstory, coming from a religious family. The praying covering her mouth could represent how secretive she was of her witch battles for her father and how she put her father’s happiness as more important. Her eyes being the only thing visible could represent how observant and distant she was in the timeline. Mami making an x symbol with her fingers that covered her mouth could represent how she manipulated Madoka and Sayaka into the magical girl world and that her words of being a magical girl is fine was not true. Her eyes being the only thing visible could also represent how distant she was as well like how she sat at the other side of table from Madoka and Sayaka in the apartment scene. Mami also doing a sudden clap after doing the x symbol could represent how sudden her death was in the TV series. Homura not covering any of her face represents how knowledgeable she was of the magical girl world. It could also represent her lack of emotion towards the others and not feeling no fear towards anyone.
i dont think mami manipulated sayaka and madoka, or at least on purpose since she didnt know about the truth, but its true the fact what she said about being a magical girl was wrong
@@humaur5469 Calm down jeez, that "wtf is wrong with you" was so unnecessary. This comment was a year ago and before I actually watched Madoka Magica. This theory was based on what I was told of the show and what I thought each character acted like in the show. Imo, the x symbol now could represent how she put up a front as a confident magical girl but yet kept her true emotions of loneliness and isolation secret.
the order that they are shown is also pretty cool, as they are connected. Bebe to Sayaka - they both work together with Madoka for the Law of Cycles Sayaka to Kyoko - the connection they felt throughout the series leading to them dying together. also a romance is implied within Rebellion, so that could also count. Kyoko to Mami - in the show there isn't a lot, but there's a manga series about a timeline where they are partners. Mami to Homura - their upcoming fight in the movie. Homura to Madoka: both Homura's feelings for Madoka and also her being the reason why Madoka is there in the first place.
This is one of the most epic things that I've uncovered in my recent time of watching anime. This is just amazing. This is so extremely well acted. Upon first having come across this scene, I was confused over whether it was intended for it to be a rhythmic cital or not. I've proceeded to rewind the movie some 10 friggin' times in a row, just rewatching this. And I've paused the movie to watch this again. This is just so mightily well executed.
"the round cake is red" - Kyokos main Color is red "the round cake loves bebe" - THey seem to be really Close to one another "the round cake goes round in circles" - Homura as she always repeats time "the round cake is sweet" - well... somehow describes Madoka as it could be reffering to her cuteness. admit it. she is the cutest one of them all (except for bebe)
How on earth did you hear "chi-ga-ru" in that scene with the context already my boi Like, how did you think _"earth - particle for subject of an action - ru (?)"_ even connected to any that was being said there??

Theory: Sayaka-She says shes the raspberry.Maybe it represents her magical girl self and her witch self.It could also represent her black and white worldview. Kyoko-She says shes the apple.Apples are red, like her theme color.Maybe it represents her change from a happy girl to a angry girl. Mami-She says shes the cheese.Cheese is yellow and Charlottes fav food right? This explains why Charlotte uhm...oofed her in episode 3 in the series. The clap she did after making a X symbol could represent how early and sudden her demise was. Homura-She says she the pumpkin.Pumpkin are often assosiacted with magic and other stuff right? Maybe it represents rebellions world being a witches labrythin, which is hers. Madoka-She says shes the melon. The line "when a melon breaks,it creates a sweet dream"probably represents the end of the movie, where Homura, ahem, splits madoka and god madoka apart. It could also represent how the start of the movie is sweet and happy, like a dream, tho the reality is much darker.
I swear, there has to be some hidden message in this, talking to our subconcious. This is so weird. It looks like a kids game with fitting music, but the music sounds somehow menacing the same time. This combined with some weird lyrics, slight symbolism and the LSD-trip that is the background... makes for some weirdly addictive shit.
You forgot about cheese line from Mami. Charlotte loves cheese, Mami's hair is yellow, reminds her of cheese, and Charlotte ate Mami and she's the cheese.
Alan Scott Well, that's all included in "slight symbolism". Sayaka's the raspberry, because the sweet and sour taste of it fits her personality. The melon is sweet, but it doesn't have a very intense flavour. Just like madoka. She's a sweet girl and all, but if she wasn't a magical girl, she's one of those people who would instantly disappear in the crowd, because she just doesn't stand out so much. (That's my interpretation btw) As to why Homura is the pumpkin... I have no Idea... I rarely ever eat pumpkin. Tastes a bit like potatoes if you put it in Ragout. That doesn't mean that Homura's a stupid potato, btw. Maybe it means that she's a tough nut to crack, but soft and tasty on the inside (a bit like a coconut, but it fits the pumpkin as well and even the melon). Maybe, since the pumpkin has no destinct flavour (as I said, it tastes like a potato) and can't really go alone in any case, because it would taste plain boring, there has to be some other ingredient, being Madoka. Madoka also doesn't have intense flavour, but they amplify each others personality and point in the story. Without Madoka, Homura would be dead (and before that she was just a normal girl without anything special aside her being sickly). And without Homura, Madoka would be dead (or a normal magical girl that would stand out from a normal crowd, but not from a crowd of magical girls.) Hmm... If I start interpreting scenes I just can't stop. Sorry for the wall of text :D.
Esta cancion tiene mucho simbolismo como Kyoko es la manzana, Mami el queso y Homura la calabaza (simobolo de noche de brujas) o simplemente....el autor se fumo una buena

This clip is 100x funnier when you know that Sayaka and Nagisa both know that this is Homura’s labyrinth, and they just go along with it all anyway.
Actually, Nagisa looks at her heavily in the start ( 0:11 )
Also, the fact that sayaka is the first person that bebe accuses of being the cake
@@MoohochTHE WINNER agrees 👍
They're probably just glad and saddened that despite her outward behavior, this is all homura wants. She truly does not want her friends to die or seeking to hurt them.

なるほど。有難うございます。
I have seen a lot of people complain about this scene, saying it doesn't fit or was the worst scene in the move, let alone the entire series.
I just want to say this scene, in particular the lyrics, was masterfully done. The playful banter within the lyrics is just genius. They are seemingly "training" Charlotte, yet calling out that each one of them is the cake, all the while essentially prodding every sad part / feels that this series has within the very same lyrics. 10/10
+CLxJames 100 % agreed. At first I simply thought of it as funny but after rewatching the whole anime I changed my mind ^^
+CLxJames what? this was one of the best scenes imo, with the scene in the flowerfield tied in 1st place
CLxJames fuck whoever said that because it's supposed to not fit in since *cough*

It's full of mindfuckery. what did you expect

Fruit symbolisms:
Sayaka: Sayaka says she is the raspberry, and raspberries are a symbol of kindness, showing her love of justice and generosity, but it can also depict fragility, referencing her fragile mental state which led to her transformation into a which in the series.
Her father like Adam didn't asked questions and after he found the truth he blamed eve (kioki) for eating it even though he didn't asked any questions until he already ate the fruit (him having tons of followers out of nowhere)
This cool theory is not mine tho

When Charlotte/Bebe starts speaking in the coded language, she says something like "mogu mogu ~ bebe?" which could mean "Who will Bebe eat?", because we have learned "mogu~mogu" is used to describe chewing. So basically all the girls are saying this to escape being eating by Bebe, leading Bebe to the Nightmare, aww how sweet...

Seriously I feel like everybody in these comment is a literal mastermind. This is the definition of looking between the lines. I myself would have never thought of all these meanings behind the scenes and the details. I love examining a deeper understanding, but I'm simply not that brilliant at connecting all the dots which is why I find it so dang interesting to read these comments who have figured out a ,,bigger picture,, and I'm totally here for it
That's what's so awesome about interpretation these times: since we have little Powercomputers in our pockets we have a better access to meanings of different things and those meaning can be applied to the show again
Of course there's always the risk that something is just there because the frame needs to be filled but often times creators but things and scenes on for a reason.

I just realised that the girls cover their faces in a way that represents how they acted in the timeline in the TV series
Madoka and Sayaka covering their entire faces could represent their blindness to the magical girl world before Mami Tomoe’s death.
I really like that interpretation ! That's a good analysis
i dont think mami manipulated sayaka and madoka, or at least on purpose since she didnt know about the truth, but its true the fact what she said about being a magical girl was wrong
Mami literally warns sayka ton before making her wish and protected madoka & sayaka w all she could wtf us wrong w you
@@humaur5469 Calm down jeez, that "wtf is wrong with you" was so unnecessary.
Bebe to Sayaka - they both work together with Madoka for the Law of Cycles
Sayaka to Kyoko - the connection they felt throughout the series leading to them dying together. also a romance is implied within Rebellion, so that could also count.

This part is charming! I loved that even though everyone in the theatre was like'wtf is going on?' we all still enjoyed this part and loved the movie!
The symbolism in this song is real...
HARDCORE LEVEL REAL
I feel...life, death, I feel everything while listening to this.
Theory:
Sayaka-She says shes the raspberry.Maybe it represents her magical girl self and her witch self.It could also represent her black and white worldview.
サムネのさやかちゃん可愛すぎ。

Show this to someone who's mever watched anime. You will melt their brain
+Jude-Pierre Nsoki I actually didn't know about the last part. ^^
Urobuchi really is a master at his work.
(That's my interpretation btw)
As to why Homura is the pumpkin... And without Homura, Madoka would be dead (or a normal magical girl that would stand out from a normal crowd, but not from a crowd of magical girls.)
Hmm... If I start interpreting scenes I just can't stop. Sorry for the wall of text :D.
WormyMasterTV (Homura is a pumpkin because witches are often seen with pumpkins. Foreshadowing about how she would become a witch)
Sugar and Spice Mirabelle That actually makes sense. But I think my explanation's okay as well... It doesn't make as much sense, but well... ^^
