The day I showed up to my first FPV Drone race which was a 2 day event was one of the best days of my life! It was also the start of a very fun and obsessed past 4 1/2 years and many more! Merry Christmas FPV Friends!
Imagine showing up to a race and sizing up the competition. You tell yourself you got this in the bag. Right then Evan Turner and the 533 crew comes through the door.
Really great showcase of an AWESOME event!!! All those tips are spot on, know your gear, ask for help, keep other folks in mind, most importantly remember we get to do this and have fun!!!
It would be nice to have in my city Bronx New York I love drone racing I went to a gym in my city they don’t no nothing about it no idea how amazing this hobby is
Incredible flying, I am not sure I could race FPV, but I do want to learn how to fly them. Looking for recommendations for a budget starter kit, I am not ready to build anything, need it to be ready to go. I have a DJI avata 1 with the stick controller so I feel like I could somehow link something to that maybe??? I think something that I could fly inside first would be ideal. Any ideas?
I’m certain you could do it! I regret not putting flying footage in from a variety of skill levels. I’ll work on a video for my favorite budget bundles!
There are standardized tracks for some races so they can be flown around the world, but for most races one person is appointed to be the track designer and designs the track for that day!
Great video Evan! I would like to build a drone for racing but just for me. Am I right that when flying a racing drone, the throttle stick is always almost near the same throttle position the whole flight? Unlike our freestyle flights, we blip the throttle and kill throttle to do some tricks.
happy to give more info ! i do show the tiny trainer at the beginning but not super in depth ! we were all flying these things :) flyfive33.com/products/hdzero-v2-tinytrainer-ready-to-fly
Well, here is a newbie question 😊 If time is calculated from first gate, why do people race to start fast and risk collision? Why not wait a second and then fly "alone"? Area there some points for hitting the first gate first? 🤔
I am not sure about Five33 races, but it is common, that during qualifiers only three consecutive laps time matters and pilots do actually start with delay sometimes. But during eliminations and finals it is often different race format being used, which is called "First to three laps". Meaning that whoever is first to fly through the track three times - is the winner. In this elimination/finals format - the time starts counting not when first gate is crossed, but when race start is announced. Therefore delaying your start does not make sense anymore. What is more, during Qualifiers, especially when on a few last rounds, it is "healthy" to "train" quick start on the specific course being flown, before eliminations starts.
Sorry not related to the video but I sent a couple of emails to your company last week and didn’t get a response back. I assume out of the office until the holidays are over?
Hey! Please follow up and we’ll get it taken care of. Support@flyfive33.com is the email and please let me know if you need anything immediately at 865-776-1984
The main problem with asking someone for help at a race is going to be getting them to stop explaining. You might need a bat or something. We are a special people.

Are tracks standardized or just built to the whim of the race promoter? Congratulations btw and Merry Christmas.

Throttle is definitely more consistently near the top, but we still blip it occasionally!
@headsupfpv awesome! Thank you! Happy Holidays!😊
Posting before Not Sure! 😆
You’re the winner hahahaha
😫
I wish you show in the video of what kind of drone there using or just their race setup.

You are absolutely right, and there are 2 answers for it. 1. You risk a midair by having a ton of people in front of you to pass and 2. Ego. Haha
@headsupfpv ah, right. Good point. Actually, two good points 😊 Awesome flying, btw 🤘
