Morris Minor breakdown

- Josphine the 1958 Morris Minor broke down on me yesterday. Cause unknown, possibly fuel pump, investigating shortly. Had to call the recovery people, was too dangerous to tinker by the side of the road.

Next time try to be more patient, it may of overheated.
You should be able to hear/feel the fuel pump. If not, give it a whack.
I tried hitting it with a big screwdriver, but it didn't seem to do much. I'm ordering a proper SU one with points today. She had a cheap sealed non-serviceable one unfortunately 🙁
I would start first time if you pulled my starter knob ❤
Minors had their problems, served my time on them but they were easy to fix. Fuel pump was just about it. In this day and age I would always have a spare, along with points and con.
Yes I have been putting together a dedicated toolkit and spares to keep in the boot !

My mom also had old vw beetle and one day it suddenly break down and doesn't want to start..but my mom didn't give up..but atlast we have to call mechanic 😅

When the fuel issue gets sorted do a few short trips on quiet roads to build faith in the car… I also noticed you topped up the radiator?.. If there are any issues with the cooling system losing coolant try and get it sorted to preserve your engine life… If owning a classic car is new to you give it some time to adjust, they will reward you with smiles per mile.
Yes I am a bit concerned it might happen again, might stick to areas with pavements too ! I was pouring water on the carb, I had a vague idea that it might be vapour lock, and figured would try cooling it. I've put a new SU pump on it, but not 100% convinced it's fixed, will no doubt make a video when have done a test drive. Yes they give much more smiles per gallon than miles per gallon :)

How are you starting that thing? Do you have to pull a switch or something?
Yes on my year car there are only 4 switches on the dash, choke, wipers, lights and the starter. All of them are pull ones. The starter pulls a set of contacts in the engine bay - you can also start her from the engine bay by pushing on them too.

this is my greatest fear i think of taking our Morris ( Matilda ) out and braking down somewhere but in the same context its also the fun part too of owning a classic vehicle if that makes sense , is also why am thinking about what to put in my spares box in the boot and what spanners i need etc , we have breakdown cover too just in case, am enjoying your moggy adventures 👍👍
Thankyou, I was quite lucky I was on a motorway with no hard shoulder 10 minutes before she cut out ! I think the fuel pump was to blame, I will be ordering one that can be serviced :) - the one on her at the moment is a cheap sealed unit

I have a Mini 850 and he's quite old. I call him MAX . Now....on Sunday's I get dressed up and take him out for a run. However, he tends to get a little overheated sometimes. We seem to think he sees me all dressed up in a short skirt and high stiletto heels and he gets over excited! lol He floods easy and so just gentle pumping from me to keep him going and to start him after he stalls. From cold start though he likes long hard pumps as the choke doesn't work as it should. I noticed you look great in your dress but maybe nicer and more sexier shoes would do the trick and it would respond better. Hope you get the fault sorted x Debbie x

@@isobelfox629 yes...we have 3 cars on our drive! The Mini, a small work car that I use Mon-Fri to travel around the country and a really old Toyota MR3 that doesn't run too well. I sometimes take it ou t if I'm feeling mean and want to give it a REAL thrashing ....I'm not sure how much longer that one will last. My husband loves to watch me drive but he says I'm really cruel with that car. Please continue posting. I'm interested in your adventures and love older cars
I have found that sexy shoes, especially very high heels and platforms, make it more difficult to get my old VW started because I can’t feel when I’m pumping too hard and flooding out the motor.
@@Wwillys yes I fully understand. I was out in the car early this morning for a run and I wore my ballet slippers with very soft soles and I could really feel the pedals and vibration form the engine. He still overheated a little and I had to give him a rest (Poor Max!) But I had better control of the gas pedal with some fast but gentle pumps and he responds well. I've never driven a VW what's it like?
Josephine’s beautifully retrimmed red upholstery had me drooling….but it was the view between your beautifully spread(bare) legs that had me overheating, however I did ‘arrive’ at my destination…..you Look beautiful Isobel.
I would not drive a mogg on a long distance jorney with the old points type fuel pump but with a SU electronic pump and a tool box of spares and whitworth tools i dont see any issues
I have an SU fuel pump fitted now. I didn't attempt much by the side of the road this time as it was in a bad place to work on, but I do have a lot of tools with me normally :)

Yes , it was only a 40 minute wait thankfully, and I was only a few miles from home too :)

Your car sounds lovely, I didn't know they had V4 engines. I only knew of Saab cars with that configuration, very interesting :)

It was a fuel pump problem, going to order a new one :)
@@isobelfox629fuel pump error makes sense, the fuel pump could be heard pumping periodically catching up for when it was not pumping… It may also be worth checking out the float bowl needle valve in case it is a bit sticky…
SU fuel pumps are original and serviceable… but I’d be tempted to buy a modern upgrade - or at least run one in tandem for future reliability. Belt & braces. But that’s my personal preference. Best regards- all will be well.
