    So many haters. So what if a Disco dances through this stuff?. If yours cant, then maybe there is driver error? Have a great day no matter what you drive. And yes, I drive a Disco :) . I love goin 4x4 with any any breed in company. Its great to see what they/we can/cant do. Name calling is just childish fella's. Smile and grab a snatch strap or help run out a winch line. Enjoy the tracks. Great video and very capable truck. Cheers for sharing :)

    We've had 10 Land Rovers over the last 30 years and wouldn't drive anything else now. Had our D4 for around three years and it's never missed a beat. I can get 7.5L/100km on a run which I think is pretty good for a car weighing 2.5 tonnes.

      That has a nasty habit of spontaneously combusting. They my be well appointed, but the are notoriously unreliable. I would never consider a Rover of any kind if l was going outback for long periods of time.

    wonder how it compares to the more modern offerings now off roading, if it is still the best tourer. Guess weight would be its disadvantage now others are around the 2 tonner

      +prana8 I know its ageing a little having been released in '05 (with updates) but i think its hard to find a newer vehicle of this size with more technology packed in it.

      More tech is not something I want off-road. But if you like it, then cool beans!

    • @ItchyFeetOz
      @ItchyFeetOz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with that, for example, I hate that they have taken the rear locker out from being standard into being optional, that was not a clever thing to do. Not in my books. Didn't they make the same mistake in the D1 to D2?

    • @Nonamenever557
      @Nonamenever557 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have a D2. In earlier ones like mine, the diff lock was there, all thats missing is the linkage. They later took out the whole thing, but then put it back in after the facelift. Don Leamon I also dont like tech off road, but was responding to newer competitors being more 'modern'

    How has your reliability been on this mate, I'm thinking of the discovery 3 or 4. Would you go for a V8 or the Diesel.
    What range do you get from either and does this make a great over landing vehicle?

    • @PillSharks
      @PillSharks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      iVlogBuzz my fathers had one for 7 years now and it's performed faultless... it's had a few suspension bushes but other than that and service parts it's been 100% reliable......Doesn't venture off road much but does tow a 3.5 ton trailer every now and then with vehicles and building materials on the trailer.
      He had a disco 2 before which he bought from new in 2001 and my wife now drives that and that's also been a brilliant car.
      The biggest problem with Land Rovers is Land Cruisers owners on TH-cam doing their best to rubbish them.
      Look after them and they will look after you!

    • @BelloBudo007
      @BelloBudo007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pill - I love the image Landies being serious off road 4x4's, and have owned two [Freelander and TD5 Defender] and serviced them by the book. Sadly I have to say that lack of reliability made it clear that I needed to end my love affair with the brand. I now drive a Pajero and a Troopy and the level of stress when planning a trip has been greatly reduced.

      Rachel Eugenie no as far as I know they haven’t got any service dates or mileage on them although we changed ours on the disco 2 when it was 10 years old so they will be due to be replaced again next year... I’ll do it again in another 11 years when the landy is 30 years old and all the land cruisers are dead and gone from the same year!
      My fathers Disco 4 is a 2010 and it’s never had any suspension problems and had a small problem the other week when the fuel sender needed replacing... so it’s had a few suspension bushes and breaks fitted and now a fuel sender unit!

    We’ve had our D4 SDV6 HSE for 3 years and put 160,000 kms on it without fault. It’s on the second set of tyres (Scorpion All Weather Zeros) and we average over 900kms per standard 80L tank of diesel despite the mountainous terrain where we live. It’s fun to drive, a really comfortable tourer for the whole family, and we all love it. Easily the best vehicle I’ve owned in over 40 years of driving, and I may not buy another vehicle, it’s that good.

      @@stevegunning1806 That's amazing Steve. I've got a 2015 D4 HSE Lux SD V6. I've never had more than 350 mpg on a brimmed tank.

      @stevegunning1806 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Cameron I’ve only added a pair of steel rock sliders and tow kit, otherwise it’s pretty stock. No roof racks, which I know really add to the drag and ruin fuel economy, much more than folk realise. I’ve also learnt to ease it along, as 2.5 tonnes is a lot of weight to be fanging around hard, so maybe I’m a more patient driver as a result.

    • @mrj3nk044
      @mrj3nk044 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JR15WA 150L = 150kg of fuel + weight of tank. Why not just carry a few jerry cans? Doing so minimises risk to fuel storage and the cans can be stored in the shed when not touring saving money not having to transporting heavy loads around town. 95% plus of trips in Australia don't require a max range of more than 1000km between drinks.

    • @jr15wa
      @jr15wa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mate.... not all of models have to have the expedition features mentioned but if the S and SE diesels did they would transfer a lot more of Toyota sales...and i would then buy one...you dont have to keep them both full around town? does anyone do that? Jerry cans are still carried regardless due to possibility of tank rupture but another tank where the spare wheel is and a rear carrier would be smart..landrovers are supposed to carry their spares externally not underneath..any person who suffers a flat on a hot desert or tropical mud track knows this and why!!!
      Ive been on treks where we used 200litres to do only 300km!

    • @mrj3nk044
      @mrj3nk044 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JR15WA external tyres block rear vision substantially and only provide a benefit for the 30min you may rarely need to change a tyre. Most tyre changes don't even occur in off-road scenarios but rather on bitumen oddly enough. It would be nice if this option were available though for those small market share of drivers who'd appreciate it. After market options do exist if needed. In the end though, as a remote tourer the disco is a poor choice- too many electronics and gizmos that once failed are catastrophic and require thousand dollar LR computers to diagnose and then thousand dollar parts to be sourced from somewhere far away- problematic in a remote outback.

    • @jr15wa
      @jr15wa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mate.....all makers have now got computers controlling all things here in Aussie so no specific land rover issue there... my boss had a NEW 2009 landcuiser 200 that would not activate cruise and not select low range (problem not found or fixed before he on sold it), my cousin working load transfers in Darwn harbour had total engine failure due to over fueling in his work 200 landcruiser....well known oil consumption issues, high fuel consumption, very poor dust sealing, and a rolling ride that makes your passengers sea sick!........ and these are the ones others are now judged by???!
      As a remote tour-er Disc 3/4 would be one of the best..if only for extra fuel tank and external spare wheel!
      NufSaid.

    Never get jeep wranglers. Two of my friends had one and they both had major problems.
    Engine died on one of em while my friend was in middle of no where offroading. Had to get 4x4 recovery company to retrieve it.
    He had to spend like $10000 to fix. I heard he commited suicide a year later.
    Another one had an ignition issue. He couldn't get it fixed so he ended up selling it as parts.
    Just stay away from JEEP.

      That's the thing that jumped out to me as pretty 'odd'. I guess LR know where their core market is and that's clearly not seriously off road too often. Old mate hit the nail on the head with kids transporter and shopping trolley.
      I've no doubt though that it's a bloody capable 4x4. Not too sure what to make of the 19" tyres either.

    Pffff These are hopeless for any serious outback off road in Australia... main reason being it comes with those stupid low profile wheels/ tyres, if only they could design them to run smaller rims? Would sacrifice on road and braking ability but would make a much better 4wd.. Isn't that what LR designed its main purpose to be? To be one of the best 4wds? instead they're only suitable for easy dirt tracks. Why put all those wizard traction aids unless it was intended to be a serious off roader? It's not a serious 4wd with those stupid wheels! Get real 4x4 Australia!
