    Just a note, the white powder Mia pointed out at the start of the video (2:29) isn't even meant to have shades - it's a powder that you put on top of your skincare at night so that it doesn't stick to the pillow, and it has skincare properties so you can wear it throughout the night. Literally the label says "Skincare Powder"

    Just to say a word about Japanese mascaras or Asian mascaras in general (I'm Asian myself). They are usually dry and waterproof because we (quite often) have PIN STRAIGHT AND SUPER TOUGH lashes. Therefore for a mascara to hold the curl for a whole day, it must be light and waterproof most of the time. The wetter ones simply don't work as nicely. That's why they feel so different compared to western ones :)

    I recommend YesStyle for shopping Asian beauty! I love most Asian branded mascaras because my eyes are insanely watery, my eyelashes are blonde. I like a brown mascara but in the states it’s nearly impossible to find a true brown waterproof mascara, they’re all black-brown or black. I love a lot of the sunblocks as well.

    • @misssunnydee
      @misssunnydee 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rudepunk1986 Because I'm very pale and "of a certain age" I prefer brown mascara most days - especially when I'm tired. I had to order mine from Greece, got a burgundy brown and a brown there, but it was annoying to have to order abroad.
      I recently discovered that L'Oréal suddenly has a brown mascara now. Got mine from the drugstore. Bourjois, if you can get that in The States, always had them. Regular and waterproof. Bourjois formulas are a little drier, like Asian brands. So if you like that, maybe check them first.

    A lot of the make ups in japan are from korea. Korea's make up is some of the best in the world. You can look up the brand online of the foundation you couldnt find. My favorite brand is Tony Moly. It also has adorable packaging.

    • @mei42na
      @mei42na 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      False. Only a small percentage of Korean makeups are sold in japan and only recently, mostly in drugstores catering to a niche consumer (teenagers) & don’t make up 10 percent of the Japanese market, including the thai and Chinese makeups also sold in japan.
      Japanese cosmetics and beauty market is actually wide from drugstores to luxury, leaning more on luxury. 😂 FYI, The Japanese love to gatekeep their products from the world. They make their own since time immemorial and don’t like to market their products outside the country. Please do research before sharing things you don’t have an idea of or know.

    I've been into Asian beauty products for well over a decade now and I have some comments/tips!
    Some of the stuff you bought was Korean (the eyeshadow palette and all of the lip products are Korean). I'm also surprised that you were having issues with the mascaras! The purple one is by Heroine Make who are known for their Long & Curl and Volume & Curl mascaras which are basically indestructible. You need a really good makeup remover. I don't know if the purple one is part of that particular range or not. But I've never had issues with Asian mascaras. I think part of the thing is that the things people want in makeup in the west vs in Asia are basically the opposite to a certain extent. I like more East Asian style makeup where it's sheer washes of colour, shimmers, subtle and still natural. I do like western makeup with more of a bold, "I'm wearing makeup" look, but I usually go more for the subtle and natural look in general, with a darker lipstick than you normally get in East Asian makeup. The products you chose are meant to be more sheer and washes of colour, look natural and subtle. The eyeshadows don't usually have a lot of pigment because that's just not how most people do their makeup. It's more on the buildable side than the one swipe full pigmentation side. The false eyelashes are meant to be subtle and just enhance your natural eyelashes, not in the way that western false lashes are really bold and stand out. Between Japan and Korea, I'd say that Japan is definitely more on the side of natural and simple whereas Korea will have some stronger colours and more glitter. Not saying that applies to everyone, just that's what I've noticed over the past decade.
    I think what could be really cool is if you watch some Japanese and Korean makeup videos and see if you can copy them! You don't need to speak the language because it's fairly obvious what they're doing, and a lot of Korean beauty creators actually include English subtitles now (which they never did before! but now I have also been learning Korean for over a decade so it's kind of too late for me lmao). I don't really watch a lot of beauty content on TH-cam anymore so you'd have to look to someone else to find who's popular now. I can only give you suggestions from a while ago and I don't even know if they still make videos haha
    Finally, I don't know how many of these places ship specifically to Canada, but here are some places I've bought Asian makeup and skincare from before that definitely ship to the UK.
    When I first got into Asian cosmetics, I only ordered from *YesStyle* because I didn't know/trust anywhere else, and back then no one shipped to the UK. They are more expensive, but you have a massive range of stuff. You can get Korean and Japanese, and even Chinese and Taiwanese stuff all from them in one order. I really appreciate that still, because a lot of places only specialise in one country. I still find stuff on there that is difficult to find elsewhere, but I rarely order from them because it's sometimes twice the price as other websites.
    *Jolse* will always have a soft spot in my heart even if I don't order from them anymore because they raised their shipping prices and now it costs too much to get it here 😭 they sell predominantly Korean stuff. I don't think they have any other countries' cosmetic stuff. But they are really good and it's shipped directly from Korea.
    I also used to order from *Roseroseshop* a lot! I haven't in a while, though, because like Jolse, they raised their shipping prices and it costs too much to get it here. I can find other websites for cheaper shipping, even if they're missing out on some of the great bits that Roseroseshop has. They always sell things for way, way cheaper than you can find elsewhere. They also have a massive range of stuff from Korea. You can buy lots of different minis and travel sizes that I've never found anywhere else, and you can buy things in massive bulk orders, like 10 of a particular cream or whatever.
    Right now, I order mainly from *Stylevana*. They have very good prices and free shipping over £39, which I usually meet when I order. They are mainly focussed on Korean products, but you can find Japanese and some Taiwanese (like My Beauty Diary sheet masks! Highly recommend, they are great! The black pearl one is my favourite and has been for years. To this day, it is still one of the only sheet masks I've used that I've actually seen a difference from using) stuff there, too. It doesn't have as good a range for those places as YesStyle, but the prices are a lot better, and it does carry things that are difficult to find on other websites; I love Japanese hair dyes and they carry some parts of the lines I like (Kao Liese bubble foam is the best hair dye in the world if you have thick and dark hair, even if it's not East Asian hair! It works so well and leaves my hair feeling so soft, and the colours actually show up! And even though my hair is long and thick and curly, I can usually get away with just one box when in western dyes I have to use two or more!). They ship from Hong Kong, so it can take a while to get here (usually around 2~3 weeks), but it's not as bad as YesStyle used to be (when I first started ordering from them a decade ago, it could take a month+ sometimes).
    I mostly buy Korean stuff, with some Japanese and other stuff thrown in, purely because that is more to my taste and I can actually read it and understand what it says/how to use it. I can't read Japanese, but I can understand some kanji from learning Chinese for a bit, and hanja in Korean. I struggle a lot more with Japanese lmao. Korean stuff also tends to be more accessible as they are more open to shipping overseas and expanding, whereas I have found that Japanese makeup brands are fine with just existing in Japan and parts of Asia. If you look on the AsianBeauty subreddit (r/asianbeauty on reddit) then you will find a list of sellers and recommendations. I relied on them a lot when I started getting into Asian beauty, and I still trust their recommendations. But I have mostly gone my own way now, having used the makeup for so long and being able to speak Korean now. Also, it's all way more accessible than it used to be. There was some stuff where the only recommended way to get it was to buy it on ebay. Now there's Japanese and Korean beauty products being sold in high street shops in the UK! For like twice the price, but still, it's wild!
    One final aside PS thing is that "cruelty free" stuff is only really just becoming a thing in East Asia, mostly as an influence from the west. It's just not something that's a priority for most Asian shoppers. There are more brands or product lines in Korea specifically that are launching whose main ethos is being cruelty free and vegan etc. Unleashia is one of them, that's one of their major selling points is that they are cruelty free and vegan. Lots of other brands have certifications from Korean organisations either for certain products or product lines for being cruelty free/vegan. They are not always certified by the companies that people think of in the west, like Peta or Leaping Bunny - they are domestic companies. Some aren't certified because there's no requirement to be certified to call yourself vegan or cruelty free, I don't think. It's the same in the west, you can say that you're cruelty free and it can be completely true, but you only need to undergo testing and stuff if you want to put things like the Leaping Bunny logo on your products. Also, basically all Asian beauty brands sell in China, so if you consider that to not count as cruelty free, then there's not really anything to offer for you there.
    Also, the shade range has always been bad. In Korean makeup, it used to be two shades. 21 and 23. Now there's a bit more of a shade range, but because it's all still focussed on East Asia who have a much more homogeneous population, they don't really consider much need for shade expansion. If you want more shades, you buy western foundation. It's not as bad as it was before, but it's really still focussed on a very small amount of skin tones, as they're the demographics of the places they're selling to. It sucks, and I do think that if you want to sell base makeup then you should sell an evenly spaced shade range from light to dark, but that's not most of the brands' priority. It should be, but it's not. And as the beauty standards favour lighter skin anyway, the darker products would mostly be sold overseas, which isn't enough of a market for them to justify making it and selling it in their eyes. If you only sell a few hundred of the darkest shade a year and it costs money to make and ship it out, then your company will probably cut it. It is bad, but there are reasons why it's so bad. I don't want to come across like I'm justifying these decisions, I just want to explain why they're made and why they're still being made even when they are trying to expand further abroad. I don't know if they will get to Fenty levels anytime soon, but hopefully they'll get better than they are now. They are really missing out on a massive market by avoiding anything that could work on even slightly darker skin, even within Asia and Oceania.

    As someone who lived in Japan for five months, these are the types makeup products I would recommend getting in Japan:
    - liquid eye glitter
    - blush
    Literally everything else I wouldn’t necessarily recommend (unless you’re into the very subtle Japanese makeup style)
    What I would recommend spending your money on instead is skincare. I’ve been using the perfect whip cleanser and the gokujun premium face cream and both of them are very popular, fairly cheap and amazing quality in Japan. Also they don’t have a strong smell which I personally really like

    Just a couple of info based on mia’s purchase for all the people curious about the products and brands
    •powders in japan generally tend to be white and come off translucent on the skin, they don’t necessarily make you whiter. It makes your skin more even.
    •first product you used was a primer.
    •integrate, the brand of the bb cream is fairly known for having meh packaging but the quality being really good
    •cezanne is also the same as integrate
    •canmake has flashy packaging (altho cheap looking) but their product is pretty good. I ise them daily
    •peri pera (the eyeshadow) is a korean brand. Never tried it so i don’t have much info on it
    •opera (the colour mascara) has great lip products. They were pretty popular a few years back
    •the purple mascara you used was a mascara base
    •heroine make (the purple base) is actually really good if you get the proper mascara. It’s very popular and everyone has used and loved them at one point in their life
    •all the lip products are korean brands (i think)

    It's pretty interesting to see the range of products and brands in a Japanese makeup store, especially compared to the original drugstore makeup video you did many years ago. What I find interesting is the number of brands that are popular that are not Japanese! Judydoll is Chinese, while Rom&nd, Lilybyred, Peripera and Bbia are all Korean! It seems the makeup scene in Japan has changed a lot since five years ago, and yet there are still familiar brands that are still very popular, such as Canmake, Cezanne, Opera, Isehan, etc!
