Bronco Restoration: Day 1 - Tear Down
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 1 ต.ค. 2024
- I paid $2,000 for this Bronco, and my plan is to restore it, keeping track of all parts and labor, in the end to turn a profit.
What I’m going to be working on today is disassembly. That’s it. I’m tearing this frame down. Then I’m going to clean up the frame and axles, paint anything that needs to be painted, and then start building it all back up.
Bronco Restoration is a long process, so I'm going to take my time with this one. If you have any Bronco restoration tips, let me know in the comments!

That stack of wood is probably the most expensive tool in this video…
Hahaha! That is the truth
Looking forward to following your build! I've learned so much from your videos. I knew next to nothing about my bronco 6 months ago, but with your help my '68 is coming to life! Thanks for your content.
Nice!!! Happy to help!
My brother is starting a TH-cam channel restoring a a Bronco. It's called, "It's not junk yet". Please support him
You had me at 1974....
Bypass the Coyote. The juice is not worth squeeze. Coyotes are cool...dont get me wrong, but look where it makes power..
My bronco is my daily driver. 1000-3500rpm......you know what. ...who gives a damn about my opinion. Do what you want.
Hahaha! I want this to be a driver too
I am just finishing up final assembly/restoration on my 1971 Bronco. I heard you say you wanted to send your frame out for powder coat right away. May I suggest, before you do that you should plan out your build on paper and figure out if there are any frame modifications you want to make. For example, James Duff long radius arms, welding, any frame repairs, etc. Most frames that I have seen require some repairs or modifications, so I would definitely consider any mods prior to powder coating. I completely built my Bronco from the ground up, completing all fabrication, then I tore it down for powder coat and paint. If your goal or desire is to profit on your build, I would definitely take your time. My project has taken me 4+ years and I have a shop with a lift. I don’t know where you want to take your project. I started out wanting a clean driver, but progressed into a show quality build! Let me know if you want any photos to refer to.
Thanks for the tip Shawn. Wisdom there for sure. Unfortunately I already powered the frame, and I’m already feeling the consequences of that. Seriously, that’s a good tip for sure
Ls is about as plug and play as you can get, parts a plenty and lots of support for those engines
"sketchy blocks of wood" while I'm over here admiring them admittedly nicer than the ones i have haha.
Hahaha! That’s awesome
Looking forward to watching this build! Are you going to add any double shock mounts before powder coating? I welded up over 100 unnecessary holes on my 72 bronco frame before powder coating. When Ford built the frame rails they made one rail that they used on both sides. So you end up with steering box mount, fuel and brake line holes etc. on the passenger side rail.
Can't wait to see the finished product..Smart decision to avoid the Coyote swap to stay within your budget. What color are you going to choose? I'm biased towards the 67 turquoise or light blue that appears to be the stock color on yours. Cheers!
I would love to see you do something with the stock 302 , that’s exactly what I have in my 69 half cab bronco
Been watching a lot of your videos and really enjoying them. I have been in the market for a Bronco for a long time and just picked up a 68. Going to subscribe to your email for more info. Thanks for sharing!
Where the hell did you find a Bronco for $2000? Junk ones go for close to 10
So true! The $2k ones are getting harder to find
If you're considering getting an early Bronco be prepared to spend a ton of money!!
Hahaha! Exactly
Hi john, just wondering are coming to The Tom’s off-road event? July 22-23
I’ll be there!
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco I will be there to
Next shirt-Sketchy blocks of wood
Hahaha! Those blocks of wood are solid 🤣🤣
How hard is it to lift the body off without a lift?
Pretty hard. This one was already separated when I bought it, so I just pulled the frame out and left the body in a field.
How do I subscribe to you’re email list? This is great!
Looking good Jonathan! Take a look at using the 96-97 explorer drivetrain. I’m currently redoing a 74 with this set up! Buy the whole explorer for 1000-2000 bucks and if it has less 100k miles run it. Good luck! Cary, So Cal.
Nice!
Jon, awesome videos. I have a '75 that I bought in '95 (my first car). Sure glad I never sold it! I'm about to get into a frame up restoration. Is there a video #3 (4?,5?,6?) on this thread yet? I didn't see anything but could be missing something. Would love to see your progress. Cheers.
No video #3 yet, I’m working on it
Just picked up a 73 Bronco for the wife and getting good tips from your vids. I have a restomod 66 mustang with a 347 stroker so motor wise I got it but new to the Bronco. Mahalo and aloha!
Nice!!
Always enjoy your videos! Just reviewing this project, eagerly awaiting Day 2, 3 months later! You're still making progress faster than me ;)
Haha! Yes, hopefully “Day 2” will happen shortly. The easy part was tearing it down, now I need the time and money 😂
Coyote would be gnarly!! But not practical!! As you said a resale! Not everyone knows how to work on those newer engines. Pushrod fir the win!!! Good stuff bro!
Exactly! Thanks
Stock 302! FTW
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Midway through a bronco restoration now, put it back together while you still can! Kidding of course, have fun and that looks like a great starting point
Haha! Thank you. Luckily I have one I can drive around in the mean time
I love the new direction on your channel with mixing it up. Looking forward to seeing the progression on the 74! Hope to continue to see work done on the green machine:p
Thanks man!
Totally cool vid. Thanks
Rusty GOLD...hard to find the old Broncos
GOLD!!!
Well .. now you are almost caught up with me.
Hahaha!
Going to be great series very information . So cool that you're totaling out everything with a breakdown
Thank you! I’m excited to see how much it all takes
Wow! Looks like it's gonna be a great project!
Thanks man!
Nice to see you back
$2000 I wish ! I can't find a rust bucket for under $10,000. Good luck withe build. Can't wait to see what you do with it !
It was literally in pieces in a field, but I paid $2,000 for it
I scored a complete 72 bronco 2 years ago for $1400! Not running, rusty floor boards but pretty solid. Now I'm half way thru a complete ground up restoration and in deep already at 40K! Doing all my own work but also buying high end parts. I figure 2 more years to complete. I look forward to watching this build too.
Consider a Fox Body 5.0.
I’ll look into it
I’ve used them in both my builds. You can use the stock EFI or for a more authentic look go with the Edelbrock you’ve used before.
Put some aluminum heads on for more HP and torque. Look forward to seeing the progress.
How often do you think you will upload a video on this build?
Hopefully every couple weeks, but it will be as I have time for it
Very cool series! I like how you put up a breakdown at the end 👍🏻
Yeah, I thought people would enjoy that each episode.
It's so cool to see a frame off restoration in the same garage as the Green Bronco in original paint
Yeah!
Always wanted to do this. Best of luck.
Thank you!
Good start. Will be fun to watch.
Thanks!
Looks like fun! I am glad to be on the downhill side of ours now. Good Luck!
I’ve been taking notes on your build 😉
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco Ha... you got it figured out for sure. I wish I was closer so I could help out.
That would be amazing
Have you checked out the Coyote kit from BC Broncos? If not, give it a look!
I haven’t checked it out. I’ll look
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco I'm working on a 76 using their kit. The only 'mod' is to trim the passenger side wheel well 1 inch. Their ad says a kid could do it! Give it a look!
I’ll look at it
Oh man. Good luck!
I’ll make notes from your videos and do the opposite
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco yeah, too late. That can of worms takes you where IT wants. Haha.
Haha! That’s true
Good luck with the build.
Thank you!
Looks like 🤩 fun. OSHA will have a field day in your garage 😂 ✌🏼
Hahaha! What they don’t know won’t hurt them 😂😂
