Dude...I am knee deep in a 76' full restoration, and this is so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to document and show what to do and more importantly what to avoid.
MAN!!! This series is what will ultimately drive me to take my '70 apart and just dive in with the restoration! Thanks for chronicling all of your progress!
Always go with spring packs vice blocks. I've had blocks break & it can be a bad day. Loving this project. I wish I had the skill & resources when I had my 76 Bronco to see it through 😕
Looking sweet John! I’m restoring a 66 for my wife. I’m sure yours will be done way before mine. Just assembled the 9” this weekend including rear disc. Just watched your video earlier today on the 23 gallon rear tank installation. That’s tomorrow’s project. I love having Tom’s in my backyard.
Just started watching your videos this year, really enjoy them. Im wanting to get a 1st gen bronco and your videos have been great with showing me whats waiting for me if i dont get a bronco thats already restored. Keep up the great content
Keep it up bro, am. Little further than you are, I have the wheels, brake lines and fuel lines, did a ZF transmission with mod kit to the original transfer case. I am not a mechanic so looking forward to more pearls of wisdom. Love your videos.
Also, I think the idea of a complete library on repairs/ restoration is a fantastic idea. Of course, I really like torque specs in those types of videos - even if they require several disclaimers about accuracy. I appreciate you taking the extra time to do your repairs and improvements and share it with us!
Hey Jon, Thanks for another informative video on Bronco stuff, parts, builds, events and anything Bronco. Keep them coming! I have gained much information from Nashville Early Bronco and Matt's Garage(especially early seasons). Glad to see Matt bought another Bronco. I look forward to one day meeting you in person when I have my '77 Bronco Sport Ranger on the road and going to events.
Looks good man. I have almost all these same parts sitting on my living room floor right now. LOL. Wish I could tear down my '75 that far and build up but don't have the space. Little bit at a time will get me there though. Keep up on the great videos!
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco I sold all of them and move to Texas from Ohio. I do not have any Bronco anymore. I wish I. had one but in the last they have doubled or triple in price
John, I am enjoying watching. I have been working on my 68 for 1-1/2 years and am installing the tranny and transfer case before I set the body on. At this moment, I am dealing with the mounting supports not lining up properly with the two bolt holes on the t case adapter from the NP 435 and the Dana 20. They are 3/4” off on the drivers side and 1.5 inches off on the passenger side. I could make an adapter plate to mount it but I want to get it dead on center if possible. If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate the input Good to review what I have done. Very similar in components. 95% bought from Tom’s Offroad
Really enjoying the videos. on the look now for me a bronco. Won't be able to afford to go in this depth on one but I can use the videos for a lot of different things. Hey you're only a couple hours from me if you happen to be able to put me in touch with one.
John, Thank you for sharing all of this content with the Bronco community! I noticed you installed a long travel - with hoops - Tom’s lift on Nash and went without hoops on this build. I’m in the process of rebuilding a 66 and was curious if you had a recommendation between the two. Truck will mostly see road use.
Thanks Scott! Hoops are really needed for a dual shock set up, or to get a larger shock in the stock location. This truck will mainly be road use, so the stock mounting point with a single shock is enough
Hey Jon, nice to meet you at the Bronco Super Celebration in TN this past weekend! I love my NASH shirt!!! What rust encapsulator did you use for the chassis? Matte finish or gloss? What do you recommend?
Actually, initially saw the mustache. Blushing, I hit the cancel button on the video thinking I had clicked on something prohibited. Looked around and noticed nobody was watching. Reclicked on the content and realized it was Bronco restoration? Nice vid Jon!
I'm currently restoring a 1972 Bronco in California. It just came out of paint. The biggest lesson I've learned so far? Budget for 30% more. Because that's what it's going to cost. It's expensive. I'm 35k in new parts. 15 for paint and body. Cost of the Bronco. Engine rebuild. Trans rebuild. Of course, I could have gone without vintage air, Pro flow, a new paint job, digital gage, costly wheels, and tires... etc., but I think it's important to know going into it that it's a major investment no matter what the approach. Because once you start putting new parts on it, keeping old vent windows, original scuffed glass, old door-locking mechanisms... feels silly.
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco I'm six months in from buying the Bronco. Next week, the painted Bronco will return. The engine is ready to go in. I bought almost all the parts about six months ago. I'm thinking of buying the console from Icon Broncos. It looks pretty awesome. I grew up in Nashville btw. Santa Monica now. Lot's of great-looking Bronco's out here.
John, nice work. I saw in your purchases that you got stock front bumper stops. With a 2 1/2" lift do you have to raise these up or use larger stops to function properly? Thanks.
You know, I haven’t installed them yet, so I’m not sure. Honestly I don’t think I’ll need them. The coil springs really inhibit the flex and I don’t think the axle will hit anything
I am restoring a 71 and i plan to do it frame up. I'm slowly buying parts but in an effort to not jump ahead i was wondering if you had a sequence list of sorts or recommendations? i noticed you started with the axle rebuild, then suspension, disc brakes, brake lines, fuel tank and fuel lines... but what after that? Thinking engine, transmission and TC rebuild and install? thanks!
Trying to decide what size lift to go with. I’m thinking about 35” tires with no body lift and 3 1/2” suspension lift. But I’ve heard you can’t run 35s with no body lift ? Your thoughts ? Great video too 😊
I thought I had a issue with my crankshaft pulley. When the truck was running, I noticed a wobble of it. After some work, I noticed several things. One the damper was the original in 79 and required to be replaced. Another thing I noticed was the timing chain had too much slop. It’s original 79 install. So I’m in a tear down mode of my F150 302. It’s part of my frame up winter project.
Hmm… have I been saying it wrong all this time. I don’t think I ever counted the leafs. But you are right! I guess I’ve been saying it wrong! Haha! 9 leafs everybody.
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco 😁 Only reason I looked and counted is, I have the Toms 3.5-inch 9 leaf's . Don't be surprised that it might measure more than 2.5 -inch lift. My 3.5 measured at all most 5 inches and I'm still waiting for it to settle 🤯
While grade 8 hardware might be stronger, the finish is going to deteriorate quickly, not to mention the appearance looks like you cheaped out. I can spot a hardware store bolt from a mile off.
Most of the stuff I reused has been replaced. I didn’t tighten anything down at this point because I knew I would come back to it. It’s hard to order every piece of hardware the first time, so a lot of times I would order as I was making the videos, haha!

Great videos! I'm in the process on a '73. Was wondering if you had any tips on torque down the coil cups on the radius arms?
I just posted a video on torque specs… I think they were 45-55 ft. Lbs.

35’s are pretty tight. I’m not sure what the difference between suspension and body when it comes to tire size
How much time stretching out so you can sit on the floor?
Hahahaha! Man, the day after is brutual
Are those 28 or 31 spline axle shafts?
31 spline
What size tires are you planning on using?
33’s
What is the pulley size for both the water pump and crankshaft damper pulley?
Same as stock. It’s 6” outer diameter, but I’m not sure the belt groove size
