    I find it amazing how much damage this round causes to the plate and the fact that has more kinetic energy than most 125mm APFSDS rounds. What target should I test it against next?

    • @risingSisyphus
      @risingSisyphus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      I'm always interested in impacts of kinetic projectiles against light armor at extreme angles. It used to be taught to angle your armor against incoming fire; nowadays, thin side armor isn't reliable against modern rounds and it's taught to face threats directly in order to not expose it. Could we see this round against a contemporary's side armor at glancing blow angles?

    This is really quite interesting and answers a question I had coincidentally planned to ask on your newest video no matter the content SY - the difference between APDS and APFSDS in terms of angled armour behaviour and why APDS deflects more like traditional solid shot with ricochets and the like, while APFSDS doesn't care much at all until its critical angle. I didn't know about the eroding vs fracturing and shattering difference, but this video makes it quite clear where that difference lies and how APDS started to evolve toward the type of armour interaction APFSDS has. Thank you for teaching me something new!

      What would the point of that be? The amount of explosives in ERA is small, to the point where it causes no effects on the vehicle itself. Its also off-set from the vehicle, so any impact detonation of HE would be equivalent to it detonating on a barrier akin to spaced armor. It would be hard to render with nothing to really show for it. ERA of any kind is hard to do unless you have a really powerful rig and lots of time. I hope one day we get to see HEAT or APFSDS on something like Kontakt-5, at least something is actually happening there.. Wasting that effort of HE is just silly. All you gonna see is the ERA plates getting vaporized.
