  • Hi everyone, if this video helps you out at all or you just enjoy watching then please feel free to tip enough to get a hot drink or even a Pepsi max :). The channel does cost a fair few pound to run so all tips would go towards continuing the vids and making them better.

I'm glad I'm not the only one going through the er5 fuelling struggle. I've rebuilt the tap and put all back together. Will be starting it up over next few days. I was equally anxious about starting it following a full oil change. I'll keep you posted. My leak was on that left hand side carb. I changed both float needles and rebuilt both carbs. Spoke to a mechanic friend who thinks it might be the actual fuel that is making these leaks. Keep the faith bud

I checked one more time before I ended yesterday and it once again had floaded the oil. Its such a pain.
I've now ordered a new set of oem quality float valves and of course have a tap rebuild kit coming. I today bench tested my carbs and 1 was definitely leaking but only needed adjusting.
So technically I got it sorted today, but for piece of mind I want it all done again.

@@gaza_ thanks Gary. I think this will be my next port of call. Did you have a similar leaking issue on the left hand carb? This looks like a logical fix

Put fuel back in today and ran the bike around the block. No leaks so far and all ok following the tap rebuild. Think I’m going to try Gary’s fuel idea as well just to be on the safe side

@@manbeastbutler4234 Gary's tap relys on the float valves doing a good job, I wouldn't lose the suction system in replacement for it but you could put it in somewhere to turn off over night.

I bought a rough running er5 for £400. The seller was chuffed when i didnt haggle then less chuffed when met him in Morrisons and told him that the only reason his bike wouldn't run right was the breather pipe pinched against the frame. I should've been kind and told him I'd spent hours messing with the carbs.
    😂😂😂

Lol, that's an interesting one isn't it. Many years back I bought a Peugeot of my mate as a non runner. I towed it home and tried to fix it. I realized that if I started it with my foot to the floor that it would start but not rev very high. I sold it on ebay with that description.
The buyer messaged me the day after saying cheers mate, you put diesel in it, I topped it up with unleaded and it's running beautifully lol.
And I was a bit annoyed lol

Thanks for the kind words fella, I've got to take my hat off to you for your dedication, enthusiasm and passion for bikes. Saving a bike just so it lives to ride another day regardless of any profit to be made is so refreshing to hear mate and wish more people would live life with that attitude.
Your getting there despite the Kawasaki throwing curve balls at you and it'll be on the road soon enough with someone very happy to have it. Keep at it and I'll be over as soon as the Blade is ready 😀

Very interesting issue with this er5... i would be chucking spanners left right and centre, admiring your calmness with this but you have had the carb off a ridiculous amount of times, I don't know how you do it but keep it up, looking forward to the next one. Great video Charlie l!

I definitely get frustrated however these carbs take 5 mins to get of which is great.
I think I have it sorted now in my head lol, I've ordered new oem quality float valves which will help stop the flow of fuel and I've just received the fuel tap repair kit.
Fingers crossed its resolved on the weekend.
      Thanks for watching Ashley.

These videos are very helpful. I've just bought a 2006 ER-5 that needs cleaning up -- only 6,000 miles from new. Could you recommend a good quality oil? I was thinking Castrol Power 1 maybe? Appreciate any advice.

little electric fuel valve from a car lpg system...turn your key, valve open, shut down engine, valve closed, and no more fuel in engine oli never. or just insteda of electric valve, put simple on of manual valve. or both for security. of course, before that remove old stoopid original vacuum system

You would have to see what your bike prefers so check online but yes the weight of it is great for most bikes in the UK. One moment I'll get you a link.
