When I was younger I had some traumatic experiences that made me abnormally scared of death, over time, I found a way to more or less cope with it: The ever-present deep realization that death for everyone is imminent makes you appreciate life to a new level, forgiving becomes easy, doing what you love becomes a constant, and finding joy over the smallest details becomes the best source of peace. This video hits the spot in the right way, I'm in tears, thank you so much Sam.

@Mike Kane Your emotional state is subjective. Just because death makes you feel a certain way doesn't mean everyone objectively feels the same way about it. Some people work as morticians and are completely fascinated by death. I doubt death evokes the same emotions in a mortician as it does for you. Also, if you'll notice, the bulk of my comment is a question, why is being morbid wrong? Asking a question is not an invalidation of the state of morbidity. Death literally happens to everyone. There can be no more universal and common place activity than dying. If sadness and pessimism is how you cope with it, so be it. There is nothing wrong with looking at death with a sober and emotionless perspective.

There is no point regretting how you spent your time, because *there is no free will.* I'd rather not waste so much mental energy worrying about how much time or opportunities I have left. Once you are dead, you won't experience regret or FOMO. So, it doesn't matter how many opportunities you miss. Stop worrying.

All is one thing. One thing experiencing itself. One thing with many heads. The heads come and go, but the thing that each of those heads is continues. Continues to experience itself. Continues to create new heads. The key is to realise that we are that one thing. Not this seemingly separate head. We are the one thing viewing ourself from the viewpoint of this head. Whether the primary substance of the one thing that we are is made of consciousness that can appear as matter in order to experience itself or whether it is made of matter that possesses the potential to create consciousness from within itself in order to experience itself, it makes no difference. It’s still all one thing. We are all one thing, always have been and always will be. There is nothing else that anything can be except the one thing that is.
Nicely done. Thoughts on our mortality in a nutshell spun positively. I will admit... the closer I get to my own demise, the more precious time has become. And the keys to staying happy on my own journey lie with me and no one else. (The thinker on the toilet at 1:28 made me smile... 😊)
This is the approach to the death of a wealthy person. For his 109 billion brothers and sisters who lived in the past, that sight was not so romantic in their short, cruel and troublesome lives. Even today many people lead a poor life, for whom death is a redemption.

I make websites for friends and their businesses, on average probably 1-2 per year, which adds up over the past decades. Frankly, picking fonts (header+paragraph, + potentially logo, so always 2 fonts, sometimes 3) is always the hardest part. Second comes color scheme. Third hardest is getting the content. Most of the time I end up writing all their prose myself, but the hardest part about content if you want to stay cheap is to find photographs to use. Fourth hardest is page layout, and the easiest part of all is actually coding the site. Writing HTML, PHP, and JS is so easy, I don't even bother learning new frameworks. I still use Bootstrap. I'm probably never going to try anything else, there's no point. The majority of the time is spent on the other problems, which the main one is ... fonts. What the hell is that about? LOL!
And just like Sam, I enjoy the time I spend picking fonts. Why not? First, I browse, and find 10-30 fonts that seem suitable depending on the type of content. Then, I put them up next to eachother with the same phrases in an image. I print them out on large pieces of paper and cross away the ones I see immediately are not going to make the cut. I ask people around me which ones they would NOT use. And through the process of elimination, I always get down to 2-3. It's not about picking the one you like for me. For me, it's always easier to weed out the ones I _dont_ like.
I once noticed a very old lady crossing a busy street while the pedestrian lights were red. I wondered why an old person could be in such a hurry that they are willing to put their life in danger. Maybe she was aware of the fact of not having much time left, therefore she did refuse to waste any more time waiting at a red light.

Beautifully animated. And spoken. And about getting angry about 'nothing'; tell it to Ricky when he gets misophonic again over someone else eating loudly.
Sam, which font did you end up with?
Ps. It felt great to contemplate mortality without freaking out for once 🤍
❤
Thanks for this amazing piece, Sam and Team. Wonderful job, great reminder and motivation to relax and put things into perspective. Well done and thanks again!
This is actually heartfelt and beautiful. Thank you Sam. When you put just a little more energy to your heart and just a little less to your head, I want to listen to you more.
I don't really fear death, I fear suffering
modern palliative care really has their shit together and probably got you covered
It is temporary
Your fear is the suffering though. You are suffering every moment you fear it. You're only doing it to yourself.

Love the animation here. Awesome as always Sam.
living in the moment is hard.
But in my opinion, life is living in the moment.
That is why we call it present. It's a gift!
Thank you for everything you do Sam
I needed this at this very moment. Thank you so much Sam.
I really needed to hear this today! Thank you :)
Breaktaking Sam. I'm awestruck by the commentary in this video. Enjoy your life while you can while it lasts. Bravo Sam seriously kudos. 🤜🤛😎
It's not a cliché to say we only get one life. It's a fact. Do all you can to make it 'something'. Cheers Sam.
Something to consider: th-cam.com/users/shortsmaXxNihkQJQ?feature=share
Carl Sagan style on a personal level.
I like it.
Days are numbered.
Sh1t will hit the fan.
Pretty sobering.
Very stoic as well. But can a stoic somber realist manage a violent army like a false religion can?
So what font did you chose?
This simple thought brought tears of awakening to my eyes.
This is great Sam. Beautiful motion graphics at work here. I’ve heard this snippet of yours already but the animation makes it worth listening to all over again
Everything is impermanent, but for now, I am grateful for this video.
Love the graphics on these videos and the messages, of course, even more
Amazing, needed this in so many ways. Profound and simple but so meaningful
There is no point regretting how you spent your time, because *there is no free will.*
I'd rather not waste so much mental energy worrying about how much time or opportunities I have left.
Once you are dead, you won't experience regret or FOMO. So, it doesn't matter how many opportunities you miss.
Stop worrying.
I dont wanna die knowing I havent even come close to reaching my full potential
So true! Most people live in fear that they don't get the most out of their life. I don't want to live in fear. I want to live in peace and a deep sense of humility :)

Thank you for this, I've wondered how you deal with death and this is a good answer to consider
I'm curious about that new font, Sam
Incredibly beautiful and helpful. Thank you for improving my view on existence.
Wow! Where have the videos like this been? We need more animations and hopefully in the future live video for podcasting to give the attention this channel deserves!
This is so beautiful and helpful because it's reasonable, wise and true.😊
Sam is so rational that it also lead to unearthing the most romantic perspective imaginable.
Wow... beautiful. Thank you for your ongoing efforts Sam. We appreciate you. xoxo
I never have the words...
Profound and just what I needed to hear. I'm in control of my finite life and those around me...
Five minutes of listening well spent. Thank you Sam.
everything about this. thank you
This was beautiful and poetic way of reflecting on death. In order to enjoy life you must see death as part of it.
A sobering thought that needs to be appreciated and understood, thank you Sam for everything you do.
This video could have easily been titled "Perspectives on Life" instead. Thanks Sam!
This is the approach to the death of a wealthy person. For his 109 billion brothers and sisters who lived in the past, that sight was not so romantic in their short, cruel and troublesome lives. Even today many people lead a poor life, for whom death is a redemption.
Absolutely phenomenal animations, please continue doing this. This is just freaking amazing... Don't stop...
He’s trying to beautify the religion of atheism with stupid ass animations and an amateur score playing in the background. nihilism is a bitch and he knows it , he can’t even enjoy it lol
@@MrChickenstalker Judging by your writing, your intellectual maturity level is clearly equivalent to that of a 12-year-old. Go and come back when you have anything worth saying.

My dad passed away a month ago, The only regret I have in my life now is that I did not say I love you dad enough when I had the chance to say so. Thank you Sam for this.
Sam, have you spent any time following the longevity/anti-aging space? It would be interesting to hear you hash out the implications of therapies that could extend our lifespan from the personal, individual value creation perspective with someone involved. George Church or Laura Deming would be suitable choices for Making Sense, I think.
Beautiful Sam, reading Becker freaked me out but this was inspiring! Loved the animation style
Nobody gets out of here alive ! Enjoy every second of life !!
this should be taught in school 1st thing all the way through.... Well put Sam
Fantastic and profound video!
I have died once in waking state and many times in oniric states. There's no turning back once you have these experiences (:
The secret of life is to “die before you die” - and find that there is no death - Eckhart Tolle
I once noticed a very old lady crossing a busy street while the pedestrian lights were red. I wondered why an old person could be in such a hurry that they are willing to put their life in danger. Maybe she was aware of the fact of not having much time left, therefore she did refuse to waste any more time waiting at a red light.
