Walked up that road one Saturday to the Rotorua Tramping and Ski Club hut, only to end up hut bound in a blizzard that lasted three days and I got a couple of extra days off school after just having had 6 weeks off school with a communicable disease.
It was a pity that you couldn't see the view of Red Crater and beyond. Thank you for helping that person off the mountain. The track over the top is not a place for someone with vertigo! I hope they weren't part of a group that had gone ahead and left them. That final 10kms seems very long and rough if you've come all the way over the Crossing but you're walking with strength and gratitude. Happy trails.
Thank you. Yes it was a shame we couldn't see more. The person we helped, her friend's carried on to get their car, to go back to the car park to pick her up. They were not helping the situation when we arrived. So we calmed her down. I said Tim was a mountaineer, Vivienne said we can take you to the carpark, and her whole frightened demeanor changed to one of hope.
I did this section in the winter, with a ice axe & crampons! So much fun!
