MoM is so nothing, it’s the least interesting “mystery” of the entire series. And yozora wouldn’t be interesting in the least bit without the meta nonsense surrounding it.
Thank you. I'm glad people are finally starting to see the light. Square-Enix has turned this series into a dumpster fire in terms of story. Their mindset is "Just slap on some Disney worlds, press Triangle to see awesone moves, put a secret ending and watch the money rain" after Kingdom Hearts 3 I've given up. Sora is not Mario, Link or Sonic the Hedgehog, you can't expect him to carry this series forever. Let a new hero arise, new story, new characters.
Let me tell you about the writing process of the Kingdom Hearts series. Nomura barges into the writers' room overly excited and goes "Wouldn't it be cool if (insert nonsense plot twist)?" Writers look at each other, incredulous. "Ok Nomura-san...and how do we tie that to the plot?" Nomura shrugs: "We'll make a flimsy side game and make shit up as we go along to explain it. Get writing!" Nomura barges out of the room. This happens on average 3 times a day.
I feel like you speak perfectly to adults who grew attached to kingdom hearts at a young age but realized all the nuance with age 😂😂 I love watching these vids.
1:18:12 I'm SORRY riku, did you say "by my self" Sure maybe the raft part of the raft plan was all you, but the Food, water, sail, rope,ECT was a joint effort of kairi and SORA. If it were up to your efforts alone the trio would be dead from starvation at sea!
Man, it's actually kind of funny, he's just referring to the part of building the raft and then he pretends to complain about the effort he had to do because the other kids (including Sora and Kairi) see him as the "the strong kid", when on the 2nd day Sora had to start his own task of looking for food the raft was already finished 😆
Also, I think Maleficent was able to get away with the reference to "the powers of Hell" because that's a direct quote from Disney's Sleeping Beauty (thanks for the corrections, comments). She says it near the end when confronting Prince Philip. Back in the 50s they were more OK with that, I suppose.
Not Snow White, Sleeping Beauty. Also "Hell" in this context refers to the place, and therefore is not a curse word, thus the G rating. Hunchback of Notre Dame also has a G rating, and they have a whole freaking song called Hellfire, the word damnation is also said and that came out in 1996. But if you think that's shocking, watch Pinocchio, also rated G, where the word "jackass" is said about 5 or 6 times. What's funnier is this becomes a double pun and is clearly being used as a swear word. Now that is getting past the censors!
@@Zinervawyrm Probably less "Getting past the censors" and more "Disney throwing its weight around". A pretty large amount of animated films from the bigger names in animation could squeeze a lot in and keep the G rating from as far back as the 50s all the way through the early 80s. Heck Don Bluth's/MGM's"Secret of Nimh" film had at least one Swear, some genuinely scary action, and gruesome character death's including: One character being crushed to death (Offscreen but you do see a hand sticking out), the villain dieing to a thrown knife in the back (with blood shown), and one character having his throat slashed open and clinging to life long enough to throw the aforementioned lethal knife. This is one of my favorite films from my childhood. ^^;
God I am so glad I graduated from Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy, that x Back Cover segment caused me serious psychic damage. Sure Final Fantasy has convoluted plots but you can usually jump into literally any of the games and you'll be told the whole story and given a real ending. I don't have to play an online-only mobile game to understand and enjoy FF13-2, no stupid "spinoff" bullshit dragging out the plot for 20 YEARS
Three Fun Facts: The time machine Ven, Marluxia and Larxene used appears near the end of the first game, Dream Eaters are the reincarnated dead from Daybreak Town’s destruction and Xehanort is the reincarnation of your player avatar.
I wish xehanort could have been a reluctant villian thinking he was doing good and even actually helping Terra. A bit by explaining blancing light and dark and that he would train him. Would have caught us off guard and we could have had some sympathy for him.
With that japanese part of Terra speaking, I realised that even in Japanese they say ‘kokoro/heart’ and ‘yami/darkness’ so many times it loses all meaning, haha
union cross scream is a pure representation of how i feel about kh story after 3. it does not need to be even more confusing to both long time fans and especially newcomers to the series.
funnily enough my first game was union cross and then I played in order with the rest, it wasn't confusing surprisingly when you play in that order considering by the time I got to 2.8, the later lore filled stories got released, then KH3 came and then finally the end of union cross, wasn't too bad lmao
This is proof not every story needs Naruto-level worldbuilding, which is saying alot with how dumb it got with the Otsutsuki and Sage of 6 Paths stuff.

33:45 - I thought the keyblade choosing Sora at Destiny Islands was partially retconned by him wielding it as a proxy of Ventus, since Sora was harbouring his heart; getting the keyblade back from Riku in Hollow Bastion is when he became worthy of it entirely on his own merits.
@@sora_keychain5510 actually saying the kingdom key is riku’s is still sort of wrong, it’s not inherently sora’s either though since it’s still the keyblade of the world of light(the importance of which has kind of diminished over time but whatever)

Okay I know I'm super late in getting to this amazing video and the others that go along with it But did you seriously time 1:15:32 to match with Young Xehanorts time stop muffled music to the cutscenes when mickey used STOPZA THAT IS SO FUCKING BRILLIANT AND I LOST MY MIND WHEN I HEARD THIS!
Seeing the "Unchained [chi]"/UX rant, I can only assume this script and publishing was before the big ending infodump a month prior to closure, but I'm not about to go back down that rabbit hole at this time of night to check. But, do want to remark on this glimpse into the partial-information periods of "understanding" KH lore, and wonder how much clarity and/or misconception I'll've had once more lore comes out (which, we now know, will be late 2022 with Dark Road's further delays, oh BUDDY).
Imagine you finished vanilla KH or if you were lucky, KH2FM (japanese only release) and wondering who the "Enigmatic Warrior" is and why he's so badass and then someone from the future forces you to watch this explanation
Kingdom Hearts is the reason why Nomura should never be put in charge of writing a story. There's a reason why KH1 has the best story in the series: Nomura wasn't responsible for writing it.
Yeah there was a Time when Just KH 1, KH Chain of Memories and KH 2 existed and it was Totally fine as Trilogy without The Overcomplicated Shit that was made after KH 2.
33:00 The Keyblade of the Realm of Light is different from the individual keyblades created by the hearts of people like Riku. It is sentient and chose Sora. Mickey's Keyblade is the same, but for the Realm of Darkness. They even pop up in the same location in the Islands, but in different realms.
This made me fucking laugh. I loved it. It just makes me realize even more how some parts didn´t make any sense at all, but whatever, plot has to continue and it´s kingdom hearts.
After watching your entire KH3 video, i’ve watched the one prior to this and now almost done with this video. I cannot stop watching your content, even if it was 20 hours, you are amazing at commentary and humor over long periods of time and its super impressive. Keep it up.
You loosing it from the Fragmentary Passage title made me loose my shit. an old joke but goddamn did the editing make it hilarious. Though that could also be because it's 1 am and I am tired.
Wait... wait... the plot in Union cross is the same as the... summons from FF13? "Maybe if we cause enough trouble, the Creator will come back and actually talk to us"...?
One thing you probably didn't know the Developers of DDD messed up the world order and made the grid before Prankster's Paradise despite the fact that Prankster's Paradise chronologically comes before the Grid
that's something that's pretty common with Osaka, apparently in BBS the early world order for Terra is also fucky because Dwarf Woodlands is supposed to be second and Castle of Dreams is third and in KH3 it's possible that the Carribean is supposed to be after BH6 rather than vice versa
@@Cross-chan Wow but I mean how do they do that 3 times when they get to work on 2 side games which they seemed to improve dramatically with DDD and then kinda get complacent when they were trusted to make KH3 the most important numbered title
Don't forget that it doesn't make any sense for The Grid to be a sleeping world when it's based on a sequel to Tron even though there already was a Tron world in KH2 and Legacy didn't exist yet when they made that world. I know Space Paranoids is a copy of The Grid, but it's still dumb.
1:15:25 can we just appreciate that he CAREFULLY synchronized Young Xehanort theme from KH3 into this scene so that the ending of the drop matched up perfectly with Mickey casting Stopza and it expanding on to the organization's seats? I LOVED THAT, please, do more of these.
Lingering will was pretty easy Cause you have allies and can cheese it Duck flare Elixir Until you run out of elixir Then use stick for magic Regen (Summon get magic dismiss duck flare) And that's how I beat lingering will critical mode
Birth by sleep is almost completely unplayable for me now. I agree, I definitely loved the fuck out of the game when I was younger. But good lord is it boring as anything and I can’t meld for and level 3 characters in one game ever again.
i know that KHUx is a lot to go through, but some of the details you mentioned were very off. ex: Ava's union is called "Vulpes"; her secret mission was to train the Dandelions, the people she specifically chose not to participate in the keyblade war so that the keyblade legacy will continue. She sacrificed everyone else in Vulpes to the war
I love this video, but I don’t really see Terra as dumb, more so gullible. Terra was constantly that making bad decisions was good, so it makes sense that he continues to make em throughout the game. I dunno, maybe I’m dumb too
I can't believe they expected fans to jump through so many hoops to understand such a vague story that constantly "subverts youre expectations" in the most monsense ways to justify sequels. They even went as far as continuing the story in a goddamn mobile game, TWICE. Nah, im good. I just hope KH4, combat wise, is more KH2 and waaaay less KH3.
Honestly, I was getting mad when you weren't understanding most of the Union X story when it was literally told pretty clearly... then I looked at when this video was uploaded and realised that the final update where everything gets explained wasn't even out yet so now I just feel stupid. All in all, great video, can't wait for this to eventually blow up! XD
@@juangalvez2404 Actually, if anything, Union X makes everything make more sense I'd argue. There are people who have done a full playthrough of the game and recorded all the cutscenes for people to watch. It's especially important to phase 2 of Kingdom Hearts because it introduces the main villains for the next part of the series (the Willful Darknesses if that wasn't obvious enough) and also, Sora will probably end up fighting the Master of Masters at one point because he either mistakes him for the villain or because he knows that what he's doing does eventually lead to a positive outcome but he just doesn't agree with the steps that MoM is taking to get there... that's what I think at least.

22:00 the original line was "Why do you always have to stare at me like I just drowned your gold fish?" in the DS version of 358/2.
Truly the biggest loss of all when moving from the game to the movie.
That sounds like something out of the English Dub for Digimon. Also, it is still weird hearing Xion's voice come out of Ventus' body even if it's just Xigbar's perception of her.
@@KaiKrimson56 Yeah that line is garbage
Fun fact: At 13:00, in the original Japanese dub, Ventus was told to bring his "parents" instead of "two grownups."
USA must have not liked Terraqua.
Well... Terra and Aqua aren’t that much older physically. 21 and 18 respectively. Also if we’re getting technical Ven is older than Xehanort.
@@calebgoodman2076 if we get super technical they're the same age since xehanort's heart was just reshaped into a new one

Julius being the guardian of Sora's heart is my new head canon
I'm not the least bit interested in the master of masters, kingdom hearts 3 showed me that the series is destined to underwhelming plot points.
I'm assuming you feel the same way as me with how they cheapen big moments of sacrifice, yeah?
The only thing I’m interested in is how they’re going to do vs 13 and why it’s inevitably going to turn out as bad ff15 despite not going through development hell.
They kinda overplayed their trap card after chain of memories
Let me tell you about the writing process of the Kingdom Hearts series. Nomura barges into the writers' room overly excited and goes "Wouldn't it be cool if (insert nonsense plot twist)?" Writers look at each other, incredulous. "Ok Nomura-san...and how do we tie that to the plot?" Nomura shrugs: "We'll make a flimsy side game and make shit up as we go along to explain it. Get writing!" Nomura barges out of the room. This happens on average 3 times a day.
That's pretty accurate
Started with your kh3 is a waste of effort video, the algorithm knows I eat these mega long video essays up
I feel like you speak perfectly to adults who grew attached to kingdom hearts at a young age but realized all the nuance with age 😂😂 I love watching these vids.
@@mindlessdrawing3336 What weirder is I think Sora DOES help build the raft, I remember him picking up wood for the raft.
@@Zinervawyrm Probably less "Getting past the censors" and more "Disney throwing its weight around". A pretty large amount of animated films from the bigger names in animation could squeeze a lot in and keep the G rating from as far back as the 50s all the way through the early 80s. Heck Don Bluth's/MGM's"Secret of Nimh" film had at least one Swear, some genuinely scary action, and gruesome character death's including: One character being crushed to death (Offscreen but you do see a hand sticking out), the villain dieing to a thrown knife in the back (with blood shown), and one character having his throat slashed open and clinging to life long enough to throw the aforementioned lethal knife. This is one of my favorite films from my childhood. ^^;
God I am so glad I graduated from Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy, that x Back Cover segment caused me serious psychic damage. Sure Final Fantasy has convoluted plots but you can usually jump into literally any of the games and you'll be told the whole story and given a real ending. I don't have to play an online-only mobile game to understand and enjoy FF13-2, no stupid "spinoff" bullshit dragging out the plot for 20 YEARS
How the HELL did Pete and Maleficent get into Disney Castle?
The Cornerstone of Light should’ve kept them out like it did in KH2.
Oops.
They got stronger using the power of plot convenience.
Three Fun Facts: The time machine Ven, Marluxia and Larxene used appears near the end of the first game, Dream Eaters are the reincarnated dead from Daybreak Town’s destruction and Xehanort is the reincarnation of your player avatar.

Excuse me? Actually?
@@zero123alpha6 Yep. It’s all true.
@@KaiKrimson56
Why bring up Naruto as an example with its same level piss poor worldbuilding.
Surprisingly enough ux might very well be the best story out of the series
33:45 - I thought the keyblade choosing Sora at Destiny Islands was partially retconned by him wielding it as a proxy of Ventus, since Sora was harbouring his heart; getting the keyblade back from Riku in Hollow Bastion is when he became worthy of it entirely on his own merits.
No, his Keyblade is Riku's, but the reason for his and Roxas' duel welding is because of Ventus
@@sora_keychain5510 actually saying the kingdom key is riku’s is still sort of wrong, it’s not inherently sora’s either though since it’s still the keyblade of the world of light(the importance of which has kind of diminished over time but whatever)

Watched your kh3 vid and was shocked at how consistently funny and entertaining a 5 hour video could be. Going through the rest of your uploads and they’re great. Idk if video essays are specifically you’re thing but you’re great at them!
Coming fresh off the last video, I came in waiting for the kh2 summary, but I've played it so many times that I didn't miss this video not having it. Everything else was phenomenaly done
Okay I know I'm super late in getting to this amazing video and the others that go along with it

"The man takes Sora back to his secret cave so he can Nort him"
Gold.
Kingdom Hearts is the reason why Nomura should never be put in charge of writing a story. There's a reason why KH1 has the best story in the series: Nomura wasn't responsible for writing it.
Well he still made a story interesting enough to keep people engaged for 10+ years
dude please create more content i genuinely cannot think of any video that’s made me laugh this much
Man, remember the good old days when KH1 and KH2 actually made sense and worked within their own continuity? Then everything in this video happened...

They even pop up in the same location in the Islands, but in different realms.
this channel voices every single frustrating thought i've ever had about kh spin offs over the years, and for that, i thank you lol.
This made me fucking laugh. I loved it. It just makes me realize even more how some parts didn´t make any sense at all, but whatever, plot has to continue and it´s kingdom hearts.
As somebody who has been catching up with the twewy lore the past few days, I can say that the most accurate part is Joshua calling himself omniscient

You loosing it from the Fragmentary Passage title made me loose my shit. an old joke but goddamn did the editing make it hilarious. Though that could also be because it's 1 am and I am tired.
34:49 I mean... that's literally the lyrics in Simple and Clean so, not surprising xD
Wait... wait... the plot in Union cross is the same as the... summons from FF13? "Maybe if we cause enough trouble, the Creator will come back and actually talk to us"...?
Wow. 3:31 I thought the guy included his real number
It's Square Enix support center in California
Oh my fucking god that would explain the weird presentation of plot stuff that the player would already know by that point.
@@Cross-chan Wait, you mean people don't play Terra's worlds in that order? That's the order I always did it. I guess I just was lucky then?
Don't forget that it doesn't make any sense for The Grid to be a sleeping world when it's based on a sequel to Tron even though there already was a Tron world in KH2 and Legacy didn't exist yet when they made that world. I know Space Paranoids is a copy of The Grid, but it's still dumb.
24:52 Wouldn't it make more sense if he removed the arm armour thingy, too?

I dunno, maybe I’m dumb too
Holy shit you are underrated! I didn't expect much laughs from a KH retrospective. Keep up the good work bro!
3:30 this man left the number for Square Enix customer support LMAO
XD
Where is this? I must know how little sense it all ends up making.
@@lukasruston8618 Alright, I just looked it up... There are at least five hours of footage. I'm gonna finish watching AskYourUncle chew KH3 out for five hours, then dive into this.
