Round The Twist was a massive world wide hit in the 1990's, including in the US where it was on Fox Kids. Besides the surrealism, it was unusual in that the three most important stars of the show were child actors. Children loved the way the show explored the world of children's imagination.

'Dunny' just means toilet ('loo' also means toilet. Apparently we have a lot of words for toilet). It's not particularly ubiquitous, but is reasonably common out in rural communities.

And now again at the end. Crap like the tooth thing alongside the guy winking in the painting thing (Imagine how much more disturbing that would be on a low Fidelity TV broadcast,) represent the general feel I got from the show from the two or three episodes I saw as a child. And the super catchy end song also stuck with me.

Over analysing Round the Twist is about to send me round the bend.
By the way, is that Barry Otto in the end?
One more, I wonder if the character Twist in Spaced was a homage to this series. I mean, it seems like it was rather successful in the UK, although the likes of Pegg would be a bit older than myself. I would have been 12 when this first aired, and yes, we all watched this with great anticipation here in OZ.

As someone who was born and raised in Australia, Round the twist is such a popular children's TV series in Australia and I grew up watching it when I was young. Also just to clarify, it was actually confirmed in 2019 that it started in 1990 not 1989. There is another Australian children's series I recommend you to watch and not many people have heard of this one and it's called The Gift. The whole series is on TH-cam but the first episode got removed due to copyright but the rest of the episodes are still posted, so here is episode 2 th-cam.com/video/nx8AC1Wg8lM/w-d-xo.html

If you ever want another kids show to react to, I would 100% recommend 'Jeopardy' (you can find the whole show on TH-cam if you look up 'Jeopardy CBBC'). It's like the Blair Witch Project meets the X-Files (and maybe Lost?) For kids. It is about as intense and full-on as a kids show could be with a genuinely terrifying and high stakes story. Every single episode ended in a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that would have you screaming at the tv.
A group of Scottish high school kids and their teacher, as part of a UFO group, go on a school trip into the remote Australian bush to look for aliens. And what follows is a genuine nightmare.
From struggling and almost dying in the Australian bush too many times to count, to genuinely terrifying alien abductions with horrific consequences, to mysterious government organisations hunting them down. There are so many extremely unnerving and terrifying things that happen. Even my Mum found the show scary.
And just to make it 100x scarier, the majority of the show is filmed in the style of the Blair Witch Project on camcorders. So you experience all the terrifying things the same way the characters do. And it has the same close up shots of terrified faces as in Blair Witch too.
I don't think a US channel could ever get away with a show like 'Jeopardy'.

Yes i said about this series like a while back. Series 2 & 3 first time i watching during the pandemic 2 years ago, holy crap the plot got more crazy, weird and scary at times. Certainly one of the lesser known Australian tv shows let alone a Aussie & British sci fi from 2002 (yes 20 years ago, omg i'm old).

    • @TheTardisDreamer

@@pokemaniac05 Ooh someone else who has seen the show! It's so underrated even though so many people go "oh yeah, that show freaked me out!" When it gets brought up.
Yeah, season 2 and 3 are where the show gets really crazy! The red-eye virus- stuff of nightmares! You could make an 18+ sci-fi horror movie out of that. And the plots like when most of the kids finally make it home (I think through an abduction?), only to find they're like ghosts who can't interact with their families. And to their families they've been missing I think for months and are all presumed dead so they're grieving them. The only way to fix things is to be sent back to Australia and the horror they just escaped from. Pretty dark stuff for a kids show!

Sadly tho copyright has made many of these older shows especially, unfortunately almost impossible to find nowadays unless some miracle happens. Paul Jennings the book author that the show is based on his short stories left after Series 2 after some well ended his relationship with Esben Storm (director, script consultant and writer) and so the tv writers had to make their own stories and Jennings went to other show that also based on his stories called Driven Crazy that also started a family like the Twists, but that show is impossible to find episodes on other than a excerpt on episode 1

Why does it has to be a bathroom ghost?, I mean, the painting was hidden there... but the writer of the episode put it there.
How about, the ghost shows up at a well and they have to go to the well to get water because the pumbling isn't working, a little more re-writing and boom, no more grown-ass dude watching kids going to the loo.
And I get it, maybe it's more apealing to kids a "bathroom ghost story" than a "well ghost story" and is a lot more creative, but still, its more creepy than scary... no wait I take that back, it's quite f scary too.
