      Thank you! My arm was burned but it's doing fine now.
      I think a hair dryer is probably better for this than the heat gun. I overheated a couple shingles and darkened them since it gets SO hot.

    Hi Shayra, You could add guttering underneath the overhanging shingles to offer protection for the future. This would also add more realism to the house.

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so welcome! I'm sure you can remove them. Some shingles pop right off bc the glue is so old. If it needs coaxing, just heat small sections at a time and scrape them off. It shouldn't take much effort. Keep heating if they're not coming off in whole pieces.

      I found small pieces glass in rectangle shape in local $2 shop. I am blown away by the resources available around the world that don't make it to Aotearoa (NZ). We have shamefully so little choice in anything, be it miniature dolls house stuff, shingles, anything! I'm restoring my 100+ yr old dolls house, doing what I can with what I can find. I find fabric to photoprint for wallpaper and tiles. I'm being really fussy to make it look like a real house. But loving it! Although I was considering ribbed card as tin roof, I could make tiles out of thin ice block sticks....

    Hi, I am still working on my first dollhouse. It is a definite fixer upper. The first thing, I tackled were the shingles. It gave me confidence to work on other parts of the dollhouse. Recently, I decided to remove some original shingles that looked out of place. They were surrounding the opening to the chimney! Who would put a flammable product around a chimney opening? 🤷‍♀️ 🔥 I decided to use my hairdryer to remove them. It worked like a charm. Your video reconfirmed, I did the right thing. Thank you! This week, I bought a second larger dollhouse, which will need shingle repair done too. Who buys another dollhouse when they haven’t even finished their first? 😆 It was a fabulous deal. I will keep the size of the shingles in mind, when I work on the next one. Thanks for the tip! 😊

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was the chimney itself shingled? Is that what you mean? Where I live, wooden shingles aren't legal. It's a fire prone area so roofs aren't supposed to be easily flammable. Many fires start when an ember lands on a roof. (Worse if ember lands on a plastic skylight. It melts and drops a fire blob Inside the home)
      We have some kind of composite shingles. In miniature, I've used sandpaper. Paint it and then cut into strips or shingles

    • @inhale3384
      @inhale3384 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, The upper part of the chimney was shingled. Sorry for the confusion. I don’t mine the roof being shingled. It was the shingles on the chimney I didn’t like.

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good instincts! Also, miniaturists buy another dollhouse when they haven't finished the first one. No shame! I like Bentley House Mini's approach. Work on a few projects at once so you can jump around once one project starts driving you nuts.

  • @brikhouse22

    I got a doll house kit when I was a kid for my bday and put it together myself but when it came to the shingles I did about half and gave up because they were so hard to do with my limited tools and knowledge, they kept splitting and was so annoying. I never finished it or played with it 😢.

      Damn shingles! I got a kit in 2020. A friend gave it to me. I assembled the whole thing, including the wood flooring and shingles, then got intimidated by decorating the inside. I sold the house for $25 and started making small kits and hand made accessories instead.

      @@queencityminis yeah it can often be overwhelming. And then you see it just sitting around taking up space. I think I held into mine into my twenties and then it got donated I think. It wasn't that great quality, the wood was so splintery. I had a bunch of furniture kits too that I put together that were just cheap looking with tabs.
