      @@ratatosk001 Mercs was great, very different.
      MW2 was very solemn, Mongolian bells and drums, fitting for the grim Clanner duty and outlook on life
      Suddenly MW2:Mercs goes this heavy metal route, because WAR IS GREAT, LET’S MAKE MONEY!

      @@dalesheen1816 Their understanding of total war was as something to be avoided. That is the whole point the Clan honor system and why the IS was so far behind the Clans. The failing of the great houses is that they spent 300 years fighting which achieved nothing at all. The success of the clan system is it allowed them to avoid that and keep moving forward.

  • @revolrz22

    The Clans also had no concept of how to wage a conventional war. The IS vs. the Clans is a fictional example of a dedicated combined arms force defeating a technically superior enemy.

    • @maxbrandt6
      @maxbrandt6 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It all came down to tactics, the Clans, for all their haughtiness and superiority forgot one simple truth Sun Zsu spoke: "All warfare is deception." The Battle Tukayyid proved this, it was a lesson hard learned.

    • @mam162
      @mam162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Seconded. The Clans were excellent individual warriors, but they were an absolutely terrible army. Their doctrine didn't allow for fundamental concepts like logistics and pitting strength against weakness (the only one who really understood those things was Ulric Kerensky, and he was constantly undermined by the Crusader Clans, illustrating lack of another vital military principle in unity of command). Moreover, in overall manpower the Clans were at a severe disadvantage, especially since only some of them were invading. Once the IS narrowed the technology gap and really started mobilizing their numbers, it was all over.

    • @spectre111
      @spectre111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mam162 I think what really doomed the Clan invasion was that the Wolves were trying to undermine the entire operation and then later were fighting to stop it. What the narrator in MW3 forgets to mention is that Task force Serpent had just as many Clan warriors as IS free birth.

    • @mam162
      @mam162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@spectre111 That's actually an excellent example of a fundamental Clan weakness: internal divisions. Unity of command is a core military principle in real life, and the Clans flat-out didn't have it. Each individual Clan was looking out primarily for number one rather than the good of the whole, and that's no way to run a military operation. In fact, if you read the the sourcebook for the Clan invasion trials, the Star Adder Khans (wisely) suggested that all the Clans invade as a collective, only to get laughed out of the Grand Council chamber. Also, Task Force Serpent did NOT have Clan warriors in the ranks. Bulldog did, but Serpent didn't because the Clans would have assumed a defeat against fellow trueborns wasn't a big deal. The Inner Sphere needed to conquer Huntress with an all-freeborn force to gain their respect. In Grave Covenant Victor Steiner-Davion specifically told Phelan Kell "we'll use their technology, but not their breeding" in the Huntress assault.

It is Still my most favorite game of All time, and it has been about 16 years since I've last played it. I never enjoyed MW2 nor MW4Merc, I also feel as if MWOnline isnt really a battle for skill, but a battle for them to get money out of you, which is a big turn down for me.

    I'm a Fan of both Mechwarrior and Gundam and I saw the older Gundam shows. Although I admit....I'm a Mechwarrior at Heart and a Gundam pilot second. With Mechwarrior there is a sense of urgency. A sense of dread. and besides.....You don't get briefings from an awesome guy like the MFB commander. Plus Dominc Paine was Always my fave. And to me....Allen Matilla was always invisioned with a beard and a flask of good whiskey in the cockpit ^-^

      The Warden/Crusader division is the only reason they were stopped weren't they as the Wardens secretly sabotaged the trial from memory? I always thought that was kind of dumb, how do you get that far into an invasion then they start disagreeing over what happens if they win.

      Not really, the Clans would be even more loathed, and the sheer population base was always going to catch up.
      By fighting by batchall the Clans were able to win a lot of civilians in the occupation zones (except for the Jags).
      Even winning at Tukkayid might not have meant anything - Earth is just one planet and the Clans would fight among themselves

    @Gallowell Yeah, and Aidan Pryde risked his life to make sure the Falcons retreat as safely as possible. Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat got really beat up. Steel Viper had the least casualties, and the Diamond Sharks got wiped out. Ghost Bear took Spanac (not enough Mechs to take Luk), and Wolf obviously won (well, they ignored Clan combat rules and beat the ComGuards at their own game with energy weapons, and they had Natasha and Phelan, two warriors who studied Inner Sphere tactics).

    @ElWolf70 Luthien was a place during the Clan invasion when both Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat were humiliated. Tukayyid was the proxy world where the ComGuards pushed back the six invading Clans (the terms were if Clans take the Tukayyid cities, they can take Terra. If ComStar won, then there would be a truce between the Inner Sphere and Clan). Ghost Bear won one, Jade Falcon had a draw, and Wolf won both. Anyone who has played MechWarrior 2 knows of the Battle of Tukayyid and the Refusal War.

    • @jamesperkins191
      @jamesperkins191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If The Clans won at Tukkayid, ComStar would give them Earth. And probably side with the Clans building their version of the Star League. But in that circumstance you might get more heir-to-heir marriages uniting interstellar nations.
      Victor marrying Omi Kurita versus ComStar and the Clans... That could be a great alt-universe fic

  • @nurabsol
    @nurabsol 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    The clans were hampered by arrogance and an adherence to standards of engagement such as only fighting other mechs one-on-one, rather than ganging up. Also, the IS was just way bigger with vastly more resources and population. The difference in military strength was great at the beginning, but not are great towards the end. Clan society hadn't advanced much since their founding, as evidenced by their use of star league-era tech.

    • @jamesperkins191
      @jamesperkins191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They pulled out a lot of mothballed stuff for the invasion, their best stuff was better than Star League.
      But, their manufacturing base was small. Too small ultimately.

    Frankly that depend, Gundam Work on "Jam every targeting system ever" particle. And that justify pretty much everything as long you put aside beamsaber and else.
    As for Mechwarrior, let's say that equally equipped tank (Bolo-like) would scrap their fragile leg very fast.

  • @weldonwin
    @weldonwin 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Jabob75 Because they were too busy getting geared up for a civil war as soon as the clans were gone. A couple of years after the Great Refusal, House Steiner has the Davion Archon assassinated and launches an attack on Davion forces across the Inner Sphere. As a result, the Star League collapses and its back to bussiness as usual, as it was before the Clan invasion, only now they have more powerful mechs and weapons to do it with

    Well from what i understand it they were the most powerful of the clans who invaded the inner sphere, thats why the SLDF picked them. The wolfs and jade falcon were crippled after the trial and the "Phelen Kell" issue, the only powerful crusader clan left was Smoke Jaguar
